If the shop instructions did not state to make sure you do not proceed on the call with a call center representative, then you did nothing wrong. Unless, the recording of that call has the person mentioning they were at a call center, then you would/should realize that you would not be meeting that person on-site. Did they say they would be the one to take you on a tour? Generally, the shop instructions may specifically state to be aware of that possibility or provide a sample of how the call center answers the line to give you a clue it would not be the leasing office. If none of those things occurred, as you state, I would email them asking them to make this right. And do not settle for $5.00, for the telephone call, because you did make a trip there in good faith.
