For hotel shops I've done with them, the largest amount on a folio was around $1,500. After two months, when I saw that I wasn't being issued a refund to my credit card, I reached out. To Coyle's credit, they continued to bug the client until I was paid. I want to say it required two follow-ups over a course of an additional month, but it did get reversed. While that may seem like common courtesy, it made me want to do additional shops for Coyle.
It's funny because the other small hotel chains, I've had no issue. But the luxury hotel client was the one that wasn't paying up.
Sorry, editing to add one more part. For the large reimbursement/payment/bonused shops, from my experience, with all of these types of shops and MSC I worked with, I believe they are very cognizant of this, especially with large amounts coming out of your pocket. They want to make sure you succeed. Everyone loses a lot of time, effort, and money on a rejected shop like this.
