Customer Impact...

Customer Impact lost their big restaurant, got email telling they won't use Mystery shopping any longer...I'll miss eating there.

Hint at what the "big restaurant" is? Or type of food? They only have a few local chain restaurants near me.

And the steakhouse and Hawaiian place don't show up much anymore.

Might be the result of them using those restaurants as 'bait' to get the undesirable shops assigned....rather than just using the best shoppers.
I think the steakhouse might be quarterly... just did one two months ago after not seeing them for like six months.
I have done the BBQ for years, along with a sandwich shop without a problem. I do think many are dropping their shopping programs due to people ordering in. The last BBQ I did for dinner, restaurant was half full and it has good food. I don't believe this company use's poor shoppers, they are very loyal, they've been by my side for years.

Their main chain restaurant with the take out?
Interesting. I have not seen those posted in a while. They have a local small restaurant group around here we have visited. I don't see much else with restaurants.
In my area they lost a BBQ place in August or maybe September. They sent an email saying the main company had decided to discontinue the program. I loved those take out jobs when I could get them.
They lost their award-winning scheduler, Barbry Booth (voted by forum members Scheduler of the Year the last year we selected one). They've lost several of their longtime major dining clients. One I particularly loved was picked up by ACL, and, while it is still mystery-shopped and available, no more shopper fee. The basic shop requirements and reimbursement are the same, but, in addition to removing the shopper fee, ACL has added the requirement for a recorded pre-visit phone call, on-site photos, and a longer, more repetitive report. Just not worth it to me anymore. The jobs sit on the ACL for a while with multiple begging emails from the ACL scheduler even though they were wildly popular and scheduled quickly when CI had them.
I think I've seen her name with another company now?

I have heard she is scheduling for Sentry now.
When I was a brand new mystery shopper, I did the steak house for them. I made a rookie mistake( I posted my review to Yelp). The owner of the company called me and screamed at me. I was almost crying. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He screamed at me like I just totaled his brand new luxury vehicle. I mean, seriously. I wonder if them losing the client has anything to do with the owner.
Over the past couple of years they have gone to some light merchandising gigs (like brochure replacement visits), but they have been doing restaurants for a long time. I did my first high-end restaurant shop (reimbursed $225 I think) for them back in 2009. Before that I did some grocery store shops with them and some fast casual shops. I have done nearly 100 shops for them and the majority of them were restaurants.

They were one of my first companies to work for and I only did restaurants, one upscale, the BBQ and a great sandwich shop I still do. I now see the change as Jas mentions, but I don't do merchandising, so things are slim for me.

I won't do their merchandising gigs. They don't pay enough. Real merchandising companies pay much better.
LOL, JAS! My neighbor just made $600 with them in one day. Granted, it was a long day -- 8 shops. All merchandising gigs with planograms.

Unfortunately, my brain doesn't "do" planograms. They never, ever, look like they are supposed to look, to me. Some disconnect there -- maybe too many dead brain cells.

How much driving was that and were there bonuses involved? You have often said that there are very few retail stores around you and you often drove 300 or more miles in a day (which explains why your cars break down). I don't drive more than 20 miles to do anything. That's why my 2013 car has less than 50,000 miles on it and looks brand new, never have had to do more maintenance than buying tires once and front brakes once, and of course oil changes (all shops). I'll probably be driving this car until 2025, and with low miles and pristine condition I should be able to get a good resale value. It takes a lot of $600 days to buy a new car.

Edited for typing on my phone earlier.

I've never had anything other than merchandising assignments in my area. In my whole state, there's 2 restaurants and 70+ merchandising assignments.

We don't all have that luxury. I live in a smallish town right on the coast so I only have 3 directions of travel available. I can go north 60 miles to a decent size city, south 60 miles to a big city, or west to BFE.

I know, I know. Those small towns have other benefits, especially coastal areas where it's just so darned pretty! However, I would probably do more phone and internet shops if I lived in a small town without a lot of retail or other businesses that get shopped. I do a few right now where I can make $60-$150 without ever leaving home that day. But that's not every day. And, going 120 miles round trip isn't quite the same thing. If I were doing that, though, I would probably pick up a hotel shop in my destination city overnight so that I could shop for two days instead of just one.

And when someone mentions that they or someone they know made $600 in a day and don't explain how many different towns they had to visit and how many miles they drove to do that, it's misleading. Gas and wear and tear on a vehicle need to be put into the equation so that some newbie shopper or merchandiser understands the cost of doing business (not to mention paying taxes). Sure, plenty of forum members know that ceasesmith lives in a very rural place where animals outnumber people and it takes a LOT of driving (sometimes to other states) to make any money, but not everyone knows that.
