Thanks, it is not obvious on the website, you have to edit the information. I would have been one that would have been upset by the deduction becasue I feel we are already cheated for the work we do.

I like paypal better than direct deposit. I never noticed the $1.00 paypal deduction until it was brought up here.

They sent emails about it sme time ago, so we could change to direct deposit.

They haven't started charging it yet. I don't think they will charge until the payments made in November.

What happens when the MSC only accepts paypal? Not everybody offers DD. I prefer DD.

Then you have to either use Paypal or don't shop with that company. I stopped using Paypal for quite some time and just started again. Until then, I could not shop with companies that only pay via Paypal.

I hope no other company gets the hint and starts charging for Paypal. I don't get to work with this company much, but they do have assignments in my area. I made a note to myself where I keep their information to switch to direct deposit as soon as I get a chance.

They are simply passing on a cost of doing business to you, the shopper.

EPMS posted that they will only pay with Dierect Deposit. I am so glad. I have a checke that was supposed to be sent on the 22nd but still note here. And they want their shops in on time.

Yes, during October, EPMS is supposed to be sending out emails asking us to supply our direct deposit information. I'm happy about the change. DD is much more secure than paper checks.

Off topic of the thread title, but regarding EPMS payment, direct deposit is a nice improvement. Now if they would only do something about their reports. As is, they're almost painful.

That $1 to PayPal is really significant. If your $8 shop needs $1 in gas, and PayPal gets another buck, you've just lost 25% of your fee. Those who stoop to keep shop fees low by accepting $4 jobs will lose 25% or more.
Don't pass the fees to the workers. Add it to the client's charge or split the difference with them.
I hope this results in shoppers holding back their acceptances until the MSC is forced to raise the fee.

Samwise, Do you understand that this is only one MSC passing along the fee? It is not contagious at this time. A good business person will add this in as an additional cost of business and will only take higher paying shops. I am glad some people take sub standard paying shops. They can only subsidise the MSCs for only so long, then they quit shopping and the MSCs have to increase their rates. Simple supply and demand...I have never seen a business that performs work for below cost last very long.

I have not yet done any work for second to none because their pay is too low for the amount of work involved. If I ever do work for them I will make sure I am signed up for Direct Deposit so that I don't lose another $1.00 from the already low fees.

Is this even legal. . . does Paypal charge a processing fee to Second-to-None when they pay us? If not, maybe this should be brought to the attention of someone at a higher level. For the record, Second-to-None already pays some of the lowest fees to us. . . why would they risk losing good shoppers for $1.

I've noticed a few companies now charging for Pay Pal. Can't remember which ones (sorry) but will make note again when I see it.

I haven't yet shopped for second-to-none because a $7 fee with only a $1 reimbursement is not worth my time; and when I look at the form they want some commentary. I have done $7 shops but they just have yes/no type questions so the reporting is real quick. I will do these if I am in the area or can bunch some together.

According to the Paypal website it is, "Free to send and receive when the money comes from PayPal balance or bank account.
Otherwise- When the money comes from a debit or credit card or PayPal Credit
(the sender decides who pays this fee)." This is not the only company that charges the receiver.

I could be wrong, but I suspect if they ONLY paid by Paypal and the charged a fee for payment it could be contested as not full payment as advertised. But in the case of all of the companies I am aware of, there is at least one payment method where you will be paid in full what is due, so I suspect there is nothing illegal about passing on the 'convenience fee' of sending payment via Paypal. When I got back into mystery shopping there were a number of folks who were unhappy with receiving checks as they did not have bank accounts. They found it necessary to frequent check cashing services and of course lost a fair amount of their fee in that process.

It sure seems like the this MSC is clueless. It costs approximately $7.00 to issue a check and mail it. It sure feels like they are shooting themselves in the foot for offering to charge for not getting a check. Here, in Washington State, we have a law that prohibits payments from incuring fees to transact. So this would be automatically be void for any shops that were accomplished in this state.

What I love is that I can have Direct Deposit without having a bank account. I now use a Walmart Money Card and love it. You cannot send an e-check from it but otherwise pretty much the same as a bank account - except you cannot spend more than what you have. I don't think I'll ever use a bank account again.

There is no one to talk to really. Sign into your account there and edit your payment info.

I switched to Direct Deposit and when I opened my checking account page there was the money the morning of the 15th - no waiting for 3 days for a transfer from PayPal.

Same here. There was no email advising of payment, but as stated, it was in my account on 10-15.

Direct deposit is my preferred method of payment, followed by PayPal.

Paypal is free...if all MSC's don't charge the 1.00 why should 2nd 2 none. I think it's just another way for them to jip the shopper and act like they have a reason. Another shopper makes a good point, saying they are saving $$ by not sending checks, so why not pass some of the $ on to us....cheap shot, glad I said by to them long ago. Funny how these companies package things to make themselves look pretty.

It is not free if the company uses a credit card to deposit money. Not always but on occasion it does subtract a fee to the "buyer". That is why many stopped accepting shops for a high class shop for a dinner shop around last year.
