Grassroots - Now closed

I see nothing. I did notice that the page now says to select a job carefully as you are limited to one or something to that effect.

If they are having software issues, I wish they would just state that on their website, and in the cancellation e-mail.
My shop wasn't until the end of April.

I am also worried about them. As my most recent shop is also not listed under my "Previous Observations" and I received an email that a future shop I have with them was "canceled" with no explanation. Furthermore there are no future shops listed at all!
Mine shop was scheduled for yesterday (3/31). I thought it was odd they didn't call me and just sent an email. I sent them an email and no response so far. Plus, I just tried calling them. No answer and when it gets to voice mail, "This mailbox is full" prompt.

hmmm
Maybe this is their idea of an April Fool's joke? I hope they offer some type of explanation soon. I recently did an expensive shop for them and would like to get paid.
It sounds like I shopped them on the last day before something happened. Glad it was not the prior month when I had about $150 outstanding for non gift card shops that they loaded on my Visa reload pay card like clockwork.

Ok, now I am starting to get concerned. I'm only $40 outstanding now and without my next gift card.
If you listen to their voicemail, it sounds like they are out of business (they said it was beyond their control) Owed me a LOT of money and giftcards.
Yep. Call them at 800-777-3882 and listen to their message. They have "ceased operations." Wow.
What?! Ugh. Wonder what the heck happened.

I am so, so sorry to all of you who lost money on this. I know it happens and it's the cost of doing business for an IC, but it still sucks. sad smiley

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
Hi All,

I also had a shop scheduled at a famous restaurant tomorrow. I called them and the message states. "Due to unforeseen circumstances they have closed down the business." I was shocked! I hope this is an April Fools joke, but it doesn't sound like it is. This is so sad!
I don't understand why people would work for gift cards as payment. Or did they send out the gift cards ahead of performing the shop? If that is the case, you would not be out any money or your time.
I only perform dining shops for reimbursement plus a shopper fee. The shopper fee many not be very high but it still counts as a profit.
I enjoy taking my family to this restaurant. The food is consistently good, and portion size is large. Plus, it's located in a large mall where I can schedule 5-10 other shops and have a profitable day.

To each their own, I suppose.
So sorry to read all this about Grass Roots. My impression of them was that of a solid company. Sorry to all who are owed money and gift cards. I wonder what happened to cause such an abrupt closure.

Yes, I am disappointed. I enjoyed working for them, although I didn't care for the Visa reloadable card on the Mickey shops. I thought they were a dependable company, and feel that they show give us some type of explanation, or at least reassurance that we will be paid.
I had trouble viewing my shops at the closest location to my house months ago. I could see all the other shops. They could not figure out where the problem was and when I asked if I could speak with IT they indicated there was no such department. Perhaps that was a sign but fortuanately it prevented me from doing any jobs because I had to call them each time and write down all the available jobs as they read them off to me...a pita.
Those of you awaiting payment in gift card or cash form might still recieve it. Do not give up hope. Companies that go out of business, if that is what happened, do often have enough money to pay their bills or part of them. And whether they pay in gift cards or cash should not matter as long as the restaurant did not go out of business.
May be that's why another MS company has been doing shops trying to get the account fro the dessert restaurant.
I always love that "circumstances beyond our control" line of BS. What they really mean is, "We ran our business into the ground because we are a bunch of incompetent boobs."
May be it has something to do with this:

I am unsure about what is going on because usually there are signs. This seems to be a multimillion company, they paid monthly like clockwork, etc.

However, they posted this on the website:
Grass Roots America has ceased operations as of March 31, 2015. If you have any questions, please call (305) 674-7677 and leave us a detailed message and we will do our best to respond to your inquiry as soon as practicable.

Perhaps only the mystery shopping division in Florida has ceased operations. I have one outstanding payment. If I don't receive payment in the expected time frame, I'll be contacting their New York office.

Most of us would not do that. I shopped for them before they were GrassRoots when they were Mystery Guest. I never did a shop for a gift card. Never have. Never will.
All the numbers and extensions in the NYC office seem to be working fine and they just hired the new CEO, new leadership. They appeared to have ceased operations in Orlando and Miami.
The company was always very nice to me. I was always paid promptly and with the exception of the one IT problem I had it seemed to be very well run from a shoppers point of view. They even went out of their way for me one time when one of the dessert restaurant employees emptied out my gift card by way of a huge tip. I did not find out until the next time months later when I tried to use the card I thought had around $30 on it and found it was empty. The msc reimbursed me with a new gift card. There are many reasons a company might go out of business. Hopefully they will send all the shoppers some sort of explanation or acknowledgement in the next few days. The rank and file staff may be just as shocked as we are.
