As far as I know, they have restaurant shops. But, has anyone done their seminar evaluations? I've received a few solicitations and am hoping to hear feedback. Doesn't sound so great on paper, but maybe in practice. . .

How do you like them overall?

I truly like doing work with this company. I, too, have received these seminar evaluation offers, but am wondering what to expect much like you. I find their restaurant evaluation specifications to be very fair and to the point unlike others. I've always gotten prompt payment for my work and view this to be a favorite of mine. Suppose I should give one of the seminars a try and will let all of you know the outcome. So, far there isn't one real close to me, but I don't mind traveling periodically when I'm able to combine other shops in the same vicinity.
I enjoyed working with them. The seminars were easy because the presenter are presenting the same information. I am simply waiting for the check. I would work for them anytime.
Got my first check on Friday for the November seminars! I did 5 seminars in Dec. for $25 a pop. They don't give you much information, but their shops were straightfoward and they have paid so far. They are good with me.
I just completed one of their restaurant report and I hate the format. The food section was broken down by presentation, taste and temperature, for each item. That's three separate narrative sections. So, after you list and write each food item three different times, the bottom asked for details. WHAT is left to detail, if I have already broken it down three different times with full narratives?

I know, that is a PITA. I use those three separate narrative sections more to do a quick and dirty description, not write real narrative. That gets me through them quickly so I can get to the narrative for an actual discussion of the meal as presented. Their whole report, however, is time consuming and does not feel as though it flows well. "Did _____ happen in under _____?" Followed by exact time for the event seems frivolous. Just ask me "How long was it in minutes and seconds for _____?"

Overall, though, I like their shops and can live with their reports, but I don't go out of my way for most of them because their stated pay cycle is very long and they keep to their pay cycle. I'm not real fond of being out of pocket several hundred bucks for 10 to 12 weeks.
Thanks, Flash. Good to know someone else feels the same way about their report format. I like the restaurants they offer, but there are times I'm grinding my teeth with them. I shope 4 star hotels, so detailed narrative writing is not a problem for me. However, after I wrote copious amount under each question, why is there a "detail" section on the bottom. Do one or the other, not both!

I will no longer do their $35 or less lunches. It's the same long, repetitive report - just not worth it. I like some of their non-restaurant shops.

I have two reports coming up and I will try your "quick and dirty" method for the food section. It's still a PITA! The payment schedule does not bother me, since they do pay eventually.

I suspect you treat the narratives like I am tempted to do--like a real narrative. I fight that urge, knowing that I will get to do the real descriptive narrative later.

I did get a funny note from one of their editors last year on a non-restaurant report where there had been little pockets of narrative all through the section and was a bigger narrative at the section end. I duly narrated my way through and groaned to do the final narrative which was essentially a pulling together of everything previous. The editor suggested that when I had said it all already, perhaps I should just put in the final narrative "Nothing to add."
Flash -- Interesting. Wonder if the next editor and client would accept a "nothing to add" in the narrative section.
Flash, was that for the insurance or the gym? I will take your advice and see how it goes. I have several restaurants in May.
