Mystery Shopping Companies

Never ever pay or give credit card info to strangers, people on the street or shopping companies that want to charge you to join.

A good MSC makes their money by facilitating your work. Bad ones, ...can go stick it up their nose. They take advantage of the overly humble and simple.

Bare International are scamers!!!!! They never paid us for 5 shops we did. Kept coming up with excuses that we violated the guidelines. Do NOT accept any assignments for them. SCam Scam Scam !!!

I've also filed a complain with BBB, but does anyone know how to complain too SASSIE ? Or what else can I do about it? I want this company shut down so nobody else gets scammed.
Thank you
Flash, I just want to make sure everyone is aware that Bare International are not a legit company. And why are you sitting there watching my posts and getting upset over them?
I saw there was activity since my last visit and the posts were mostly yours. And when you just start bashing a perfectly legitimate company and obviously your only point in being here is to bad mouth them, you look less than legitimate yourself.
I'm just trying to stop people from getting ripped off Flash. I don't want anyone else to get ripped off like I did. That's all!
Those are strong words and out of line. Most of the people here have had a shop invalidated at one time or another and not been paid because we did not follow the guidelines per our contract. Some times there are issues which can be ambiguous, but the company is reasonable and will work with the shopper to salvage a shop if it is possible. I am not an "employee" of Bare, but I am a shopper who has completed shops for them over four years. Actually I made an error on a shop for them by asking for the wrong service. It was nobody's fault but my own. There were a specific number of times each service could be shopped every month. My scheduler actually checked to find out if there was some way she could use the shop and if they had not already met their quota for the month would have approved it and gotten me paid. Bare pays on time, pays the correct amount and is one of the more accessible companies I have ever worked with.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
You seem to be one of the few that was't paid. Most find Bare Int'l a good solid company, and have never had your experience, so, I suggest you look
into your work, and find your answer as to why they haven't paid you for 5 jobs, yes, anyone can make a mistake on "1" report, but 5 doesn't give you
any credibility in my book. Give up your fight, and move on....to perhaps,
a different profession.

Live consciously....

I've had nothing but good experiences with Bare .... and always been paid on time, which is a BIG deal to me.
Slamming Bare is an error. They are one of the most legitmate companies out there. Compare a Bare to a CORI and tellme then what is really happening. I have done over 200 shops for Bare with Jeff who is one of their project managers. I work for a lot of msc and this one is the absolute best. If you have a problem, they will talk to you instead of giving you a one finger salute. Stop slamming them as you are probably at fault here.
When I first started MSing in 2007, the first shop that I did for BARE was a bar integrity shop, and I kinda messed it up with regard to guidelines. After the scheduler explained my error, I understood that BARE couldn't use my report for their client due to my error. Hence, I chalked the entire experience as just that: an experience.

Reading some posts slamming the company as a scam is a bit much. I've since done more shops for BARE and a host of other companies following my error. And yes, I've been compensated by the company as well both via check and Paypal. They pay on a 75-90 day schedule, FYI.
Hi, I'm new here but have been a shopper for 10 years. One of the first companies I shopped for was Shop N Chek, now known as Market Force. They are great to work with and pay through direct deposit between the 12 - 14 of the month. I highly recommend signing up with them. You can self-assign on their website, which I really like.
Good luck all!
After reading most of the posts here, it appears some of the posters are confused about a couple of issues and I would like to add my two cents. A lot has changed in the 32 years that I have been MS.
1. You are held responsible for knowing your own working status with the IRS, unless you make them aware. I never like bringing a red flag upon myself, therefore extra caution with the MSC's, how they handle my information and account is vital to me.
2. 99% of MSC's consider you an IC, therefore you will need to proceed as such! This means working and processing everything in this vein.
3. If you cannot find information regarding the "Legal Status" and "Ability to Suit", do not work for the company until you satisfy these two!
4. There are plenty of persons out there with the info contained in #3 and if you are not computer research savvy, reach out to them for help, before taking your first job with them.
5. Lots of good information is being placed in these posts. Make it a daily part of your activities to spend time reading and absorbing.

Remember each day to "help someone, laugh and learn something new!"
Who would have guessed there was this many mystery shopping companies out there and they cover just about everything! I do belong to several different ones but I am a rural area of Georgia and do travel a lot to cover a variety of shops. It is wonderful to have extra income and know you are helping companies that you like to shop at at the same time.

Good luck everyone.
Try checking JobSlinger (free). It will tell you which companies have shops in your area and you can sign up with those companies.
NEVER, NEVER take anything that requires deposit checks or you having to pay ahead of time. I've mystery shopped for 5 years and have made thousands during that time. I ran into one shady company which I turned over to Wells Fargo's fraud unit (they wanted me to deposit a check then buy something).

The check they sent was from a real account but it was stollen from a Wells Fargo customer. I took it directly to the bank and notified the bank representatives along with the email address of the correspondent.

A newbie's learning-curve question here.
Q: What's the difference between declining a job and not accepting a job?

I know this is an old post, but it is VERY wrong! The IRS requires that ALL income be reported, even if you did not receive a 1099.
Ding ding ding, jackpot! This is exactly why I came back to MSF.com smiling smiley I have been doing shops all month with no car and hardly any money. I have about $400 in fees plus about $100-150 in reimbursements coming in next month. Can't wait. Plus taxes, I'll be shopping for a car and signing up for oil changes, brake checks, and gas station/ID compliance shops right away. I'm signed up to about 50 sites right now. Only 5-10 have anything I can do. Maybe 5 more once I get a car. I was going to start saving for the baby on the way, but I just might make this a full time job. I am after all averaging about $40-50 a day. $90 on a good day when I have someone to lend me their car.

It's lists like these that make mystery shopping as a profession possible.
Just a question or two or three! (LOL)

Jacob do you know...

... how often the "Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies" is Updated at the bottom of the page? (I ran into 404's, broken images on the sign up page, etc.)

Also - is the list that is on PAGE ONE of *this* thread still correct? Is it updated or outdated? (I ask because there were some that I checked from the Sassie shop list that were 404 errors now)

And.. this may cause some grumbling, but, is there any way that the 14 pages of comments can be removed and there can be JUST a list of companies? Maybe update the thread, close off comments?

If it needs to be done, and anyone wants to help collaborate on an updated list of companies with their website, I'll get together with any volunteers and we'll give it a shot. I just checked my spreadsheet and I'm signed up with 129 companies - I thought it was more! I've already gone through the list at the bottom of the forum pages.

JacobJ,

Regarding the list of mystery shopping companies, are they all legit companies that you or someone has worked for? Sorry I'm new to this and would love to get started in the right direction. Thanks again for the forum, it is an amazing resource for someone like me.

When you sign up for these companies, you sign up as an independent contractor. What this means is that you are in business for yourself and these companies pay you by job to do a job. What you get in return is
(1) mileage taken off taxes
(2) expenses such as ink, office supplies, etc are tax deductible,
(3) you do have to claim any pay as income,
(4) however, anything that you spend (reimbursements) are considered expenses.
(5) any equipment purchased specifically for mystery shopping can be deducted on equipment deductiobs.

So you take the whole of what is paid, subtract the expenses and many times you get a break of end of the year taxes because you are a business person.

I have a personal CPA, and not a 'tax' company to do my taxes. You will complete a long form, a Schedule C, and any equipment etc can be deducted on a declining usage form. You need someone who is very knowledgeable in the areas to complete your taxes where you do not get audited.

Hope this helps as the mystery companies do not pay for maintenance on your vehicle or any equipment.

I'd just like to add that there are hundreds of brake inspection and oil change shops. Atleast in my area alone, there are. Plus miscellaneous other auto shops if you have a newer vehicle by a certain maker. There are even occasional tire shops that pop up. I used to do EZ Lube? when I first started, 5 years ago,I love their service. The last time I saw them on a job board (which was in 2010) they changed things up. There was pay, not just reimbursement, but it was an undercover, recorded shop. I don't see enough shops like that to go out and buy special equipment.
