Economy's Affect on Shops: More Work for Less Pay

Have you noticed that there are less shops and there is less money for those shops, yet higher quality work is expected? I have noticed this. Wonder what everyone else's thoughts are.

The pay rate for some shops is back down to the level of where it was in 1994, A truck stop shop was only $7 back then too. Unfortunately some companies pulled these antics even before the economy had a problem.

Yes. I find it less than amusing to go back through my records and see shops that have gone down in fee every year for the identical shop and survey. That certainly was not due to the economy, though you could imagine, perhaps, that the additional 8 1/3% fee drop for 2009 might be related to the economy. On the other hand, the companies with whom I work most frequently have at least held their fees steady and some have increased reimbursements to keep pace with expenses over the same time period. With the glut of shoppers and the disappearance of former clients due to bankruptcy or economic issues, there are rarely bonuses any more.
Well, there may be less shops but I am finding some good bonused ones....pizza and coffee shops. Also, SI had a great shop...........check to see if convenience store was open late night.......no purchase and $20.02 fee. The audit form was 3 questions.........took less than a minute to input. Also, the baby/toy store was easy shop w/decent fees. So I actually am doing less shops but getting more pay.

I love STN, and I would do those in a second if they had them here, but mostly I do hotel travel desks and game stores for them (the latter for my son, otherwise I would skip it...)The travel desks pay well. But not as well as the hard to reach staff at unless they contact you 60 day payer doing the EXACT same questionaire for the same company at the same places! We have that store, but no late night shops...Bummer.

It is Service Intelligence not STN. But I am getting bonused coffee shops for STN.
Can't believe how Corp Research is bonusing the pizza shops PLUS they are allowing takeout on some of them........they need to all be done by Friday.

I want in on those convenience store shops! They aren't around here.

I am noticing the fees going down, even if just by a dollar or two. It all adds up.
I have had quite good success finding more jobs for higher pay. I don't seem to have a problem getting mileage money but I have not seen many bonuses. I've been MSing for about 3 years and have finally gotten into enough companies that I work for 2-five hour days per week and average about $500 a month. I won't get wealthy but it's about what I need.
