ICCDS and I-9

I have recently started shopping and have enjoyed working with several companies.
I just received an email from the 'receptionist' at ICCDS where I completed a job. He states that he needs an I-9 and a copy of my drivers license in order to process my payment.
No other company has needed an 1-9 for me to get paid.
Does anyone know if this is an acceptable request? Should I be wary?

The receptionist probably emailed you because you didn't provide this when you signed up. They are reputable and I personally have not had any issues with them.
Yes, I have done several shops for ICCDS. However, I did not complete my I-9 until I was assigned my first shop. It is needed for IRS purposes, even though you might not make over $599.00 or $699.00 a year for that company. I have also worked for shopping companies that require a copy of your driver's liscense. It is good to check through this thread first though regarding a company that you never have worked for, because there are so many scams out there now.

If you are registered with a company and they ask for information, you can bet they need it, even demographic information. The other part of that is, "You can be sure theyy won't share this with anyone." Not even their mothers.
Creole, unfortunately the information DOES get shared from time to time, whether it was intentionally or not. There have been MSPs that have had their computers hacked, equipment stolen and equipment confiscated and sold at auction. There have been employees of MSPs or scheduling companies who have had privileged information that have left and taken that with them for whatever purposes. And there is little doubt in my mind, though absolutely no proof, that one outfit that collects shopper information is responsible either directly or indirectly for providing shopper contact information for scams.

In this day and age I don't see that there is much way of avoiding this kind of "sharing". We can only hope that companies will handle our information with care and confidentiality, yet when I contacted one about registration problems with their website and mentioned in passing being uncomfortable with putting a social security number on their unsecured website, their reaction was, "We've never had any problem with that." Of course THEY wouldn't, only the shopper who was compromised by an unsecure website would possibly have a problem.

Yet we DO need to provide the information to these potential employers if we intend to work.
