NYC flooded with chains

Something on the lighter side:

I heard this report on National Public Radio today. Dunkin Donuts has the most stores of any chain in NYC, 341. Next comes Subway, McDonald's and Starbucks.

I wonder how many shoppers there are. smiling smiley

Oh, they are quite a few shoppers out there, Sneakers.

I can't believe after the petition Jacob sent about the $5.00 shops that some NY shoppers signed up for. . . . .what else??? $5.00 shops for the pharmacy chain, CXS.

I simply couldn't believe that within an hour's time most of them were taken because they were self assign shops.

What does that say about us????
Not as ridiculous as they sound. They're very fast, and CVS's are close together. The report is only 3 or 4 Q's, no receipt, no narratives. It's really just a fast survey of each store to find an ad. So it's not as ridiculous as doing those $4 gas shops. I'm doing 4 just on the way home from work tomorrow., not even out of my way. If you live in the city, you can knock them off like fish in a barrel, and make $150/day, while stopping at your other shops between.

What petition, email?

My link didn't show up properly.

In case you can't access the article:

"The Center for Urban Future has compiled what they say is the first-ever ranking of national retailers that have the most stores in New York City.... "No surprises here; the Mallification of New York is proceeding apace, on a road paved with Mom and Pop skulls. 32 retailers have 50 or more stores throughout the city, and 91 retailers have more than 10 outlets here..."

Can't find it now, but Jacob sent out a petition email to boycott $5.00 shops. This was forwarded to the MS companies and they responded negatively, naturally.

I didn't read all the rhetoric but apparently they were all twisted about it.

I understand that some of these shops are quick BUT that's if it's convenient to your location. The time to DCR = Drive, Conduct, & Report may well not be worth that WHOPPING $5.00!

Certainly not worth taking time away from my family to run around town evaluating signage at my local pharmacy even if it there quite a few. It may work for some but not all.
I'm glad they're twisted up about the petition. Can't say who the MS co is, but it's a big scheduling co, and not the client's usual MSP.

The great majority of $5 shops would be sinful. Where is the news about them being upset? Another forum? Where was J when the $4 gas shop was invented?

BTW--there are still about 15 of these available, so I don't think anyone is going too far out of their way to do them. In the city there's CVS on almost every block. And if the ad isn't there, you still get paid.
Sneakers, Just received another email. Jacob has a newsletter that I signed up with before I found out about this forum.

PLEASE join the boycott of $5 mystery shopping assignments.

I don't see a place in the first URL to leave my name. I also don't see 627 names there, only about 75. Was that page copied onto an email? Why don't we ask J what was done exactly?

This is well-meaning, but there are tens of thousands of shoppers out there. One large company alone claims to have 20,000 shoppers. Any little boycott is a drop in the ocean.

Sneakers,

I just checked it and had no problem. HMMMM, maybe you need to update on your browser?!
Firefox sends updates automatically, every few weeks, actually. I went to the second page and found more of the article, but I still don't see the boycott list.

I agree with John Swinburn. That's why I just did 4 of those CVS shops, and might not come upon those exact circumstances again.

I emailed J and asked him to post the details here.
