I'm embarassed to ask, but: What does it mean to "Decline" a visit?

I've been MSing for more than five years. Some companies have an "accept" or "decline" option. If I don't "accept" a shop I just ignore it, but I've never 'Declined' a shop.

What does it mean to Decline a shop as far as the MS is concerned, and why do they have that option?

TIA - I feel kind of silly asking this question!!

Based on the wording it sounds like GFK. As far as I know it has no adverse impact. If you leave a job you will continue to get the new shops in your area e-mail over and over. The only positive I've found with their website is the option to decline and to even opt out of certain types of shops. Since I utilize both and continue to work with them it appears the options are offered without prejudice.

BTW, nothing to be embarrassed about. As far as I know only GFK and Market Force offer itsmiling smiley

ICCDS also has a "decline." I never do it. If I don't want to accept I back out instead of clicking decline. I don't know whether it's negative to click decline but I just don't do it.
Hi, thanks. No, not GFK or ICCDS - I have several companies who have this option. Just curious why you would decline a shop rather than either accepting or ignoring. Thanks!!
So does Jancyn. I just ignore it but I have the impression that in one company, it is to your benefit to decline if you do not want to accept it, but in some, it is meaningless. I don't know which one.
I think it is more in Prophet sites, but I cannot determine the benefit to decline a shop. Glad to know I am not alone!!!
The main benefit of declining is that you won't see the shop again. So lets say that you are ineligible for the shop because a relative works there. Your job board has 150 posts you are ineligible for. You decline, you should have those posts disappear.

That being said, I rarely decline a job because the usual reason for not accepting is that it is not paying enough for what is expected. If I decline, I have to assume I will not be eligible if they need to bonus it because everyone else found it paid too little as well.
Flash, you are always so wise. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge. You are the best!

What annoys me to no end is that I "permanently decline" -- several times a week! -- all shops for a major FF chain on MarketForce's board ... and they reappear a few days later. Since I prefer not to shop this FF chain, it would be nice to make these listings disappear permanently and make my job search a little less cumbersome; unfortunately they only disappear for a few days.
Some systems such as Prophet actually like you to accept or decline because it shows you are reading their emails. This is good if you don't do many shops for the comapany as it shows you are still an active participant.
