Received an email from a scheduler full of the usual pile of hooey...."need to get this done ASAP", etc.
The offer was for one of the legendary "hero citations", and nothing more. Well, as we all know, imaginary awards don't pay the bills. It was for a shop I know well, at a location that is just down the street from my main job, so I figure it's worth a chance for some negotiation.
I sent the scheduler an offer stating I'd forgo the hero citation in exchange for the bonus amount I received for the same location a few months ago.
Within 3 minutes, I received a response stating "Done! Thanks!", and a shop assignment notification with the bonused amount. You could knock me over with a feather.
Lesson: Sometimes it pays to send that shot-in-the-dark email.
