Researching the legitimacy of a company

Hello,

I just received a check in the mail from a company called Kinesis Consulting out of Washington, DC. However I did not sign up for the mystery shopper program but since being unemployed have been receiving a lot of text messages about getting paid to shop. This is new for me and I want to avoid being scammed.

I noticed on the list of companies on this site they show a Kinesis CEM but not just a Kinesis Consulting out of Washington DC. The website is showing kinesisconsulting.com but I cannot seem to verify the company online with BBB.
When I call I get a recording saying they are very busy at the moment.

Has anyone heard of this company and I am afraid to cash this check.

Check companies on here, and remember the scam is when they send you money, never cash that check. There is a list of reliable companies posted and shoppers write here about slow or non payment...read and read.

It is a scam. Mystery shopping companies do NOT send you checks prior to your performance of shops for them and generally the payment is in the range of $5-15 per shop and paid 2 weeks to 3 months AFTER you file your report.

If you want to be kind, call Kinesis at 206-285-2900 and tell them about the scam being perpetrated in their name. They may be interested or they may blow you off. Put all materials in a ziplock bag to keep them from collecting too many fingerprints or prints there smudging too much and if Kinesis does not want the material for their investigation, take it to the Post Office since you indicated this came in the mail.

Thank you so much. I have this check for about two weeks in the amount of $1,887.00. They said to deposit into my account and take out $350 for myself for the first assignment and then I will get instructions for the first survey or something like that. Thanks again because I am always leary of scams and just wasn't sure in this case how it works receiving a check that looks really real and written on a Wells Fargo account.

I called Kinesis they told me to throw it away. There are fraudulent companies that have been using their name and if I deposit that check they will take money out of my account. Thank you so much,.

A lot of scams "borrow" the name of legitmate companies, and this type of check cashing scam is all too common. Kudos to you for being cautious and checking.

Thanks for contacting us. On the internet apparently you make any thing look legit. I get them all the time and in the mail also. Very annoying. If you do want to mystery shop you can make actual money and you can ask us how. Never pay to shop. All Scams.
