I just did a Best Buy for another company and I did not like it at all. I only got paid $10 plus a grand $1.50 reimbursement and had to shop two departments. I also had to explain in detail twice why I only gave the two employees I interacted with a middle range score instead of a higher one.

Same here Lindazane. Also, if there's nothing you really want to purchase at Best Buy, isn't obvious that you're a mystery shopper when you leave with only a candy bar or bottle of water? How about a picture of the store with a day/time stamp as proof instead?
Those are the mystery shops. The OP was asking about the audits which have been with a different company for last few years.

I had this happen on my compliance shop at the 'big box' store. The cashier questioned my soda purchase and asked if I always take my soda breaks here.
I laughed and said I was looking for a gift for my son, but it was harder to do than I thought. I'm not sure what he'd like. The cashier responded 'Yeah sure'.

Sorry should have been more specific, I was referring to the audits. Maybe they are just hanging around until someone does one because I'm pretty sure nobody has ever picked one up in the last year for the two locations in my city.

Maybe that's why they are supposed to be moving. The company that had them would aggressively pursue auditors to get them completed and I don't recall seeing any of the stores in Kansas on the list with any regularity. It certainly wasn't easy to travel to locations when they required the job take two days in the store.

That's what I always think.. why can't I just take a picture of the store? I buy water everytime and half the time the cashier looks at me and says "That's it?" like boggled that I come into an electronic store for water! I really think the work load is deserving of a few more dollars as well. $10 is just not much at all.

My Best Buy card has a zero balance and I no longer shop them. Would I shop them again? Perhaps. Would I audit them? Probably not.
Best Buy Co. said it plans to close 50 big box stores and open 100 small mobile locations in the U.S. in fiscal 2013 and cut $800 million in costs by fiscal 2015. The news came Thursday as the biggest U.S. specialty electronics retailer posted a fiscal fourth quarter loss partly due to restructuring charges, but its adjusted results topped Wall Street's expectations.
They are now being split up into 4 section the revealed audits, so that if you dont want to spend all day there, you can just pick the sections you want to do.
This is going to lead to bad fragmentation, as people are going to favor certain parts of the revealed over the other.

Techman01, have you seen the audits on the MS company's website, or just the shadow shopper? I have not seen them posted anywhere except shadow shopper.
shadow shopper? dont use them. I received a couple of emails from the msc telling me all about the program and how it will be broken up etc...

I do these shops all the time and have never been questioned on my Coke Zero purchase...maybe it's because I'm a 29 year old male so "I fit in just browsing and then buying a pop on my way out". I'm also interested in what the audit program brings as I have yet to see one other than on Jobslinger

The new company wants you to pay for a background check and a shirt before performing an audit, and they offer $130 for 12 hours in the store plus (presumably) reporting time at home. Check Jobslinger if you want to know more.
The time in store quoted is about the same as the old one. The wording makes it seem they might be more flexible with auditors who can complete them more quickly. They also are reimbursing for the background check and shirt after a minimum number of audits. It's not clear if it is the equivalent of full audits or refers to segments. The shirt is what kind of sounds cruddy. I wonder what it looks like? With only one reimbursed you either have to buy more and launder it quite often if you are auditing more than one store, LOL!

I just did them in 7h or less and chose small stores. Especially in months that I did 6-7 in a row, I had it down cold to 5-6h. Even though it was tiring, I preferred to do a group of them in the same week as the flyer will be the same and product locations and stock levels will be similar. If I had to go a second day it just did not worth my time because it took so long to input the reports.
I wonder if this has something to do with why the audits have been pushed for May.

I have also made the bottled water purchase on this assignment, however, I have recently started purchasing $5 gift cards which is the lowest denomination permitted. Although only $1.50 is reimbursed, I look at it as getting the gift card at a 30% discount. I usually get the cards with the birthday balloons on it so it appears I am getting it as a token gift for a child or to include with a gift I may already have. Once I accumulate enough cards, I will use them to buy those crazy expensive video games for my son or nephews.
I have done the shops and they are a pita for $11.50. Got a request from the MSC to do more of these. I told the MSC that these are not compensated enough for the amount of effort involved. Spent an hour and a half in the store talking to two different sales people.

I don't see why everybody is hating on these shops. Yeah they don't pay a lot, but I find them so easy to do I take as many as I can within rotation.
If I could conveniently work it into my route, I would schedule these as often as possible. After I became familiar with the reporting requirements and questions, the additional time required for this shop after leaving the store was minimal. I became even more interested in the shops once I realized I could get a $5 gift card for $3.50 (after reimbursement of course). I have had to take a hiatus as I am nearly certain that a couple of associates must be onto me as a shopper as I have encountered them in the past and they are still wondering when or if I am every going to buy that TV or computer. LOL!
I just heard one of my local stores is closing. I've said before there are 3 within 10 minutes, now there will still be 2
