Start by only browsing through the "Official list of mystery shopping companies" on this forum. Do not send out your personal information to a company that requests it through email. You usually sign up directly on a secure website. Do not cash any checks, money orders, or agree to accept an Ipad, Iphone, or laptop for doing some weird type of assignment that just sounds too good to be true. RESEARCH! Put as much information into Google as you can and see what comes up.

Always get the name AND weblink through a trusted source - This forum, MSPA, Volition, and look for sites that use SASSIE, PROPHET, or SHOPMETRIC as their sign up https:// subdomain. You won't loose.
Although, one could imagine an illegal company some day using Sassie since it doesn't cost a lot to use their interface...

My name actually makes the intials KFC lol........i thank yall so much! I am a college student and recruited to to Mystery shop at Walmart........I should have known it was too good to be true when I saw the email was from a regular domain (yahoo)......Recently I was "paid" but was given three money orders from two different sources....so like someone said I went straight to google and found out these could be fake and that a Secret Shopper corporation would not have wanted me to wire money through a Western uniion.......I am just glad I saw these forums before I went and tried to put these in my bank account!

Yes, Bestmark is the name of a legitimate MS company but note that scammers have been known to use the names of legitimate companies to try to seem legal and aboveboard. If you go to their site yourself and sign up you are indeed connecting with the real deal, if they approach you out of the clear blue sky with no prior contact on your part then run like hell.
