Scam!!!! No one is going to send u a REAL check!!! Theyll make you deposit it into ur bank and send them their amount and they'll tell you to buy a debit card with the rest. Since it is not a real check, it will bounce in your account and you will owe the full amount of the check. Be careful!!! Legit shops will not charge you to become a shopper for them, nor will they send you a check to complete an assignment. You complete an assignment, and then you are compensated, not the other way around. Hope this helps!
Perhaps it is a scam, but a reputable scheduling company is recruiting for ACE cash express and Walmart Money centers (targeted shops). They send you a check, you cash it, buy a debit card and whatever is left is your fee. The check amount is not high $40 for ACE and $30 for Walmart.
Think it through. If you are not sending money off to a third party and the dollar amount is within reason, it may well be legit. If there is no way that a scammer could benefit then it probably is not a scam. A scammer benefits by being the party you send along your money to. If what you are doing is purchasing a debit card which you keep, then a scammer would not be getting their payday.
What confused me was "buy a debit card and whatever is left is your fee." That makes it sound like you send the card somewhere. Considering the dollar amounts involved, the card less any processing charges has to be part if not all of the fee.

I reread this multiple times since it sounded fake at first. But if you log onto kern yourself instead of using the link you will see the shops are there right now! Kern is a reputable company. And the money is deposited to you. You are not out anything but your time if it is fake. The fees are taken out of the check they send you so not out of pocket.

I finally found one of these on the job board to see what made this different than the "scam" shops. It sounded strange with depositing a check and keeping a portion. The guidelines are that the check is used to purchase the debit card, not to be put in your bank first. The check is meant to cover any fees and the remainder that goes onto the card will be the shopper's fee. Besides the obvious difference in the amounts, the entire scenario is quite a bit different since nobody has to send anything anywhere. sandyf is right, the worst a shopper will be out is their time.
