1st Coyle Report...

About to get started. A bit nervous after reading other posts here about them. I've looked over the example, and hope to follow that format. Dinner came to $110...yikes! It was -VERY- (haha) good! Hopefully I'll get paid. smiling smiley

Keep on referring to the format and you'll do fine. Make sure to include everything, don't use contractions, etc. (I guess I should have said,"you will do fine" and "do not use contractions"!) :-)
Also, don't be disappointed if you don't get a perfect score first time around.

It takes time to get used to the format.
I am wondering what both of you thought of your first Coyle report. I did my first shop for them a few weeks ago. They advertised it as a very short report with very little to write but it ended up being several pages of narrative. I was not really expecting that much narrative after reading their description. I did a retail boutique.

The simplest report with Coyle will still most likely be a lot of work, so use those shops to get your foot in the door and learn the system, then choose wisely.

As far as how many shops you need to move up; There's no set number. It's all dependent on how well you scored and the need for shoppers in your area.
After reading a number of threads here regarding this company...I decided I needed a challenge and tried to apply. I was almost thru the application, when I came across the question; "Describe or define the 5&10 staff rule"...I had no idea what it was in reference to...I used the "back" navigation button at the bottom of the page and everything just locked up. When I tried to sign back in to completed the app.I got an error message that I had completed the survey and couldn't complete it again...Sent an email but have not received a reply yet and this was 5days ago...

Can anyone tell me what the 5 & 10 staff rule is? I read all of the info on there site before attempting to apply...I simply don't recall reading anything about any 5&10 staff rule...any assistance will be appreciated...

I didn't know either. I did a quick Google search and though it's posted on an off topic site, it sure sounds like it:

According to entertainmentcruises.com
10 & 5 Rule
When a guest comes within ten feet (10) of a team member(s), the team member(s) should cease their conversation to acknowledge the approaching guest. At approximately five (5) feet our team members should acknowledge the guest(s) with a nod or greeting, whenever appropriate.

Hey there blaq,

I am fairly new to all of this myself, but from what I've gathered, the 5/10 rule is a guestimate of the number of staff that comes within five or ten feet within a certain period of time. IE: The number of staff that comes within five or ten feet of you and how they react (usually set by the guidelines). The idea is that when the person conducting the survey comes within these ranges of employees, the employee should stop their activity, acknowledge the guest (in whatever way the specs suggest, a head nod, a smile, eye contact, etc.) and how they resume their work.

I think there might be variations on a theme-- it seems like it might mean something a little different to everyone-- but it seems to be the basic idea.

I hope this helps!
Thanks to you both...Sylvo2121 & Jentodd...

I'll try to apply again next week when I have a spare hour...
I didn't think it was too bad. I tried to be objective and explain things. Hopefully I get paid lol

I lost count years ago. Let's just say it's enough to generate a 1099 each year.

Regarding questions on the application; keep in mind that this MSC is looking for people that will step up to a challenge. If you cannot take the time or initiative to open another browser window and 'Google' something, you will most likely not do well as an evaluator for them. When applying, expect to always find some sort of question that will test that initiative.

I can assure you that, "I don't know," is not the correct answer, but you may be shocked if you knew how many people wrote something of that nature for questions like that.

Thanks Steve for the 411...in no way was I going to answer "I didn't know"...I just didn't think to google...was trying to go back on their site to see if it was something I missed in the narratives...but I will try again...thanks
Ah, a trip down memory lane... When I applied to Coyle, I had to look up the rule. Sylvo2121 got it right.
They are an excellent company to work with and their reports are long. Their pay makes up for the long reports and I think by far they have the best shops in the MS world. I am a regular with this company.
I have worked for Coyle for about a year now and have done several evals for them. After the last one I did I am so frustrated I am thinking I do not want to do anymore for them. I am having a hard time getting all the details they want in the format they want, so nitpicky I am not sure I want to do anymore. My report scores are all over the board, anywhere from a 14 - 18, and I hate to do a job if I don't feel I am doing it excellently.
I'm bummed!

I sent in an application to Coyle (with a referral from a current shopper) back in late October - and never heard anything back.

I'm assuming then that I did not get accepted! My silly husband was accepted by them - and even HE was surprised, because, as he says, "I can't write or spell for crap and it takes me hours to write a small 4 sentence paragraph." So he couldn't figure out why he was accepted as a shopper and I wasn't. (and my husband is correct, he cannot spell or well with narratives, even if he uses Word/Spell Check - he still has major spelling errors)

Oh well, maybe eventually I'll get accepted by Coyle!
