Their rice shops are super simple

Not even sure what shops they are doing these days as they have very little in my area any more.

The rice shops are a stale scenario, or at least they were into the end of last year--I haven't seen them since. You are required to purchase a specific size new box and a 1# bag of rice, then package it and take it to a shipper to send it to a specific address. I have been in the shipping place when a shopper was sending the requisite box to the specific address. If I can recognize it having done about a dozen of these shops in 2006 and could still recognize the box and address in late 2007, do you think the shipper hasn't seen the pattern?

The other problem with the shop is that they spoke of it as being a $22.50 shop but it was a $10 fee and even when the price of shipping was less and the price of rice was half what it is now the $11.50 barely covered the expense, much less cover the additional trip to get supplies.

There are a few of those shipping shop in my area, so I presume they're still using the rice. It costs $11.50 to ship just one pound of rice?

Imagine being the person receiving all these boxes.

When I was doing them the box to be purchased was just under a buck, the rice was about 50 cents and the shipping from Florida was in the $9+ range. It wasn't like you could take it to the Post Office. This is one of the shipping companies.

I did 2 rice ships this month. $.79 for the box/ $1.29 for the rice. $5 something for shipping (San Diego).

Thats not too bad. So when they send you the $11.50 you do see some profit from it.

There are a lot of the "rice" shops around me. Knowing how expensive [name of company] is, I wouldn't take the job because I wouldn't make a profit. $10 isn't worth it.

Does anyone know who gets the rice?

They indicated at one point that it was given to a food bank in the destination city. That was indicated as a reason why you couldn't take your kitchen scale and bag up #1 of kitty litter or rice or sand or whatever.

Well that's nice. Who gets the tax deductions on that one? (Yes, I'm greedy!!)

They end up being the donor and I suppose could say that the cost to them was $11.50 for that bag of rice since that is what they were "paying you" for it.
