Scanner problem

It is intermittent. Error message says cannot connect, blah, blah. It seems if I let it rest and turn off power it will decide to come back to work. I can't really fire it, as much as I would like to.
if tech savvy is out there, Please help. It is less than 1 year old HP all in one PLEASE do not make me call HP tech support. I will send homemade cookies if you save me from from this hell.

I would start by trying another USB cable to eliminate that as the problem since it appears to be intermittent, and/or then maybe download updated drivers from HP's website and try installing them again.

Sounds like a plan. Going to try. THANKS!

Yes, updated drivers would be my first suggestion. It might be a cable, but that is unlikely if turning it off and letting it cool can solve the problem. Sometimes updates in other software step on my printer connection and I suspect this may be the same. Updated drivers usually do the trick, though sometimes it just requires doing 'housecleaning' on the computer. In urgent situations (no longer intermittent) it may require using the 'go back' feature in Windows to reset things to an earlier date when everything worked together and be cautious about updates.
With my Dell D600 laptop, the scanner won't work if the mouse and USB Broadband internet antenna stick are plugged in, so taking out both items and plugging in the scanner alone will allow it to function. I scan, then unplug it and plug back in the mouse and USB stick...

I was told that even with usb hubs, some scanners require more power, and the more costly electric powered usb hubs will resolve this problem. LOL--so even with 4 usb ports, additional plug in items need more power anyway...
mine is the same way... it works 95% of the time... i think the last couple of times it was just the heat or humidity... mine is an f4440... i bought another printer just in case...

Sometimes it just needs a little cleaning. If you take out your ink carts and very gentlely clean the cavity and contacts where the carts slide in, it will make a big difference. I do this with a moist paper towel with rubbing alcohol. (Your hands will be ink stained unless you wear glove.) Let the cavities dry for about 10 minutes and plug the carts back in. Be sure to wipe the contacts inside those cavities the best you can.
