used appliances

Grumble, Piss, Moan... I need a gas stove. Do the folks on marketplace ever return a PM? I've PM'd every gas stove, even the abused looking ones advertised for $300 or less for 200 miles around. NOT ONE has replied at all.

does craigslist still work? I guess I'll try ebay, and do a search for other ways to buy used appliances..

I've ever done it myself, but it seems like I frequently see people in the local buy sell trade group saying they are looking for a used stove, or whatever, and they get tons of responses. A lot of people would probably be happy just to have someone haul one off, if the opportunity pops up in their feed.
I used Marketplace in the past month to find an item and had responses from all three people I contacted (two of whom answered that they'd sold the item and had forgotten to remove it from Marketplace). I bought it from the third. . . .Re: Craigslist, a few times a year I post large items I'm getting rid of. I reply when contacted, and I have sold most things I've listed, so there are people who check Craigslist when they're looking for something.
Do you have a "Nextdoor" app and/or website in your area? They post regular posts and also lots of stuff for sale.
I don't know where you are located, but in the Dallas area, the are a lot of used appliance stores. They repair and resell and even offer delivery.
We bought a used dryer from someone on Marketplace a few years ago but I haven't bought anything recently. I know my FB messenger or marketplace messages sometimes go into the "other" inbox so that might have happened to these sellers. Hopefully someone responds soon.
Made, I used to belong to a bunch of buy/sell groups on Faciebutts, but most of them turned into @#$%& fights between two or more young women, or frauds. So I begged out of most of them, some went dormant too. Only one seems to stay moderately active, for a town I visit frequently.

I did finally get a response from a guy in TN, but the temperature was dropping quickly and it was already well below freezing when we got home. I guess we'll try to see that stove tomorrow afternoon. And if that one doesn't do the trick, I'll try Craigslist, it's been a few years since I've looked for anything there.

Bare, I had a GREAT fridgidaire stove in CA that was a scratch and dent from Lowes. For very many years that was the only way I bought appliances. In the big(ish) city North of me they have a Lowes Outlet store, so the local regular Lowes stores don't have scratch n dent inventory anymore, at least not that I've seen, and we do a LOT of Lowes shops. The gas stoves they have at the Outlet store are all Whirlpool stoves, with all of their control panel problems, just like the one in my kitchen. And the prices aren't a serious improvement from the retail store.

My mother did the books for a Used Appliance place, they also had a couple service guys that went to customers homes to fix large appliances. That guy was a little shady, but he had a big piece of land in Fontucky, CA and my mother used part of his land to grow vegetables and livestock to butcher. I got a couple whole hogs out of that situation.. I didn't mind that very much, until one of the service techs blew up my 70's gold refrigerator in my kitchen. Since then I've mostly steered clear of used appliance stores. And there are far fewer consumer protections here in AL than there are in CA.

I believe we've decided to just keep playing the game. < $175 to replace the controller, the igniter, and the temp sensor again. I can't get a guarantee that everything that works on any used stoves from the used appliance places, or an extended warranty. Lowe's scratch and dent discounts aren't actually substantial discounts, more like 10% off sales prices, after they raised the prices to MSRP.

I found that there is an updated controller to replace the controllers that fail repeatedly, I'll try that one this time, with a new igniter, because the other new one burnt up on it's maiden voyage, and the temp sensor that doesn't seem to have worked at all since it was replaced last year. When the oven did work, it took 3x as long to get to temperature, and everything took twice as long to cook. So we're going to try ONE more time. New controller, new igniter, new sensor, and adding new insulation and shielding where the wires are bare.

We're also going to make some irish spring soap into liquid and spray it under the house, and get some rodent resistant insulating foam to spray in the rafters, and inside the walls between the two sides of the house where they smashed the two single wide mobilehomes together and then ran the wires down between them the length of the building.

If it doesn't work this time, we WILL buy a brand new stove, no if ands or butts. And it will NOT be a Whirlpool. I'll look for a Fridgidaire like the one I was forced to leave behind in CA that I'd had for close to 15 years. Or a completely manual Magic Chef like the one that I had for 20 years before I bought that Fridgidaire.

purple, my rats have killed off 2 barn cats, Ace chased them into the garage and came out with a broken back and two broken legs, Prissy ate a poisoned rat from my neighbor's yard, I think I lost some chickens to my neighbor's poison too. The terriers don't seem extra interested in chasing them. Even the Schipperke mutt seems to have better things to do than help kill rats (what they were bred to do on ships). I do have an LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog, Anatolian Shepherd) that helps chase them into the drowning bucket at the end of the porch, and I have 6 rat traps that are set every night, and my son drops the rats from the traps into the drowning bucket. Once a week he takes the drowning bucket out to my forest and lets the wild things have them. Keeps the foxes and other carnivores out of my chicken coop.

Both of those cats were very protective of my chickens, I don't think either of them ever even tried to kill a chicken. they even protected the baby chicks when we had broody hens hatch some.

The stove saga continues...

We decided to fix this one... again. Turns out the controller wasn't bad, but the one I purchased to replace it was. It was the temperature sensor. And the igniter burned up, so it had to be replaced again. Now the oven works almost as good as new. That's the good news.

Apparently the "leak" the propane guy couldn't find was the pipe to the oven manifold, my son found it because I smelled gas, 2 years later, when the tank is nearly empty. The pipe should be here Monday or Tuesday.. So I MAY be able to bake in a few days. The real problem is the low propane tank because I was told every time I smelled gas that he didn't and the stove was off.

And you are dead set on sticking with gas in spite of everything? It wasn't an option at this house so I was using electric and missing gas but when it was time to replace, I went induction (and high tech at that). LOVE it! Same instant on/off heat of gas but without the health and safety risks.

I got a massive discount through The Insiders.

This house doesn't have electricity for the stove, except for a 120v 15A household outlet. There is a 240 outlet, but it has no wires, and no breaker in the breaker box. I have an electric water heater, that we recently replaced, there is no gas plumbing for the water heater, but there is a gas line that goes to the broken heat pump 30 ft. away..

What's "Insiders"?
Influencer site. I'll message you more, don't want to take this post off the rails.
Pay for my plane fare. I'll come connect the water heater electric or gas. Grandpa was a plumber and Dad read a whole hell of a lot.
And I forgot to say, I worked as a pipe fitter. And my cousins lived in Butler Alabama so im used to "he's a Yankee".
lol rosie, I'm a prune picker.. I was born and raised in CA.. lived there using natural gas for 55 years. I'd love to be able to use induction, all of my pans are cast iron, stainless steele or carbon steel. So I shouldn't have any trouble using an induction cooktop. Might be something to put in the house that I plan on building. But in that house there will also be a wood burning fireplace that can be used for cooking too.
Most of the time Lowe's and Home Depot have 0% financing options on new appliances for 6 months, and I think Best Buy even longer terms. Sounds like you got your problem worked out by getting yours fixed.
Still working on the fixes.. The new pipe came yesterday, there were more leaks, and I have another part coming from Whirlpool because no one else seems to carry it.
