Made some changes

Well, for the first time in 25 years I decided to try another cell phone provider. I tried to leave Verizon one other time, 25 years ago, and a little more than a year later they bought the company that I had changed to. At the time it seemed as if resistance was futile, but this last 2 years with Verizon has been strange. They promise one thing, and it works for one month, but doesn't continue into the next cycle, even though they promise this new deal is forever. And then they had that outage in May a couple years ago, and when they restore the service, suddenly I didn't have access to even their basic "5G" anymore. I've complained about it, made a good friend in tech support, but she quit the job because of the stress. But nothing has changed with too many reports to count. Then I added a tablet line, and the rep said that my new bill would be $175 per month, 4 months later, not a single one of my monthly bills has been less than $200. After 2 months me and a store manager discovered that the rep who activated my spare tablet, actually added 2 lines. The store manager, and the next rep I spoke to on the phone both told me that now that the extra line was no longer on my account, the bill would go down and it would be $175 like they said before. That month it was $222, the next month it was $236 and they refunded $49 for ONE month of the extra line and the activation fee. I told them that I was NOT going to pay more than $175, and the manager I spoke to that day promised that my bill would be $175, and everything would be ok, it wasn't, my bill was $195.

I called T-Mobile, I looked at their coverage map and it showed better coverage in my area than Verizon. And today we made it official. And my bill is supposed to be $130. But honestly, as long as I can do everything I could do with my Verizon account and it stays below $175 per month, I'm perfectly satisfied. Oh, and they are paying off both of the phones, my son's broken S23 Ultra and my POS Pixel 7 Pro. At first blush, it seems I've made the correct decision, we have full, high speed, 5G service at home for the first time since that outage that Verizon had 2 years ago.

Been wanting to cut my 20 year relationship with Verizon. Keep us informed on whether it continues to work for you.
Check out Consumer Cellular. I don't need an Apple 15million or a Samsung gazillion to make phone calls or text but my Samsung galaxy a10 is paid for and service is $25 per month. Slightly more for additional lines. But nowhere near $175
From what i can tell I'm using the att network. If you do a little research i think Mint os $20 a month and there are multiple plans you can buy at Walmart

Or did you just come here to complain. There sare options.
Thanks rosie, I don't have internet or wifi at home. I'm VERY rural, we don't have access to cable or any type of broadband internet connections here. I use my phone as a hotspot for my desktop computer. With T-Mobile it seems I'll have about 60 gigs less hotspot data than I had before, but they said that it'll still work with the high speed internet data and I won't be charged extra for it. I guess it's a wait and see kinda thing now. We're fully switched over.

I'm impressed so far, we have full "high speed" 5G, and everything is much better and quicker, on the desktop, and the tablet so far. Since I made the switch this afternoon I've had no warnings to use wifi or a better internet connection from any website. With the Verizon I was getting warnings from around 17:00 - 23:00 every time I new show started and sometimes during commercial breaks too.
I've been with Verizon for a while. For me in a bigger area, the quality of service has been good. Currently on a grandfathered smaller data plan, but looking to upgrade the plan to the Unlimited Welcome plan.

I was in the market for a new phone and thought about buying an old unlocked one. But if I upgrade the plan, the trade-in value of my current phone is sizeable. The grandfathered plan doesn't offer a discount with autopay, but the unlimited plan after autopay discount would be comparable to the cost of my current plan. I might go this route.
I have had T Mobile for 25 years. My bill for 4 lines is 115 each month. I have an old, grandfathered plan. I have had minimal issues with them over the years. I have done the cell phone shops where I have to go to verizon and pretend I want to change providers. I can't believe the cost of their service.

Tmobile has always been great to me, hope you are happy with them long term and your bill stays the same!
When I lived in Dallas I lived a block away from a Verizon central office. That's where the land line phones connect to. I would have to walk out my front door to the middle of the street to get a signal on my cell phone. And city hall was about a half mile from where I lived.

I guess what I'm saying is it all depends on what the carrier deems it needs to provide service to. Demographics and all that stuff.

5G unlimited can be faster than cable internet depending on circumstances.
Hm, I don't think I've run into that issue so far. For me, one factor with going Verizon was the reliability of the calls after cutting the landline. For data, sometimes it might get throttled/prioritized during peak times. All the places I've worked, there's been a subsidized Verizon plan available. In Dallas, I don't think there's much of a drop-off between Verizon and ATT. I've never had 5G before, but I might look into it.
I'm totally happy with Verizon.

My bill is $110 a month (still paying on my iPhone 14... it was $95 before I traded in my 8), and it includes a free subscription to Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+.

My rewards on my Verizon VISA card are automatically applied to the bill each month before the card autopays it.

I do believe T-Mobile has expanded 5G into some areas that Verizon is not, but I don't think it's worth going through the hassle of changing carriers (and losing my subscriptions).

Have synthesizers, will travel...

I believe I'm supposed to get Netflix and Apple music or Apple TV. I told them to forget Apple anything, I won't use it, I won't subscribe to it. But I think I wouldn't mind having Netflix again, as long as I don't have to pay for it. I may have to call customer service and get that set up. I also need to set up the online access to my account so I can pay my bills and such.
