Halloween, time for mysteries

This murder/death happened before I started MSing, but it's always intrigued me....it's the quintessential mysterious death. To my knowledge, it's never been solved. I can queue the music and Robert Stack's voice.
Details:
Well respected, very experienced mystery shopper travels from her home in the Phoenix area all the way to Northern California to do some mystery shopping. She was known as a master of disguise (side note, I have never done disguise for MSing, have you?)

Ends up dead in a parking lot outside a mall. Police baffled.
I can see this article, it's not behind a paywall.

A decade of mourning and wondering...

Bach is not noise, Madam. (Robert, in Two's Company)
The horror movie folks caught me today.. my son quoted a line from a horror movie and I didn't know it. The last horror movie I watched was Alien, and only because my husband at the time forced me to. The last one I watched before that was The Exocist. I don't like horror movies, and I'm not a fan of blood and guts.
While it's sad, the logical part of me wonders how likely it is that her death was related to her career in mystery shopping. It seems much more probable that it was a random robbery gone wrong or some type of accident.

The mystery I'd most like to see solved is the disappearance of Jody Huisentruit.

Yes, it's up for debate as to whether it was related to MSing....although....the article notes that nothing was taken from her belongings...presumably that includes a wallet or cash or credit cards etc.
I keep hoping one day they'll run a DNA analysis and figure this one out - like they do with other cold cases.
I always wondered why she flew and rented a car just for MSing....would have to be some HUGE compensation for me to do that.
That Huisentruit case is very interesting. I smell so many possibilities there.
Here's something on it from this summer.

If I could go back and start a career all over again....I would choose a career in crime investigation.
