Poker

I can't stand slot machines and I enjoy Black Jack or Pai Gow poker in small doses.
But....I'd like to learn how to play regular poker....you know, where a little skill matters... I believe with experience, I could do ok with it.
Do any of you play?
How does one get started without losing one's shirt, since in the beginning....you are a still a beginner?
Are there practice games online? does anyone know?

How about video poker machines. You can actually buy strategy cards to tell you how to play hands.

Unless you like the social aspect of table games. But I don't think there's much social interaction when you're actually playing against others vs. The House.

I think that's another variant winking smiley

Texas Hold 'em is good to play with a larger number of people and dealer. Each person gets two cards. There's five community cards. It gets drawn in a 3-1-1 format. After each draw, each player can continue to wager or fold. It's less cumbersome with each player having their own full hand. With revealed community cards, there's more of a bluffing and all-in element.

The other variants are five-card draw and seven-card stud. This might be fun to to play with a smaller amount of people and get familiar with the full game in general.
I remember Word Series of Poker got televised. You might be able to watch highlights on YouTube. Online, I never played as much. But in person, what people say about lying, having tells, and reading body language is a lot more real than what most people would think it is.
I've played before for fun. The key is to have very small raise limits if you don't want to lose your shirt. Texas Hold'em has the advantage of everyone buying in for a certain amount, so you can't lose more than you spent buying in.
I used to play many years ago. I haven't in many years, and I've had better luck with the video poker than I have with actual cards, even in LV casinos.
I play with a couple of neighbors husband/ wife teams. We only play with pennies. We play once a month. When my husband was alive, he would play with us. He was pretty good at it.I have been playing with them for 25 years now and still rarely win. I guess I'll never get good at it. But we have fun.
Playing live (with actual humans) is superior, but there are apps you can download to play.

I have an app called swagbucks, and when you play certain games through their app, you can earn points. I used one called Pokerist and one for Spades. The same company also has Slottist but well, that's slots which you don't like smiling smiley
