So Much Racism. It Gets Me Down Sometimes.

I'm a melanated man in NW LA(Louisiana). We have Sundown towns all around us. Converse, LA, Jasper, TX, etc. I was once in Converse, LA, and was evaluating a gas pump. This "PINK" lady walked past me and blatantly called me the "N" word. That same trip, I was inside the store when this elder came up to me and told me that I better hurry up and get out of town because he's heard people talking about getting me. I typically carry because I am licensed plus I have a pitbull and Rottweiler riding with me. That day, I had nothing. I quickly finished up and was out of there! When I go back (nobody's going to shorten my pockets), I'm well protected and I have a system. I will only go down there on Sunday mornings at 8am. See, the biggest racists are usually Christians, too. So, at that time, they're either getting ready for Sunday school at Church or still sleeping. I slip in, do my thing, and head out
This one other time, I was doing a job in Garrison, TX. My melanated Punjabi people owned this store. I was coming out of the bathroom from inspecting it. The wife was outside of the door. She asks me if everything was ok. I told her yes but it's been a long time since I've seen a condom machine in the bathroom. She then proceeded to ask me if Im hungry. I tell her about my IBS and how I don't eat while I'm out because I would have to go to the bathroom. She tells me that their food is really good. I still decline. Then, she tells me how good the food is. The next thing is a quote. "Go ahead. Get you dome chicken. I KNOW HOW YOU PEOPLE LIKE CHICKEN." YES! SHE TOLD ME THAT! Magically, I found a lot of stuff to write them up for. Hmmm...

Sorry yall. It just gets me down. I have a vending and a craft business on Etsy. I wasn't dealing with the public as much. Has it really changed out here that much????

I don't know if it has changed. I think it has always been. I think covid definitely made people more brazen. I literally had a guy in my bar the other day. All of us were white. He said he won't go to chicago because it's too dark THREE times. I think he expected us to back him up. No, sir. I'm actually disappointed in myself for needing his money so much I didn't tell him it was inappropriate. We all talked about him after he left.
I've never understood racism. God made us all. We are all people.

Not acceptable. Society makes my blood boil at times. Recently, I was on the escalator up through the RR terminal. I moved my large purse as i thought it was hindering the lady behind me. I hear grumbling. We get off and she yells at me that she wasn't about to pick my purse! I was speechless. Here i was thinking I was being thoughtful and polite. At this stage in my life, I have started to pick my battles. I left
this one by itself.

This is terrible that this happened to you.

I would like to understand why you feel it is okay to make a blanket statement that "the biggest racists are usually Christians" like it is a fact and no one is supposed to be offended by this.

Not to miss out on another opportunity to slide some more racism into your post you add:

in your best effort to impersonate a Punjabi woman.

She was trying to be kind and you were correct to decline the offer of food and that is where it should have ended. However you were offended by her remark and that is when you proceeded to conjure up offenses for the report - your words. Your evaluation is supposed to be objective and without prejudice.

Hmmm, making stuff up on a report is not what it is about.

Wow, just wow. I know some places are still in the dark ages but c'mon now. I am sorry to hear this crap still goes on and that you had to deal with it (and I have to say I agree about the predominance of racists being of a certain persuasion).
Wait. Did the person mean that Chicago is energetically or spiritually dark, or that Chicago has a number of persons who are blessed with darker skin tones?

Look, there will ALWAYS be racism, ageism, sexism, payism? (economic inequality), appearanceism? (difference in looks), and on and on. It will NEVER be stopped. If you think it can be stopped you are fooling yourself. People are going to need to deal with it. That's why YOU get the opportunity to pick who you want to be around.

Keep your chin up and march on.

As a woman, I feel like I can relate. Safety awareness has been my constant companion since I am a child.
In your neck of the woods, it apparently hasn't changed. A friend who was in the military used to travel through Louisiana with a black soldier. They switched driving through certain towns as the black soldier was from Louisiana and there were towns his white friend would have problems. Some places are out of touch with the world.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

Regarding the OP and context. What is a "pink lady?". I googled briefly and saw references to the Grease movie which I understand.
@Shop-et-al oh they very much meant that it is blessed with people of color. But I don't believe he wanted to use the word blessed.
I consider it a sickness. The logic is how do I get to select what color I am when born? People didn't get to pick an ethnicity selection option before they are born into this world to determine their ethnicity so how can it be held against you? The logic is racism is mental illness. It's nonsensical because humans don't get to select their ethnicity. Hang in there. I would recommend you relocate.
A wee suggestion: When in Rome... If you do not like what people do in some place, do not go to that place Go to like-minded people.

no. we should actively seek out situations that challenge us. its about learning.

living a self centered and cloistered life is significant portion of the problem.

Hmm. Perhaps there is a sound basis for some "unacceptable" views, such as statistical information regarding gang participation rates and behavior patterns and even first- hand experience with merciless victimization by gang members. Who wants to feel the rape and watch the murder? Just sayin.'

I haven’t had racism while doing gas station audits, but I have had men come up to me a few times and yell at me because they thought I was taking photos of them or their vehicle. I stood my ground but it did scare me. I’ve also had men come on to me. I’m sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately, the main stream media and leftists are constantly stoking the flames of racism. They try to pit us against each other. We are all ONE race, the human race.

It's always "they", isn't it?

Classic straw man argument.

I work gas station routes all over SE TX…while there are a number of former “sundown towns” in the area, Jasper Tx is not one of them. A good percentage of the town’s population has always been “melanated” as you put it.
The more interesting part of those areas, to me, is how rude / aggressive the patrons of stations in certain areas of town can be towards complete strangers. I have had men hit on me using language I would be embarrassed to hear from my husband. It is quite unnerving at times.
So how can we accept all persons of whatever descriptive types simply because they are people and also be free to establish boundaries for certain behaviors? Often, our boundaries- which may merely support the notion of safe people and safe places- inspire others (if not fully enrage them) to brand as some sort of -ist.

I have heard assorted variations of this:

"Of course you can be you. You may not continue to treat me to your violence because that violent behavior is both illegal and unwelcome here" "--- you. This is who I am, you friggin' bleeping -ist. You can't control me."

What will it take for everyone to accept people as people while managing their own behavior?
