Christmas

My "To Watch" list includes Christmas Carol (1938) movie and It's a Wonderful Life. So far, I've made little yarn hat ornaments, yarn trees, and reindeer. Those little projects are fun. My pinecone wreath sprayed with silver metallic paint is proudly hanging on the tree as well as on the front door.

My yarn hats are a hit. I shared them on my family what'sapp group and everyone is now making those. Just in case, anyone needs the tutorial.

After work, we picked up holiday groceries (and scoped out the situation for a gig that I could pick up, now that I have seen the set-up). We did not want desserts or other sweets, and we only bought the requisite ham (for hubby) and enough veggies for 2-4 days. However, I would mention these two things for people who lack time. Plain gingerbread person cookies are available for people who might find time to decorate them. The celebrity's packaged bread pudding is good with the rum raisin ice cream, for people who want dessert at any time of day and like mellow spices in their worlds.

Just found out from Youngest Son that in in-home Covid test came back positive, so there will only be two of us for Christmas dinner :-( However, the weather will be in the 50s most of the day, so Hubby and I will eat breakfast, take a walk, hit up the restaurant inside our local Asian store for lunch, then come home and put dinner together. Will take a plate and drop it off on Youngest Son's front porch.

@KathyG..hope he feels better really soon. I watched It's a Wonderful Life...again. Made a few more ornaments with daughter. She wrote a sweet card for our mail carrier with 10 bucks and placed it in the mail box. 12 degrees C tomorrow here so maybe we'll go the Forest Park, come home, and make dinner. Tomorrow's movie will be Christmas Carol, 1938. We watched the 2009 version with our daughter today. Now, if it could only snow!

@Mum. My daughter was the Elf, aka Santa's helper at her job a few years ago. It's a family celebration at her job every year. We made a ton of the yarn hats for her and Santa to give out. Everyone loved them, lol.

Our newest tradition: Listen to Gayla Peevey sing 'I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas (Hippo the Hero)'. I don't know if the lyrics are the cutest or if the music is the funnest thing about this adorable song and the wonderful way Gayla Peevey sings it!

She earned $3,000 and presented Matilda the baby hippopotamus to the zoo before becoming a teacher and then opening an advertising agency. Anyone who is interested can find this online.

We also like the classic Christmas movies and music. I love the classical Christmas music, too. Hubby hates it. Pfffffft. I watched movies from Hallmark, OWN, Lifetime, and others. Hubby actually liked parts of these flicks. Hmm.

For the past week, most of the volunteer DJs at the community radio station I listen to have programmed Christmas music. I've been treated to a variety of genres-pop, singer-songwriter, blues, 'old' country, a capella, bluegrasss, Eastern European, Brazillian, American Indian, and some I can't even remember! It's a refreshing change from what the top 40 Christmas music station plays.

We've spent a most relaxing day at home. I cooked a ham (so easy) and some quick side dishes, and we're waiting for the pie to cool. Watching some old TV programs, too. A great day!

The weather was so nice we rode our bikes to the Asian market for lunch. I had some great pho. On the way out we decided to buy a ‘Santa Claus’ melon.

For dinner we had a Honeybaked turkey breast, roasted potatoes and carrots, greens, roasted tomatoes, bread, melon, and gingerbread cookies. Took a meal to Youngest Son, who definitely has Covid.

Exhausted but so happy. One last gift that was supposed to be delivered today did not happen. I switched out the chicken pot roast for parmigiana. Figured it would go better with the rest of my menu. My and my Mom's 6 layer lasagna (that's 2 of them) were devoured. Unbelievable how much my family eats. The chefs were gleeful and so pleased. Lots of laughs and great conversation. We crafted 11x14 canvases with ball ornaments, jingle bells, embellishments, glitter, etc. DDs posted them on their Twitter accounts for votes. I came in 2nd. Baby girl #1, Beau #2 in 3rd. The prize? Harry & David Moose Munch. Happy holidays to all.

Finally snowing here.. Now, it looks like Christmas! Saw The Christmas Carol 1938 movie the day after Christmas. Still warms my heart.
