My sister sent me two paperback books for Christmas, Olive Kitteridge and Olive, Again, both by Elizabeth Strout. I've started the first one, and have read the first 7 chapters. Somewhat interesting.

I am rereading the trilogy by Laura Sebastian. I'm on the third book Ember Queen. Excellent books. Has romance, adventure, action and it's interesting reading.

I just signed up for Amazon Audible Plus membership. I get 30 day free trial and then it is $7.95 per month. I am psyched.

There are so many audible opportunities but I just as soon stay with Amazon!!

I started a book two weeks ago. I have not had time to get back to it. Eventually, excess work will go away and I can read again.

I am finally getting around to "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds". Been on my list for years.

I am currently (re)reading:

The inaugural and farewell addresses of each POTUS (Washington through Obama). I've read many previously, but have not done a system read of the totality previously.

The newspaper articles written by Karl Marx during his days as a reporter in London (re-reading some; others are fresh reads).

J. Hugh MacLennan's "Two Solitudes" (Novel, Canadian historical fiction, re-reading)

Next up is:
Ayaan Hirsi Ali's "Prey: Immigration, Islam, and the Erosion of Women's Rights" (Just published. And while it takes a negative position, it sill is important to read a sampling from across the spectrum.)

This was a February article that I bookmarked, but am just now reading re: second vaccine shot side-effects.

If anyone is getting their second shot soon, it's a good read/reminder.

I just picked up (at thrift) and started to read The Turning Tide by Charles Stanley.

Will Amazon workers win their Alabama union fight? I have my eyes glued on this bit of news lately. This could be a turning point in modern day unionization in America.

Someone should do a "What are you watching?" and "What are you listening to (music or podcasts)?" thread.

Snow Child right now. I was having trouble reading during the early Covid days. Found it was hard to concentrate but finally getting back more concentration. I have about 10 books that friends and family have sent me during the last year that have been staring at me from my bookshelf wanting attention.

I am reading The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin but am having trouble due to the gross scenes she describes in great detail. There are really good descriptions, but I am having a hard time with parts of it. I will keep reading and hope it gets easier, but doubt that it will. I read reviews to find out she has 2 appendix in the back. That tells a lot about the book. lol I won't say anymore in case someone else decides to read this....>>>>> Laura Sebastian's trilogy was so much easier to read.

Are you a philosophy buff, Rousseau?

I read some Marx (..and Hegel) in undergrad.

Oh, wow. I wish we could explicitly talk politics here on the forum.

That's pretty cool, though! I certainly enjoy both subjects. Thomas Frank is probably my favorite political historian.

I realized the gross and difficult parts would lead up to something at the end ......And it does all come together.... isn't a great ending but all endings are not grand... are they? I returned the Fifth Season and got the next book in JK Nemisin trilogy.....The Obelisk Gate.

More of the mentioned book and substantially more of two other books. I love it when seemingly disparate books and subjects form a larger theme!

Does anyone read Science fiction fantasy books?

I am reading the third book of the trilogy by JK Nemisin called A Stone Sky.

i will be finishing up marial of redwal tomorrow. its a pretty archaic series about animals that have epic battles. im going to be substitute teaching with autistic/non verbal highschoolers and usually have pleny of down time: specials, planning period, usually a movie, and then lunch

I finished The Stone Sky and found some free books.....The Motive by John Lescroart and The Innocent by Harlan Coben.
Has anyone read either of these?

I am reading A Serpent's Tooth by Craig Johnson. Longmire series. Next will be Any Other Name. I like listening to this series but the library didn't have this in audio

I went to the library and got another JK Nemisin book The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. It's really good and very entertaining.

Read the latest news from the library. They are reverting to typical hours and conditions. Yay! So when I get a chance, I will go and browse the stacks. Browsing the stacks is free, non-caloric, and infinitely informative.
