The basil seeds are sprouting in the tomato pot. I have no clue what's happening with the mint. I think the cilantro is sprouting as I saw a bit of green.
I got some pine nuts in anticipation of the basil sprouting.

I set my potted oregano and lucky bamboo in a glass plants outside to benefit from the rain. It's time to prune the oregano.

I have beets, peas and green beans growing so far. It is raining today so tomorrow I'll ride my bike up to the garden to check.

I have a cherokee purple tomato!!!! lots of yellow beans. I bought some basil and oregano too. Cilantro went to seed but I'm still picking it.
Hubby's little herb kit is producing... something! I think those are probably kitchen herbs. And, he is remembering to water the recently planted flower seeds. This is good in our world.

The fern is from a nursery and doing quite well, much to my surprise.

I moved the cilantro pot to a different side of the deck. I checked on it yesterday after Tuesday's rain. The weedy looking shoots have cilantro shaped leaves growing out of them.

I have my watermelon plants and pepper plants in the same whiskey barrel container. My pepper plants are big and bushy. The watermelon plants are growing, but not spreading across the balcony floor.
When I watered the plants this morning, I noticed the melon climbing up the pepper. It made its own trellis.

I put a cage around my pepper plants to give the watermelon plants something to climb. I snapped the main pepper plant. I hope it recovers.

Oh yes, DH went and plucked a few peppers that weren't ready yet. Tomatoes are there, so far we've eaten 4 of them. So delicious! Little zucchinis coming along. Cant wait for our neighbors Kombucha squash. You should see his crops. Amazing!
My husband and I have had a bumper crop of cucumbers this year - over 500 pounds. We have given away so many and finally pulled them up because they were drowning out the peppers. Never had a year like this for cucumbers.
What does one do with 86 pounds of zucchini? Asking for a friend.
Contact local organizations that have food pantry operations. Churches and other houses of worship often do. Call appropriate county gov't agency for names of organizations that serve food needs of the needy. Any place that they call that does not have a food pantry program ask where the nearest one is.

The first year we did zucchini, DH threw seeds down, fertilized and watered. Zucchini coming out of everywhere. We supplied the neighborhood, family, friends. Had so much, one of my DDs posted on local social media and placed them all on a table. Was not crazy about the idea, but they sure went. We did this twice. Second time we added tomatoes. Basil last year? I couldn't get rid of all of it. In retrospect, i should have given it to the local farmers market vendors to sell.
I volunteer at a food bank. Every month, one of the volunteers brings in bounty from his farm. We bag it and give it to the food bank recipients.
One month he had butternut squash. One of the volunteers never had it before. I told her it was hard to cut. The next month, she agreed. She said she liked butternut squash but would only buy it precut from the market.

I've heard with butternut squash to poke holes in it and microwave it for a few minutes. This will soften it enough to peel it. Haven't tried it though.

@kimmiemae, I made a special Thankgiving side dish using butternut squash. Peeling it was the worst part of the holiday.

We gave all the excess zucchini to a local women's shelter, along with a bunch of tomatoes and herbs. In the process, we found that a couple of the managers there would glean our fruit trees. It was definitely a win-win situation.
I have 2 gardens this year. I paid for a garden plot and I have a juliet tomato, serrano peppers and a chile pepper out back here. I am going to pick peppers today. I also have zinnias, blue salvia , 2 types of marigolds and cleomes.
