Wales, that is SO strange! Please post back when you find an answer to this mystery!!
I'm getting paperwork ready for a route. Not shopping but related. Then laundry to get my "uniforms" ready. Now I'm also waiting to find out who sent Wales a bicycle.
Wow. That was my first thought. Hopefully no one "opened" a credit card in your name.

Kimmie,
If they had opened a credit card in my name, why on earth ship the bicycle to mt home address???

Wales..maybe it was a joke from a friend like BG to help you cross the over flooded streams, funny if so,
otherwise a mystery needing to be solved.

Testing to see if they could get away with it? Some thieves are not smart. We had a case where I work where an employee stole a gift card for a local grocery store. He went into the store and swiped his loyalty card when he used the stolen gift card. Busted!!!!

BTW, I'm hoping that's not the case because it's scary what info is out there that is accessible.

Well after a big day of gas stations I'm back home and it's time for BLT's and watermelon, bare feet, my recliner and a few episodes of "The Americans." It truly is a great time to be alive.
Starting tomorrow, have a few free days. This is a good thing. Technically, I am working on one of those days, but it will not feel liike work. Rather, it will be an opportunity to re-visit a fave place and see some scenery. So why can't all work days be like that?

Closing a bank account that was opened for a nice shop. Visiting my bank to get a document notarized. A friend will be helping me extract whatever is in the huge box (might be a bicycle). Test packing dry goods (for making meals) and clothing for my cabin-by-the-sea vacation that starts next week. Cleaning "stuff" out of my car to have better cargo space for vacation when, at times, I will have 2 other folks in the vehicle, along with all of my cargo. Making sure that both housemates know who (locally) to call if the roof blows off the house while I am gone. Prepping meal for tonight and through Monday night.

I have a free day! This just means that I am not working at any job. There is no such thing as free, and... well... it is half-price at the book sale day...and the last time I checked, there were many good history books and classics there... and some of those books should be here! grinning smiley

But the best thing about the day is being at home when the porch is shaded and cool. These are my fave porch conditions for working out, reading, and observing critters.

That did not happen. It was necessary to do shops today instead of on a different date. Maybe someday I can just chill on the porch... and read something besides shop guidelines...

___eta:@walesmaven: I don't know who you are or if you look like Angela Lansbury. Can you picture yourself, on your surprise present, biking around Maine? You could solve mysteries like fictional Jessica Fletcher did, or something...

I am doing a lot of personal stuff or housework like my quite time, mopping floors. I begin the day with breakfast out with my huby not a shop just to spend sometime together. It was nice
Piddling around the house and waiting to see who sent wales a bike.

Celebrating my anniversary a couple of days early. The fun started last night when Hubby and I bought each other presents. Today we're headed towards Alton (just over the Mississippi River in Illinois) to run some errands and browse through the stores in the downtown area. The afternoon's activities are hazy, but at 5:00 we will attend Mass at the church where we got married in 1980. Then dinner somewhere then home.

Yesterday I got the huge box open and determined that the item is an acid red mountain bike, but only worth about $400. And, after 4 days of emailing and leaving voice mail I finally heard back from the on-line store that sent it to me. After many questions back and forth, it was confirmed that, yes, they did send it. Yes, someone must have paid them via PayPal (the only form of payment that they accept), and yes it was NOT my PP account that was charged.

Now here is my dilemma: they have gotten paid for this and I have it. They propose that I send it back and would pay the freight. However, they do not appear to have any idea who actually ordered the bike and no one has complained of not receiving one that was ordered. If I return it, they can sell it again. If I keep it, no one appears to have suffered a loss.

The seller's rep told me that he thinks that this is a scam gone awry. They had a similar case about 6 weeks ago. The speculation seems to be that a hacker got far enough into my Ebay account to order it in my name but not to charge my PP account. (Okay, I do not understand that, but the seller apparently does.) I did recently list something on Ebay, about 2 weeks ago, btw.

Should I insist that the seller find the original buyer, in case that person is NOT a scammer who screwed up, and return their $400 payment before I return the bike? If they cannot do that, should I return the bike (at their shipping cost), sell the bike (I cannot use it, that's for sure.), or what. The seller is a fast-growing dealer in new and used and even vintage bikes, based in the greater SF Bay area.

Meanwhile, I am about to change a whole bunch of access codes!

WOW what a mixup, and I have, never heard of that type of error, however since it started out being a scam on your e-bay account, no one is at loss and you could keep it, question being, was it paid for, I gather yes, in which case if the retailer got their money, the bike is (?) yours.

1. Happy anniversary!
2. Feel better soon.
3. Not a lawyer, but the bike is yours by default if not by de fraud. ?

Congrats on your 38th anniversary!!!

WOW, Wales, I would be spooked out, too! Changing all your codes and passwords seems like the right thing to do! If you have the energy and time, it might be a good thing to find out who did this. Can you push the issue with eBay to find out who ordered this, since they said it seems someone may have been able to hack into your eBay account??? Very strange and odd....and scary.
Happy Anniversary Kathy G and Happy Birthday Alieda!

I would probably sell the bike myself. No one is out any money except a scammer and you are having to go to all the trouble to change all your access codes and passwords. It only seems fair.
wales, keep the bike and screw the scammer. I am curious to know what the hackers did...and how.

Prepping for upcoming shops. Chortling because I finally found the solution to the peskiest space/storage/stuff issue. Finishing a Peter Shandy mystery. It's unfortunate tthat there will be no more books from Charlotte Macleod. Contemplating one more year of mystery shopping, etc. Do I really want to do this? Is it the right time to explore an available, very part-time job that utilizes dormant skills?
