I don't really celebrate birthdays either. I consider it like celebrating the Easter Bunny or Santa Clause - it's for kids. Which means I don't make purchases just because a date arrived. I buy things when we need them. I'd rather celebrate accomplishments. (A date is not an accomplishment) smiling smiley
Oh it isn't so much about buying things although I will often allow it to be a reason to treat myself with dessert at dinner. But I do spend my days with kids -- so many kids and my grandmother's birthday was my half birthday and she always made a big deal of me being my age and a half so I do it in memory of her.
You are honoring your grandmother and being good to you. I like it! Mind you, I do not do much with birthdays except consider them an anniversary. New Year's to New Year's, Spring to Spring, birthday to birthday, etc.

I sometimes commemorate dead people by giving their names a place. here, I have mentioned some anniversaries of Mozart and Corrie ten Boom.

Prepping for a road trip at the end of the week which means cleaning the car, cleaning the house and doing all of the laundry. But it is a beautiful day so will take the dog to the dog park and find some human friends for me to hang out with. I have one shop to do this afternoon. Kept it light since it will be a busy week. My daughter is graduating college next week.. I can't even believe it!

I know my students say the same thing to me...
Buy whatever you want, celebrate in what ever fashion you enjoy. Happy half birthday to you and happy birthday to your Grandmama!

Driving home from skiing. Last ski of the season yesterday☹️
Stopped to watch Grandson practice baseball, then ump his first game.
Finished one book and started another. Dusted one room and walked outdoors as much as cool, breezy weather permitted. Might have lost two more pounds; will verify tomorrow on medical scale. Either way, it is official. I have lost 104 pounds.

Congrats Shop-et-al! That is great. What is you best weight loss tip. I'm kinda stuck.
I don't make a big deal about my birthday either. But it does feel nice to be celebrated and thought about.... As it does to celebrate others.
@Shopper797: I have no tips. This can only be a G thing. I do nothing in particular. G is being kind to me. Meanwhile, I will hold good thoughts for you *coughcoughpray* for your journey. Good luck!

@SEA, way to go!

Today I'm gonna go browse through several thrift stores....Tuesday is one thrift store's brand 25% off day for seniors! I don't even know what I'll be looking for....guess I'll know it when and if I see it!!
Two of my three children had summer birthdays (and so no school classmate kudos), so we started making a big deal out of their half birthday...they brought treats to share. At home our tradition was to do something nice for someone else. Since it was a day of celebration with no presents it made sense to give instead of receive.

Somewhere along the way the tradition died, and I hadn't thought about it for years until Grandson #1 talked about having his half birthday on Easter.

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor Roosevelt
Yesterday and today I've been putting away winter and getting out summer. Cool-weather clothes are boxed up and put in the closet. Lightweight winter coat and jackets are washed and hung up properly in coat closet. Half of the blankets and throws have been cleaned and stored, and the rest will soon be done. I took my heavy coat to the dry cleaner today, will pick it up on Friday, and stash it in the closet until next fall.

Hubby had to ride his motorbike home in the threatening rain. I followed him. Stopped once for 20 minutes to wait out some rain.
He arrived home, mostly dry.
Was advised to limit walking to 5,000 steps or less per day until legs are healed. Must have stressed my legs with too much walking when I should have been elevating my legs during some of that time. Live and learn.

In the fun part of the day I started a biography that includes some history and found an Elisabeth Elliot book that I had misplaced. Huzzah!

Sounds like a lovely day @maverick1

Getting new floor in bedroom today. Hope it looks as nice as I anticipated when I selected it.
A lot to do before flooring guy arrives.

Errands became one errand, a slew of apologies, and a madcap re-working of the June budget. Again, for the umpteenth month in a row, hubby did not pay even one cent of the small amount that he should be able to pay each month. But in the fun part of the day legs feel better, sun is shining, good books are nurturing me, good music is playing, and hope springeth eternal (or something like that).

It is time for a walk in the perfect temperature and for leg exercises.

Perfect day, so far. Rainy and cool. The only challenge is deciding which book to read next. I am thinking John Bevere. But there are so many worthy ones!

Thinking what to do while floor guy is here.
Thinking fresh cookies might be offered everywhere. A person trying to be healthy and strong might not appreciate. I can't think of a healthy snack with what I have on hand.

Just get out of the way and do yard work maybe.
Another cool, wet day. Pearl S. Buck book. Just enough house tasks to make me get up and move around instead of burrowing under the summer blankie and savoring the perfect reading day. smiling smiley

Clean house. Make lunch for a friend and go for a walk with her.
Paint where flooring guy banged the wall.

Hubby will start putting on baseboards and we can start moving stuff back into bedroom.
I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but in my area, today is the day that the Post Office picks up bags of food left by postal customers to help fight hunger. So I left a bag of several non-perishables outside on a hook by the mailbox. I do this every year. What saddens me is that I don't believe anyone else on my cul-de-sac street of 21 homes has EVER put out anything, as far as I can recall. And we all get a postcard a few days before the pick up.
