What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

My trip to Aldi's was a bust. I didn't buy anything fun. I have a load of laundry in the dryer and the dishwasher is somewhat empty. I'm going to use the food processor (finally) to chop up some dated veggies for stock.

I spent basically the whole 3-day weekend watching live professional beach volleyball online from Long Beach. Other than NASCAR and Golf, I don't think that there are many professional sports happening right now.
My son worked the event and had court-side access the whole time. I caught him on camera a few times.
I miss coaching. sad smiley

Work. Projects. More of book. New-to-me workout. Wonder out loud: what sport did SoCalMama coach?

I think that I am finally ready to try to get that pedicure. Aldi is near there, so will stop in to see if they finally have the sour dough bread back in stock. Make chicken salad. Big kitchen clean-up. Make eye doc appt.

Our electricity went out about 8 pm last night. Discovered I couldn't find candles and most of the flashlights were burnt out. Put both items on my list to replenish today.

Kathy,
Is your power back on ? This heat wave is really dangerous.

Yes. We opened the windows when we went to bed, and at 11:00 I heard the air conditioner compressor kick on. The whole thing lasted about four hours.

The storm that went through last night broke our heat wave for a couple of days. Now it's only going to be "normal" July hot in the low 90s.

Today I will be doing laundry.....after the water company fixes the leaking street pipe up the street and restores our water pressure to normal. Also hubby & i will be giving the dog a bath in a little while. I also need to vacuum our above ground pool. Got to get all these done today before I head up to my son's tomorrow, for a few days visit. Will be great to see those grandbabies!!
Glad to hear that update. The DMV area continues to have hazardous heat conditions, probably for the rest of this week, and beyond.

I made a cucumber salad this morning. Instead of chopping the cucumber, I grated then salted it. Almost a full cup of water leached out, but none of the salt.

Worst salad ever! Grating turned it into a mushy mess. The salt made it inedible.

A mushy mess of grated cucumber almost sounds like a base for dip or spread.

I remember a long-ago recipe with sliced cucumber, vinegar, little sugar, sliced red onion, and... ????? It was tart! And cool! And fresh! I do not remember salt. So away I go down memory lane and to search passed-down recipes...

SEL, I make this salad with cucumbers, onions or shallots and whatever raw vegetables I have on hand that pair with cucumbers.

The dressing is made with chili paste, fish sauce, lime juice and sesame oil.

It's delicious when I chop everything. Grating cukes and shallots was a lesson learned.

ETA: the salt was to extract the excess water from the cucumber.

I decided that going out for a pedicure was not in the cards yesterday. All local jurisdictions are strongly considering new shutdowns due to surging infection rates. Spending 45 minutes in one interior space, within 6 feet of someone, , even masked, is not a good idea right now, IMHO.

Nightmare: car auto parts recall....

I have pink eye or a sinus infection...or COVID. Past 4 days massive eye-ball pain (like someone stuck needles in them). Upper nose pain too. Pain killers don't help. Might be nerve pain, which needs a narcotic. Will see about a doctor's appointment.

Freezer chest died. 100 lbs of food spoiled now? Going out in a few minutes to throw away some of our food....

Other car's engine is busted. Piece of garbage. Thankfully, one car is new and running well.

It's like a cluster of bad luck stuff hit at once.

wales when I got my nails done, there were barriers set up between the customers and the technicians. Customers were spread out. This didn't apply to the eyebrow stations.

Go to your favorite place and see what the layout is like. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Sometimes I think this forum needs multiple reaction buttons like Facebook. This post is worthy of a 'sad'.

Good luck.

Lots of berries, but the terrain was too hard to get at them.

Today was crazy hot. 100 degrees. Threw out a bunch of near-spoiled food. Thankfully salvaged some too.

Feels bad for those who have to work in this heat.
I have an 8am appointment to get my muffler replaced.

That is tragic to have to throw that out.

Day Four of enumerating a large university housing apartment complex. Since it wasn't done in April when classes were in session, there has to be three attempts to find a resident at home before it can be marked as Not Available.

Work. Nap. Be gentle with hubby, who is making so much progress. He now identifies the emotional blackmail (and other tricks & tactics)... and says, "No!"

@Shop-et-al.. I learned this recipe from grandma. She adds grated cucumber to yogurt that is beaten. She spices it up with roasted cumin powder, salt and pepper. S and P works just fine too. It's like a side dish for rice or just something after a hot and spicy meal to prevent acidity.
Honny,
Thank you. Tomorrow, before it gets too hot, I will go to my local nail salon and see what safety measures are in place. I am tired of tripping over my toenails.

I can relate shoptastic. The last month the A/C in my car broke, my fridge and dryer stopped working. Fortunately I had a smaller fridge so food loss was minimal. I have a kind sister who lets me use her dryer until I can find a good used one. The A/C in my car costs 2700.00, its an Altima. I have about half of that from the stimulus, so I'm trying to save, and it's hard since my mystery shopping is income is less than half of what it was pre COVID. South TX temps have been plus 100 every day. On the plus side I think it's helping me lose weight.
The Good: My car now has a muffler.

The Bad: I had to be there at 8am and I am exhausted.

The Ugly: It's raining cats and dogs and I have ro drive home.

Please let us know you got home safely. I am about 10 miles NW of you and we had terrific winds here. I thought that a tree taller than my house was about to come down right through my living room window. But then, the wind just stopped and I was able to watch the storm system move east on the WA Post weather cam. Power is out at a whole lot of places within a 50 mile radius, but still on here.Storm now almost out over the Chesapeake Bay.
