Everyone seems very productive today! I hunted and gathered and met with the contractor, made a final decision on the countertops and everything is good to go. They arrive Thursday to get started on the subfloors. Hopefully thursday I will be getting a new mini-van as well.
Did you go with the plain white marble?

Irene, hope you have a great celebration planned with a meal you don't have to cook yourself!

Thx...eating out for four days....got several free desserts, and although I don't eat sweets, am going for it....

Yes. It's not marble, it's an acrylic. It looks more like quartz but without the high price tag. I'll need to win the lottery before I can have marble.

Today I'm cleaning out my Honda so we can sell it. Then I'll clean out the truck. The plan is to sell two old vehicles and buy one new one. We will save more than $40 per month in insurance, and the Honda is almost at $100k miles so we will save the repair and upkeep bills on that as well. It's been a fantastic car and I'm probably going to miss it just a little.
My mom is on vacation this week so I will go to her house and spend some time with her. I have a Papa Johns shop today so I can treat her to pizza.
Yay lucky mom. Have a great day!

I am hopefully making cookies today. If I didn't have to go to work tonight I would spike a latte.

BTW, does anyone here have an Instant Pot? It's like a pressure cooker, rice steamer, slow cooker, yogurt maker all in one. It can also bake and saute. I see recipes using them all around the web and especially on some food blogs I like, and I finally bought one. It is coming Friday. I'm so excited. My parents anniversary was this week (52 years) and I made a ham (from Trader Joe's) and had cheesy scalloped potatoes and green beans with it. I want to use the ham bone and make split pea soup in my new Instant Pot.

I've been wondering if instant pots were awesome. I have a rice cooker that i use all the time, and a nice slow cooker. Do I need one? Let me know how you like it.
I use my inexpensive slow cooker for many things...making soup nice and thick works. Tri-tip and black beans which I make into taco's or just eat, so good, brings out flavor and meat falls off the bone....enjoy!!

Starting to think about a huge bucket list trip for 2019: Switzerland! My maternal ancestors emigrated in 1848. Some of the family still farms in the area that they left.

But the real bucket list stuff is riding Swiss trains, including the Glacier Express and the Benina Express. This will not be cheap, so I have only a very low cost US vacation planned for 2018.

It has been said that my middle name is "Logistics" so I spent much of today playing on line with Swiss Rails sites, Trip Advisor and AirBnB sites, as well as looking for the best air hubs to use to keep flight costs (and duration) down to a minimum, while awaiting tomorrow's arrival of Rick Steves' Switzerland guide.

lol...I don't know if I "need" one but I've been intrigued by it for a long time. I have a slow cooker. I do not have a rice cooker. One of the things I will like about it is the saute function. Some recipes recommend that you brown meat or saute veggies first before you add them to slow cooker, which requires dirtying a pan for the stove. This will save a step whether I use the pressure cooker or slow cooker function. The one I got also bakes. My oven is not that big. You can put a turkey in it but nothing else with it. Sometimes I would like an extra slow cooker or something else that will bake. I will let you know how I like it.

I don't know how I ever got by without a rice cooker. I got it for 5$ at a Walgreens in a Christmas sale once about 10 years ago. It takes all the guesswork out for perfect rice every time. Even brown rice. I have a double oven and a huge crock pot so I probably won't need an instant pot. I've made it this far without a Keurig too. Of course I remain interested LOL.

Wales that sounds like a trip of a lifetime, especially with this long to plan it. Sounds like planning will bring it's own enjoyment.
I didn't think I needed a rice cooker until I received one as a gift. Now I don't know what I would do without it. The only problem is that it mustn't have very many watts, because it cooks SO slow...longer than it would to do it on the stove. One of these days I'm going to buck up and buy a better one.

I did some demos for Keurig so I had 3 of them at one point, but I gave two away. I also had a ton of demo supplies leftover (including pods). It also came with the refillable pod so you can use your own coffee. Those pods are a big waste of money and of course they are not recyclable, either.

I have a rice cooker that I never use.
Changed my cooking plan into a three-day picnic and mini-marathon. Obviously, this is not quite dinner and a movie. It is the hubby's choice of picnic foods and my choice of absurd. I found the Fractured Fairy Tales on Youtube and will watch some of those in between little tasks at home. This will be a silly weekend. lol!

OMG it's happening, my wife has put a deposit on a new mini van and is working on a rental car to go pick it up for me. I am amazed at how lucky and blessed I am. I would be even without a new car, but it gives me so much peace of mind with all the driving i do.
I LOVE Fractured Fairy Tales! They don't make 'em like that anymore. Enjoy.

Today I went to the doctor for a follow up appointment on blood work I had done a couple of weeks ago and found out my ferritin iron levels are low. Now my lack of energy the past month makes sense. Went to the drug store and picked up some iron supplements to start taking tomorrow.

Grocery shopping and getting the last of the trip planning done. Got my drone case in today so now I can take it with me and I got my new case for my DVRs. New luggage came in yesterday. Tomorrow is packing, doing some last minute planning, and picking up a few filler shops for the first week.

Today is all about the template. I am making my own "health/life/nutrition" tracker. I noticed that many forms contain more or fewer topics than I need, so I am just tailoring the excellent concept for myself. I will use paper and pencil format because...

... I am also starting something new: curtailing my use of all devices at least three hours before sleep. This will be wonderful, once I become accustomed to it. It will be like living waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the last century when there were no devices. I am just the right age now to compare life with and without devices. For me, there are implications for sleep itself and as this relates to other aspects of life. I do not recommend this for any other person.

I do not have a home line any longer and do not take my cell upstairs, turning it off around 9ish. Figure, they'll leave a message.....think it wise to take stress away especially at night, home time is for you to relax. No kids around to worry about...smiling smiley

There are actually numerous studies about the adverse impact of devices on sleep cycles. Anyone who uses theirs late into the evening and has issues sleeping should try turning them off earlier to see what happens. If they are the culprit, you will probably notice a difference relatively quickly.
