What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

That was it, but I could have done without the visual.

I heard from New Guy. Sports...need I say more?

He's neck deep in whatever game is on now. That's fine because I have homework due tomorrow. Neither of us needs the distraction.

I am going back to the grocery store today.

My non-driving housemate and I go there together, usually. We have a routine. When I have checked out I take my cart out to the store front and leave it there. I bring the car to that area and wait for her. When she arrives she loads her groceries and mine. Yesterday, I could not park close to my cart and she was delayed checking out . When we got home I noticed that my groceries were not in the car. She told me that she had assumed that, since I was getting only 3 small items, I had loaded my bag earlier. All that she had seen when she emerged was empty carts.

We called the store because they are great about taking carts with groceries inside for safe-keeping in cases where people seem to have left without their stuff. Nope, no groceries. However, because I had my grocery rewards card scanned at checkout, they will supply free replacements. I was able to estimate the time that my groceries went missing and they will be reviewing the security video.

It is cold and people are desperate at this time of the year.

I might have chortled too soon about the contact lenses. My lenses are stuck. i have tried everything except: contact lens suction cup which I can order online; plastic-tipped tweezers which I can order online; and Q-tips soaked in product. If my lenses can be re-hydrated, I can try the Q-tip trick soon-ish. *sigh* I suppose I could do a saline flush and make them float away? Urgent care/weekend care might have some other little trick? Fortunately, I saw one pair of eyeglass frames that I could live with (if this contact lens thing fizzles). What I really want is eye technology that does not exist yet... oh, well...

If all goes well, we will complete all family obligations on Wednesday. Then, the rest of the year is for our individual projects. yay.

shop-et-al....I had Laser eye surgery (not really surgery) on the pressure of my eye, and it works, no more drops that dry out your eyes...ask your Dr. about it, it's been a miracle for me, why I even see the color of my eyes now, still green after all these years.

One last day of pool, beach, drinks and sunshine. Packing tonight and leaving for home in the morning. sad smiley
Today is Do The Boring Stuff Day. Change the bedroom linens, muck out the fridge, scrub down the bathroom tub and sinks, wash the towels, blah, blah, blah. Fortunately, tomorrow has been designated as Lay Around Doing Nothing Day.
Thank you, Irene. I want that type of change, but the docs say it is not yet time.

I volunteered at the food bank this morning. The county's public safety office dropped off chicken dinner baskets and I helped distribute those. A set of church ladies distributed the toys for Christmas. One of the grocery stores donated a ton of lunchmeat and recipients went crazy. It was a busy, fulfilling morning.

Early job seemed endless today, but at last I am at home and doing other things. Thing one? Donate clothes that are too big for me now. Thing two? Load stuff that is going back to storage.

A snow storm that was supposed to be 'major' ended up not so much. We got a couple of inches of snow, but based on the forecast I hunkered down in the house. Read, ate too much, fiddled on the computer, and generally wasted time.

JAS, welcome back! And thank you for the updates!

More winter weather today. The sidewalk looked clean, but when I stepped outside I found out it was covered with ice. Now snow is falling. Depending on the weather model it will be somewhere between three and seven inches. All the things I planned on doing today required a trip out of the house (which ain't gonna happen), so I'm recalibrating what my day will look like.

Cold weather, will stay in and pack, discarding yet another slew of things...then, a nice lunch at The Habit, good food, close to home and no cooking.

Irene,
Just curious as to where you plan to move once the house sale closes and you have not decided to make a permanent move ??

Wales....after much thought, not moving to Chicago, but the Valley (Encino). I spent much of my time in L.A. in Calabasas and have friends there to do things with, and I am tired of being away from them due to my not wanting to drive freeways, also easier for our daughter to visit more often since myself and her Dad will be closer. There is a lot to do there, the subs was never for me, but did enjoy house. Getting a small place. my tri-level is getting to be too much....so staying in L.A.

Sounds like a great plan, Irene.

I, too, have a 3 level house. So far, I have been able to adapt it well for AIP living. Added a washer/dryer unit in the kitchen, so no more trekking to the basement for laundry. Added a handrail to the front stoop steps. With any luck, I am still a long way from needing a stair-lift, lol.

Even with today's light snowfall, local teens showed up to offer to clean my car, etc, to make a few $$$. Same teens do some of the heavier garden tasks in summer.

So, New Guy has been MIA for stupid reasons. I'm done. It was nice to have someone to think about for a minute.

Irene, my alumni group had a function in Encino. The houses there are stunning!

I had to reschedule today's planned shops because my back is acting up. Just getting in and out of the car is very tough this morning. So, some Ibuprofen and some gentle moving around the house are in order. I know from long experience that dealing with back spasms early can make a huge difference and I expect to be back on the road for a few shops tomorrow. Today.... Minor kitchen clean-up; more laundry; making routine medical appointments for January; paying bills and doing January budget. . Maybe a nap, or at least some horizontal time with legs elevated.

My old stomping grounds, my best friend lives in the hills in Encino, but I'll be in a 55+ place, not buying, am done, but do love the city, everything is there, including friends, ex (we are friends).
Sorry about the guy, keep your eyes open, and see if he asks you out for New Years.

Work. Nap. Listening to hubby's side of convo with mil; this is always interesting. I only want to know if/when she would like us to visit her. Perhaps in an hour or three they will get around to that topic grinning smiley

So I scrolled through a list of things, places, and concepts that are going away for everyone because some Millennial peeps do not like them or want them. For a few entries, I was a Millennial before my time. I do not care about large cruise ships or immersive hotel experiences. I am happy to buy clothing & things ranging from legally free to Macy's preferably on sale prices. You can generously include real, really expensive things in your donations to the thrift stores where I shop (hint, hint). Otherwise, I would like to carry on my preferred way and ways. Who but a Millennial who lives in a device and probably alone could argue with the economics of buying tp in bulk and sharing it with other households?! Oh, well...grinning smiley

Packing my bag in anticipation of tomorrow's flight into San Jose. While there I will get some quality time with 3-year old and 5-month old grand babies, who I haven't seen in person since July.

Bring warm clothes, we are having a very cold winter...enjoy.

Irene, I'm giggling at your comment. The San Jose forecast calls for highs in the upper 50s and lows in the mid 40s...today in my area it's struggling to get above freezing, and tonight it will dip down into the high teens. I'm looking forward to some NICE weather!

I deposited an $18 MS check by remote deposit yesterday. A QC error came up and the check was $36. Time for new glasses!

Honny,
Costco has glasses and frames (really nice ones!) at a fraction of the prices found elsewhere.
