What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Happy New Year's shoppers!

Today, I went to a New Year's service at a nearby church that I started going to.

I'm watching The Mummer's Parade on TV. The Mummer's Parade is held in Philadelphia every year on New Year's Day. Different neighborhoods in Philly each focus on a theme and wear elaborate costumes. It's very entertaining.

I soaked my beans last night. Today, I tried making refried beans with them. Epic fail.

Went to my church this morning, followed by a trip to our local bar/restaurant for brunch with friends. Now my wife and I are back home and just watching TV.

Shop-et-al I woke up under the weather, too. I had a headache that feels like a hangover (but had NO alcohol last night). I get up and move around for 15-20 minutes, then sit back on the couch to fiddle on my computer and snooze. Not happy about the situation, but the cat's in heaven to have an almost-permanent lap.

Alcohol-free here, too. I was too sick to sleep on New Year's Eve, which is what I usually do. Then, I was so sleepy that I barely made it through the early morning job. On the plus side, I was armed with a big ol' bottle of Pepto. That has helped.

Love the part about the cat! grinning smiley

Lost a pound yesterday, so will continue with light eating.....

Hanging out with my granddaughter!

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I took advantage of my insomnia and did a shop at 4am at WaWa. I'm still getting settled into my house. I bought a bed frame from Amazon, and I put that together for the guest room.

Worked the regular job and will be continuing taking down Christmas decorations and tree.
Cleaned house and worked on my earnings figures for 2018. I learned some interesting things. Now, I am a purely part-time shopper, so I don't earn anywhere near what most shoppers on this forum earn. I'm just a bit under $3k for the year, which works for me. But looking everything over, I saw that I did jobs for 20 different companies, mostly MSing but some merchandising as well. Trendsource was my largest source of income, at just around 22%. Harland Clarke came in second, at just over 6%. That surprised me, because I only did 2 jobs for them, but they were both bonused! IPSOS, MF and RBG had the next highest percentages at somewhere over 5% each. Then just a few odd jobs here and there for the rest of the companies, coming in anywhere and.05% up to 2 or 3%. It was interesting for me to find this out. And I'm grateful for spreadsheets that do most of the dirty work figuring all this out!!

I did a Goodwill shop today. I bought two required items. They were a pair of Calvin Klein slacks and a very pretty printed top. I don't know that designer. Both items were fully reimbursed by the MSC. I love that!

After that was a made to order pizza shop. I over did it on the garlic. I had one slice at lunch and I still reek.

Up early, as I always should be. I did house tasks, budgets, and projects. Soon, I will do the early morning job. Later, I have the other job.

Tomorrow I have a meeting another forum member who has asked me to to share what I have learned over 35 years of finding good housemates and avoiding bad ones. So, I will be preparing a sample house-sharing agreement and making a list of "stuff to remember/consider." Then, a trip to Macy's to collect and ordered item, staring a slow cooker with chuck pot roast, a little kitchen duty, and continuing the online research to find a new primary doctor.

Wales, I should join you as my first time renter has been with me a year (this month). I have a good vibe about people, and he is a doll....someone was watching over me and I trusted my judgement. Clean, quite and most important (for me) never goes into my kitchen...and is gone weekends. I printed out an agreement found on the computer.

Today brings a Jack in the box and doing whatever needs be done to prepare for my lunch date tomorrow on the water in Ventura Harbor....oy vey, just going where life takes me....

The main flash-points in house sharing seem to be over parking, kitchen clean-up, noise, pets, and privacy/space issues. If you work those out from the get-go, or have options (like my house having 2 kitchens and 3.5 baths) and assigned parking for 2 vehicles) most of what is left is just personalities and trustworthiness, IMHO.

I agree, having a huge 2 car garage helps, as he has a new car and wanted a garage. My renter eats at his sisters or goes out and doesn't get back until 10ish, his work hours are 11 to 7:00 PM, works all day, very respectful as I don't allow over nighters, he stays with his girlfriend at her place on Sat. and no smoking, or pets he is so clean...it just works out, I did get lucky.

@walesmaven and irene: As I was reading your informative conversation, i had a flashback to Sheldon Cooper and his Roommate Agreements. Oh, my! It is good that you have a better way. grinning smiley

Just got pic's of daughter and boyfriend in Cancun and Mexico, so cute, just thrilled,,,with bad news comes good news, isn't life unpredictable? Gotta love phone technology, clear as a bell, and made Mom happy.

I am going to declutter, clean and organize the whole house. Then paint the bathrooms. LOL Oh and chop away the ice on the driveway. And work out.

I wonder if I could find a mystery shop to take me away from all this. So far I have watched The Shopping Channel and Big Bang.

Meeting another forum member for lunch. This is a first meet-up for us. I really like meeting other MSers and having a bit of shop talk in person.

On hold for furlough unemployment. 49 callers are ahead of me.

Got my library card re-issued, since I lost my other one. Cost $1.00 due to losing it, but it's worth it for all the services they offer. Bought 2 boxes of rock salt, because there's a chance we could get some snow or ice this coming weekend, here in the Upstate of SC. I hope it passes us by!!
I hope you eventually got through!
Hubby is in the same boat as you. In our state he must apply for three jobs each week. He has no desire to get a new employer, so he's trying to pick jobs that he has no hope of getting (i.e., a Controller or CFO). And then when the unemployment starts rolling in he has to keep good records because if Congress authorizes back payment all of the unemployment will have to be returned :-)

In the meantime, today he woke up and wanted to know what 'we' were doing today. I told him I knew what *I* was doing, but he was on his own.

The temperature was pushing 70 degrees today, so I took a long walk.

I had a Newcomers broad meeting which is a good luch and friendship basely. Not to much business most months.
I got through after an hour. The rep was in training, so it went slowly...very slow.

Using Freecycle, I am getting some much needed hangers tomorrow.
