What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Well, I could grow, forage and preserve all my food, not just some of it. I'd be a vegetarian if I had to do depend on my own skills. LoL
I could sew/ create all my own clothes.
I do paint the interior walls of the house, but I'm thinking of paying to have the main area done. I've never mastered a nice edge between the wall and ceiling.

Hubby is a real handyman, car stuff, carpentry, plumbing, wiring, fixit. Now, none of this was learned from the education system. One room country school house in the 50s. (Academics only)
And not much from his father who died when he was a kid. He grew up with an outhouse so no plumbing, and he remembers the day they got electricity to their one lightbulb hanging from the ceiling.
The education system provided him with the reading/thinking skills to manage money and to learn the rest as he desired.

I can attribute some of my sewing and cooking skills to taking Home-ec at school. The academics provided me with several options to further my education to earn enough for financial independence even as a single mother.

prince, Have you ever watched the movie Wreck-It Ralph? There's a character named Fit-It Felix. I couldn't help but think of him when you said fix-it! Sometimes, that exact word is used in my line of work to fix bugs in software.

I remember having good teachers during school. But during the middle of senior year after getting accepted to my first choice of college/university, I took all fun electives the last semester. We had a class like Home Ec. It was fun to see how others went about the projects and being around classmates I wasn't usually in the same classes with before. Recently though, I attribute some my cooking success to YouTube and other successes to Reddit!
@prince. Yep, those Valentine projects were finished in less than 20-25 min. And the time did get shorter with each period. I had to give them the coloring sheets that their teacher had left to pass the time. They were all so bored and the happiest were the second and first graders who decided they could make more hearts to give mom and dad. I wonder when does this innocence leave them and at exactly what point do they become such meanies. I wonder if our teachers felt like this about us. Though, we grew up in a very strict school system. Here, we "allow" the kids to chat, while in my time it was "pin-drop" silence.
Did I just type...in my time..I m getting old!
home cleaning, online shopping
& making homemade turkey rice soup
I had the leftover Thanksgiving turkey carcass in the freezer, thawed it yesterday
chopping veggies, making broth
This will make some dirt cheap meals...hopefully tasty.
Learning to knit socks. Ignoring hockey on TV.
So happy I'm not working for 6 days. I'd love to stay home for 6 days but likely have to do something in that time.

I subbed for 3rd grade. Right in the first period, we had an announcement asking teachers to keep students in the class and not let them out for any reason. Soon, I saw police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. The kids started panicking but the office wouldn't tell us what was going on. I even started looking for the escape window and figuring out how safe it would be to jump from there. Thankfully, it was just a kindergarten teacher who was sick and had to be taken to the hospital.
BTW, what are you guys doing for V Day?
My girlfriend and I celebrated Valentine's last week. We had a small meal downtown during the day and walked around when the weather was warmer and nicer.

Work has been getting hectic. On our team, we have one team member leaving, but not planning to backfill the position for months. Another team member planning to take maternity/paternity leave. Our top team member is getting pulled off our team to work on a new product. A lot of musical chairs and a domino effect. I got a big project now to take over permanently. It's good for growth, but a ton of work that I wasn't expecting!
I'm glad that it wasn't anything more serious @mum.
Those training modules we have to do online are a bit disturbing! Glad I've only had drills at school.
Other than years ago when we were "locked down" due to bears in the school yard.

Teacher's Convention here and I choose not to go, so days off for me.

Valentine's we'll cook a nice meal and have a nice wine and watch something other than hockey. Old and boring.
Hubby did buy me flowers while in town yesterday. I forgot to buy the locally made candy I was going to buy for him.

My husband got card and flowers for me. He is cooking tonight so it will be pizza.
Subbed for 4th grade today and room parents came after recess to host a Valentine's Party for kids. I might sound like Crankenstein but I truly hate what this holiday has become. The whole room looked like Dollar Tree came and threw up! 4th graders having inappropriate conversations about their "love life"??
Those single package plastic thingies will go the landfill the next day. Gestures of love and kindness have been replaced by consumerism.

After the elementary school "dance" I was at last year, I made it clear I was not coming again!
Aside from all the garbage produced, it was just wild!
I'm worried about my niece, at times. Kids seem to be growing up faster these days and exposed to more stuff.

Quick errand at the mall. It was packed! Looking forward to President's Day (US Holiday) on Mon.
I don't do "holidays" on calendars just because someone(s) made it a "day."

I did however, place some days on the calendar that I plan to take my spouse to Venice. Flights and lodging are booked!
Ice skating today. Hubby wants to work gradually on fitness after 4 weeks of restrictions due to a medical procedure.
I had no such restrictions but have just been a hibernating sloth. grinning smiley
So, it will be good for me also.
Felt like a productive morning today. For the car I drive less often and keep outside, bought two new tires at a local tire shop. President's Day sale is usually for full set for tires, but the salesperson gave me the prorated deal for two tires. I'm going to be organized and keep a log of service done on the vehicle, and make today's entry now, before doing anything else!

Got in and out quickly, but towards the end, saw a line of cars for air pressure check. Some person was holding up the line, arguing with an associate about a flat tire. Wouldn't move the car and caused a bottleneck. Glad that I was able to avoid that mess.
Trying to convince Hubby to go skating. It's so cold he doesn't even want to go out and start the car grinning smiley
Preschool today.
Buses weren't running and only 3 people brought their tots to school. Some classes had plenty.
Easiest day in a long time for me. Other than gauges on the car giving me worrisome messages.
Now, it's warming up.

Tomorrow dentist, and a ladies who lunch kind of day. smiling smiley
Passed eye exam today without studying! smiling smiley Rx hardly changed. No need to get new glasses. Winning!
I opt for the year supply of contacts. My plan covers it along with a small copay for exam. Even after taking into account the premiums, it's a good return.
I'm making a packing list and getting ready for my long trip....5 weeks of travel to where I can find warmer weather and blue ocean.
I usually take at least one long trip every year, but last year I was taking care of my mom and didn't want to leave in case she got worse....turned out to be a wise decision.
So, I am so overdue and not only that but my toes are cold.

Snow removal from the part of the driveway where we park our vehicles. Actually packed ice removal as I haven't kept up.
What melted and froze yesterday is treacherous!
Reading The Nightengale by Kristin Hannah for Bookclub.

Sounds nice. Enjoy! Don't think of us slaving away at mysterious work. smiling smiley
Thanks....part of the trip will involve driving, so I will likely do some easy MS shops on the highway, but not many. I just need to get away lol.
