What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I walked up to the grocery store to deposit a check in the bank ATM. On the way home I saw a membership card for a fraternal organization on the side of the road. I picked it up and saw another card. A couple of minutes later I had gathered a man's wallet, his driver's license, a couple of charge/debit cards, a little money, and extra 'stuff'. I determined from the license the man lived around the corner from me. I figured the safest thing to do would be to backtrack a quarter mile to turn it in at the police office. There I asked for a piece of paper then wrote a note to the man telling him where to find his things. Walked back past my condo and to his townhouse. He wasn't home, but his neighbor said that instead of me putting the note in the mailbox she would tape it to the door.

I finally finished painting the living room and removed most of the tape. It looks so nice! I even painted the outlet covers. There are a few accident areas where the roller touched the wall and a few drips on the baseboard. It looks nice overall. I'm proud of my work!

Waiting on the AT&T tech to get here to determine WHY my internet has been DOWN FOR 12 DAYS NOW!! For the last two years, this has happened once each year. Turns out, there is a main box about 1.5 miles from me that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY some technician seems to "accidentally" disconnect a wire to MY internet in order to fix someone else's internet!! Sheesh!! Anyhow, the tech will be here soon and I am hoping it is what I think it is. I have been using my phone's hotspot for my internet connection in the meantime. And, oh yeah, I got a nice credit to my bill for being without internet and home phone for 12 days!!
I have American Chop Suey in the oven. My Mom made this when we were kids. I used onions, celery and garlic, leftover vodka sauce and leftover peas. I used fresh oregano and basil from the windowsill garden.

It smells so good!

Another free day. As of today, free means working out, working on an at-home gig, doing just a few home tasks, venturing forth into pro nail world for just a nail trim (because I have Cinderella step-sister feet for which no dainty glass slippers have been invented yet and will not earn wages with which to buy the full pedi), and reading the oddest news... botched butt implants [what? I could share both from my ample supply and in the butt enhancement gravy train!] and other scintillating tidbits.

Went to a members-only tour of an exhibit at the history museum. It was called St. Louis Sound, and had artifacts from many music notables from the area (from the Jazz Age up til today).

Need to go back to the talking head job. Am croaking like a frog. Would look like a Vanilla Ice wanna be there. Alas. So I will spend too much time looking for gigs that might offset lost wages and not enough time on other things. Oh, well

Had a nice, leisurely 3 hour lunch with my best friend at Panera today. They give senior discounts, did y'all know that??? But you have to ask for it! Oh....and their Autumn Squash Soup is on the menu, which is what I had, WOO-HOO!

Today I will be mopping up chores remaining from a 3 day MS road trip, paying bills, and reorganizing what is left of my MS EOQ schedule due to local flash floods that have closed many roads here. We are getting the leftover heavy rains and windy, thundery weather from a couple of tropical storms. It is, literally, a very dark day here. BUT, the power is back on.

Art imitates life, or life imitates art. Someone said something about that. Just now, I am reading what could be the inspiration or blueprint for a vexing thing in my world. Weird, or prophetic, or useful? Just grateful that I found it now and can understand someone who otherwise would only have been considered a never-ending pestilence. Now, it is easier to see them through a larger lens and find a little kindness for them and their situation.

Hubby and I worked our way through most of a chapter of our city scavenger hunt book, stopped for lunch at a new food hall, then hit of a local gas station chain to get cheap drinks because the Cardinals baseball team scored more than six runs last night.

I set my big plants (spider, dragon, pothos, coleus) outside for a drink. I also placed a pan outside to collect rainwater. I put the small and large succulents in that.

I might visit my parents this weekend.

No certain plans. The actual events of the day depend upon whether we stay in town or must go out of town. Either way, it is a good day. Amid tragedy, hubby is gobbling up every available tidbit about the Petito-Laundrie situation. There is so much information! Probably less than one percent of it is relevant to the facts of the matter. The rest is (I surmise) fueled by actual investigators posing as armchair detectives. Think they are tossing out ideas that others can jaw on and eventually yield facts or eliminate hypotheses. In a perfect world, the solution would appear instantaneously, no one would need to spend all this time wondering whodunit, and the healing process would be unhindered. In this world, the nub of the case is tragic. Perhaps the families and friends can find some peace as time passes, murkiness dissipates, and clarity emerges. I will keep them in mind and heart.

Do something with the corn from garden.
Make lasagna with giant zucchini I got from post office. Should take some carrots to leave at post office
Laundry when Hubby get home with stinky hockey clothes. Hope breeze keeps up.
Other household/garden tasks.
Walk, run or cycle.
Hubby was interested in the electric bike shop I was doing today, so I got permission for him to go with me. The store is right along a greenway, and the weather was nice, so we actually rode our current bikes there. We got to take a test drive on an e-bike, and now we both want one!

Went apple picking today. Weather was glorious. We got about 15 pounds of Jonathan and Empire apples. My daughter is into jam these days. She is always watching jam and cake recipes. The other day, she asked me to make strawberry jam so I used some of the frozen ones we had. Now, she wants apple jam, apple coconut fudge and Lord knows what's next on her list! The other part of the day was spent at a playground near the lake. I had a blast since I shamelessly climbed all those ropes, ladders, and slides. The other moms were probably thinking I was bat-crazy.
Just self-assigned 16 October parking shops while having breakfast.
Now I will honor this bright, chilly autumn day by assembling some split pea and ham soup in the slow cooker. I grew up in Wisconsin and then lived in Michigan's far north of 5+ years. Cool weather cooking is my favorite!

Somewhere, I have t h e best yoghurt and jam cake recipe. Fun to make, fun to est. The original recipe involved some flavor that was not apples. Any clever soul could make it to suit themselves. Again, fun. smiling smiley

Celebrating because I just snagged an October hotel shop with a nice fee, meals and bar, and an ocean-front room with balcony. I am familiar with the report/requirements and, although they are somewhat long and detailed (NOT Coyle though!) entirely manageable. I will have plenty of time to hunt for a couple of little shops to do on my way to and from the beach and may even book a room on rewards points for a second night at the beach. I LOVE off season travel. (Saw/walked around Avebury in a snow shower, lol. Those monoliths were wonderful amid the snow.)

On the route home from 2 garage shops, a quick stop at Aldi and the wine store that is right next door to it.
Then will freeze most of that batch of split pea soup and have some for dinner.

Church and Asian store. Back at home changed clothes and walked up to Walgreens for a prescription and Aldi for almond milk for Hubby. Laundry. Youngest Son is coming for dinner.

Worked half the day and came home with a shrieking back/hip. I felt better immediately after watching videos of cute bears and bear cubs playing at school and on the golf course. Bwahaha! I still need back care, but that was fun! The bear who was afraid of the golf clubs and climbed a tree in order to spy on the golf clubs was... well... what were they thinking?grinning smiley
