@Shop-et-al..I have had thyroid issues for 13 years which is the exact amount of time I have been in the US (right after I got married). My mom has had thyroid for about 20 years and what has really helped us both is limiting raw, cruciferous vegetables. I do take a green smoothie everyday but always try to limit raw greens. Instead, sauteed or pan fried green veggies do nor interfere with your levels. I have managed to keep my levels at an optimal level but of course, I took the help of an endocrinologist. I was lucky to find him and he told me how general physicians are sometimes unable to monitor your levels. Each age group and gender has a different optimal level rather than one size fits all approach. He kept changing the doses until we reached that magic number of 1 which he said was right for me. My first year (2008) when I was diagnosed, I had gained a shocking amount of weight. I was able to shed all that weight and more in 3 months with medication, diet adjustments, and exercise.
I was having my blood tested every 3 months and it was such a pain to go to the lab. Now, it is once a year and I hope that continues. I am so glad I ditched the Gen. Physician and went to see that specialist.
Well, today was more walking at the Forest Park, then lentil pancakes for lunch, and marking those 50 states on the maps with my daughter. Raining like cats and dogs here. Hope, Ida spares Louisiana.
