What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Trying to keep the house cool, although it is now only going to 29°C. Not so bad as predicted, but hot for this part of Alberta!
Pull some weeds in the shade, sew curtain liner to keep more sun out/ darken room.
Other sewing.

Free day! Until nap-then-job. But free for now!

So I slept until 3 a.m. and did a few house tasks, read for awhile, and realized that I slept until 3 a.m. This is progress toward a better sleep pattern. Perhaps I can sleep until, say, 5 a.m. tomorrow. ? That would be good... smiling smiley

My dad celebrated another birthday yesterday. My Mom made a big dinner and he opened a bunch of gifts.

I'm not sure what's going on, but today I had a headache and little energy. I did as little as possible.

@KathyG: I hope you are feeling better today!

I woke up at four, an hour before the alarm at five. This was some progress. After today's gigs, reports, and night shift, I will probably have difficulty waking before noon tomorrow! But I will need to do that because Wednesday is the day to work on things in the storage unit. I have perfect boxes but the flimsiest excuse for tape that I have ever seen. Need to add the real strapping tape there!

Last day of school. No call to sub, so I am on summer vacation!

YAY! Enjoy it!
I have a little temperature today. Strange enough, a little fever helps me calm down and relax. I am not restless like the rest of the days when I can't sit still and always find something to do. As if, I feel guilty if I sit idle. So yeah, I'll wind down a bit today though I see the dust on the cabinet calling me.
A wine run today after work. Listening to one of my audiobooks from the library. Reconciling my shopping spreadsheet and paying bills.

Laundry; lunch at my favorite diner to celebrate finishing last shop of the quarter; researching phone numbers to use for follow-up on MS assignments; looking for more July shops; planning non-MS chores for the long weekend.

Boss says I get a pay raise as long as I continue to work the night shifts, which are always more productive for their purposes than my preferred day shifts. Of course this is okay-- now. We no longer have the early job and are free to work all other work more effectively. To that end, I have been rummaging around in shop world and looking for a relatively easy way to pay for a trip to mil. No pun intended. I noticed that potential July shops which are conveniently located on the way to/from mil have a new base fee. This is less than 50% of the usual base fee. Hmm. Or, should that be a resounding Eep!? Either way, the sensible solution is to time the visit for when many assignments add bonuses. July will be my first ever month for waiting for bonuses and not shopping before bonus time (an important milestone in the life of a mystery shopper/mercher/auditor). Does anyone else have MS thought bubbles? 'Two of this type pay for one hotel room. One of those feeds everyone at a non-shop meal. Those weeny and truly quick things pay for the fuel, and that one is exactly where I was going to be anyway-- so I get to deduct all the miles-- bwahaha.'

Took the car in this morning for a tranny flush and fill w/replacement filter. It's been about 50K miles, so it's time. Also getting the brakes checked to be sure they're in good shape when hubby and I go on vacation up to PA in August. Washing 2 loads of laundry.
Doing last minute packing and organizing for tomorrow's early morning flight out to California to visit two sets of children and grandchildren. Youngest Son is coming to our house to take care of the cat, so that includes cleaning up my office which doubles as the guest room.

I contacted a company because a I didn't receive two plants that I ordered. Their packages are usually left at my front door. I checked my mailbox for MS checks. The package has been in there since Friday. We're in a heat wave.

Time to do mid-year personal accounting. First half of 2021 numbers are in...
My favorite US benchmark, the S&P 500 was up 14.41% YTD, our "early retirement" accounts were up a trailing (as expected) 10.35%.
Go USA! (...now get back to work smiling smiley )

I slept until 5:00 a.m. Go me!

So there is a narrow window between now and earlier than usual nap time before work. There is exactly enough time for a workout and a quick non-shop trip to the grocery store. I did add some gigs to the end of June and the beginning of July. This is practical: they paid well, made up for one shift that was cancelled due to July 4, let me try something new, evaluate the fee & reimbursement for something new, and/or paid for two little upcoming road trips. It means that I can take Friday and Saturday off from work. Those are the least productive days and do not contribute to the concept of earning a raise, and they are just right for certain combinations of gigs. Win-win.

Did you know that on this day in History, the Dominion of Canada was established? That was just a shout-out for our Canadian members. Due to pandemic restrictions, we might not have seen our Canadian friends in rl for awhile...

Just reading news. Poor Britney. I wonder what led the judge to make this decision. Meanwhile, Bill Cosby enjoyed pizza and was cracking jokes on his first day at home after prison release. Wow! The world we live in.
Yes, I knew that happened on July First, in 1867.
We called it Dominion Day when I was a child.

Bill Cosby should not have been prosecuted-- based upon a deal made with a previous prosecutor. That was a no-no. This release does not pertain to any guilt or innocence. It is purely procedural.

Bessemer Trust reportedly has made a move to withdraw from its role in the conservatorship. This may help in some way. ? I hope so. Could another sort of soul serve as interim conservator while the hoped-for process of termination proceeds? Separating family, family patterns, and long-time dynamics from the legal mass might be helpful. ?

I bought a beautiful sculpture during my Goodwill shop. It needs its own piece of furniture to display it.

So... umm... are you now planning another shop for furnitre?

No. I have it sitting on my TV console. I have to put some thought into where to place it so it can be properly displayed.

Today was the monthly houseplant watering. I did all of the plants except for the Snake plant.

I went to Lowes and got a low light green plant and a pot to put it in. On the trip to Aldi's, I got a Dragon which is now in my bedroom.

Routine medical follow-up visit; quick Aldi stop; take non-driving neighbor to bank and grocery store; wine run; made some cold salad items to use over the next few days.

This is the last week of working all seven days at various places. Phew. Next week, I will have a four-night work week. There is no shift on Sunday due to the holiday. I am working elsewhere that day. I will appreciate the me/free/yippee skippee time for all sorts of reasons. Last night was the kicker, as if Bill Engvald were jeering, "Here's your sign!" In the middle of an interview, I just clogged up and had an obnoxious allergy thing. Bleh. The person was lovely and stayed with me until the end of our task. Good on them! It more than made up for some of the others who... well... show their loveliness in less recognizable ways.

Worked live all this week. Heat and humidity was hellatious. Mom made 3 beautiful R, W and B centerpieces. I know SIL's will take them home, lol. Prepped whatever I could for 7/4; plates, utensils, pans, tattoo station, etc. Going food shopping tomorrow. We will create pasta salad and a 3 bean salad. Sunday morning, we will hose down the outdoor furniture and set up. A lot of work but will be happy times. God Bless America. Happy July 4th to all.
Happy Saturday! Check out Rowman & Littlefield's list of July designations. See anything you like?

June–July
Fireworks Safety Months (June 1–July 4)

July
Alopecia Month for Women, Intl
Bereaved Parents Awareness Month, Worldwide
Bioterrorism/Disaster Education and Awareness Month
Cell Phone Courtesy Month
Deli Salad Month, Natl
“Doghouse Repairs” Month, Natl
Grilling Month, Natl

Hot Dog Month, Natl
Ice Cream Month, Natl
Make a Difference to Children Month, Natl
Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Natl

Smart Irrigation Month
Watermelon Month, Natl
Women’s Motorcycle Month

According to this list, it is more than okay to have Arby's horsey sauce, hot dogs, potato salad, and watermelon-- regardless of how anyone defines themselves. What. Meanwhile, I am going to contemplate how courteous it may or may not be to gad about the world with a cell phone in use and making notes and taking pics of whatever someone will pay us to do. Does our work prevent us from being courteous with our cell phones? Hmm. I have four full weeks and part of one day in which to decide before it is time to think about next month's designated awareness topics.
