What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I have defrosted quite a lot of beef chuck. Rather than make one main dish I will make two different one, both slow cooked. Becasue I only have one slow cooker, I will, instead, do this the "old fashioned" way. Each will be in a casserole with a tight-fitting lid, and both will go intoa 300 F oven that will be lowered to 200 after one hour. Five-7 hours later both will be done. And, I will not have to turn up the house thermostat any further. One will be beef stew (carrots, celery, and onion from the bag in the freezer that holds saved veggies) and one will be pot roast with self-making gravy.

Does anyone else remember Peg Braken's Stay-a-bed stew from the 1960s?
This stew will be a first cousin to that recipe. As a young wife, fulltime college student with two part-time jobs, her "I Hate t Cook Book" was my housekeeping Bible.

Love Peg Bracken!

Today is all about working at one thing or another all day. Since there was no fix for the dishwasher, I washed dishes until my back froze and caused a wee crash. Oh, well. We didn't need that dish. So tomorrow, I hopefully assert, I can work on the massive project from... one? two? three? days ago. I like extra work. I do not like how much time it takes. I like money. I do the extra work and moan about the projects.

Are the projects household stuff Shop-et-al!?

I think I saw a Peg Bracken book when I was clearing out my aunt's house. Should have kept it I guess.

Today, I managed to get rid of some teaching materials. Not nearly enough, but some. I know i am never setting up a class again, but still keep do much stuff.

Off to bundle up and go snowshoe. Hubby says men die younger because they work harder. LOL
I can't deal with another day stuck inside with cold weather/walking in the mall for steps. Tonight after work we will be going out to dinner on our way to the Art Museum. I just hope there aren't too many people or we will be walking a very far distance after we park.

My parents got their second shots Monday. Dad had no problem. Mom crumpled like a wet noodle - although I would consider her to be medically frail. I told her it's better to feel tired for a few days than sicker than sick for weeks and never come out of it. She agreed it was worth it. I took the week off because they warned me the second shot would be a doozy.

I quit my crock pot. I made a ranch pesto chicken a few weeks ago and it was very...gloppy. It must have been the veggies. I had much better results in the oven.

I have the food bank tomorrow. After, a trip to Aldi. I'm getting my regular produce, meats and some middle aisle stuff.

Check into my housework support group and try to start a routine. The clutter is stressing me.

Snowshoe. It is -28°C, but that is a warm activity.

Read the book for my book club

Watch icy rain freezing on roads, walkways and deck. Some power outages locally.

Hubby and I were desperate to find a new place to walk indoors. We went to a casino. I rarely frequent them, and it didn't take me long to remember how much I hated the smoky smell. Even the upstairs nonsmoking area had a tinge of smoke.

Sounds awful. Our casinos don't have smoking anywhere. They are also closed now, though.

I volunteered at the food bank early this morning. After, I got my hair done then went to Aldi's. The weekly specials I found were filet mignon and a bag saver thing to put in my cabinet. I forgot to get pesto.

I am heartbroken. I found out my hiking partner passed away. I don't know what happened. Her husband posted it on FB.

I made a Puttanesca pasta salad and one of the filet mignons. I slightly overcooked the steak, but it was still tender and tasty.

I seared it in a cast iron fry pan before the oven heated. I like a thick line of pink in the middle.

Shipping out eBay sales. Going grocery shopping to buy stuff to mail to the food pantries in Iowa. Maybe folding some laundry and ironing.
I guess this is a preview for what life is like in my 80's?
Went out for Valentine's brunch. Hubby and I had one of the specials-Bananas Foster French toast flambéd tableside. Came with scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, and coffee. Wonderful!

Staying inside and staying warm. Hoping to get Hubby to look through some boxes of his books that have been boxed up since we moved more than a year ago and put some into the donation pile. Getting into the Mardi Gras spirit by eating candy and sweets.

Clean, unclutter and organize the whole house. My daily goal lol

Well if it warms up to -15°C Hubby has agreed to go skating.
Turns out the boxes that were labeled books were actually photos. Couldn't get rid of anything, but combined three boxes into two. Now there's am extra 1.5 cubic feet of room in the closet.

I am watching Superstore on Peacock. The one episode about secret shoppers was hilarious! Has anyone seen it ?
Completely. Free. Day. Huzzah!

Years later, I am organized such that the FlyLady method will work here. Yesterday, between episodes of Outrageous Fortune, I shrieked, grunted, swore, moaned, and groaned my way through a major rearrangement of @#$^7^&$%. Now, all I have to do is sort a little at a time, a few times per week. Eventually, all this unprintable will be filed, tossed, shredded, or donated. And then... well... what will there be to report in this thread?! grinning smiley

I have to make the other steak that came in the 2-pack tomorrow. I now know to preheat the oven first!

My hiking partner died from complications of depression. Even though we saw each other a few times a week, I didn't know she was suffering. She suffered to the point where she left behind a (grown) son, husband and 2 dogs.

Tragic about your friend, HonnyBrown. Often, there is no warning and a long trail of wondering. Please be comforted as needed.

How tragic and terribly sad. I’m so very sorry for the loss to loved ones.

I am so sorry Honny.

My day is exact same plan as yesterday. Did not warm up to -15°C yet.

@Shop-et-al, that sounds pretty organized to me
When I was at Aldi I bought a flatbread pizza and salad kit for our Mardi Gras dinner, but based on a message from a Five Guys scheduler that dinner can wait until later in the week. I'm having hamburger and fries tonight!
