Bought smiley faced cookies decorated by a job skills participant and some sweets for tomorrow's breakfast at a bakery/job skills program for special needs adults, then popped into a couple more stores for provisions. Back home in time for lunch.

Preparing to Freecycle lots of food that is a threat to my blood sugar level. Recent test gave me a LOUD wake-up call, and I know that I can return to the safe level that I had maintained for 20 years once I weed out the orange juice and cookies and return to reading libels carefully. This is NOT a New Year resolution; this is reality! I can still have tasty snacks and meals. I have just gotten careless.

My black eyed peas are fully soaked. I am going to make a New Year's Black Eyed Pea and Corn salad. I have to figure out a way to incorporate anchovies and some new vinegars.

Work. Sleep. Rummage around online and find/buy/install the two most recent Carol Reed games. Carol Reed is a delightful English sleuth who works in Sweden. She thoughtfully speaks in English and allows herself to be entirely mouse-driven. There is no swearing or on-screen violence in her world, and her producer generously shows us parts of real world and history. Two weeny shops will fund my games. I was "supposed" to be gung-ho for projects. Instead, I am happy to have movie & a workout and contemplate the meaning of a quiet day in the middle of nowhere.

wales, I stopped in Aldi's after my shop on Tuesday. I looked at the greens and didn't buy them!

I called my high limit credit card company and asked for different options for a rewards card. Instead of telling me that I would need to apply for a new card, they told me I could do a product change.

That works for me! I can keep my same rate and limit and I can get the rewards.

I get my new card in 5 days.

Debit card issues! My card got cancelled due to my own stupidity. I now have to put all of my purchases on my MS credit card and remember transfer the funds. I previously canceled my rewards card and opted for one with a high limit.

Cooking, cleaning, Rounding and Estimation lesson with my daughter and a few episodes of Andy Griffith.

A trip to the botanical garden, mainly to get steps in. Phone call with Middle Son and grandsons. Dinner prepared by Hubby.

I'm having steak for dinner. My brother grilled them for all of us and I made frozen tater tots in my new Air Fryer. I got a Paula Deen and it's very big. A whole bag of Tater Tots fit into it. 7 minutes and ready. Crispy but cooked with out oil.
I love Tater Tots! I always baked them with no oil. I used to make a Tater Tot casserole for my kids and they went gaga over it.

Tater Tots... Tater Salad... anyone remember Ron White?

Anyway.... today is all about a quiet day until workout, nap & work.

First 'real' day of the new year. In between holidays, traveling, and quarantining it feels like a VERY long time since things have been normal. Today I'm doing one shop for pay, then stopping in other places in the area just because I want to.

Dialing for covid vaccine appointment. We made the national news because with overnight temperatures in the 40s (coldest in two decades for those dates) seniors and at risk folks were camping out in lines for upwards of 20 hours to get their covid shots. The Health Department was shamed into setting up appointments like the rest of the country.

There are 5000 shots available this week. The phone lines opened at noon and by 12:40 all slots had been filled. I was sitting here hitting 'redial' on two cell phones and a land line between 11:57AM and 12:45 PM trying to get through. Sometimes I got a busy signal, sometimes I got ringing tones until the call was disconnected, twice (all using the same redial scenario) I got some scam that if I pressed 1 I would be connected to claim my $100 Walmart gift card, once I got through the first step of the phone tree before getting disconnected, twice I got to the message that I was being shunted to the 'call back queue' and one of those announced there had been an error in the transfer and my call was dropped. Finally I successfully completed the 'call back queue' but they haven't called back. Maybe when they get more shots they will call me back . . .
I came home and my garage door wouldn't open. My extra remote is in the kitchen. I go to my front door. I don't have the key to the screen door. I went to the neighborhood dollar store. They don't have the right size batteries for the remote. I went to Home Depot for the batteries. No luck. I have no working credit or debit cards. The locksmith comes an hour later and I pay him via Zelle.

I was in panic mode.

It is in-person voting day in Georgia. To distract myself from election stuff, I am trying a new recipe, a new-to-me workout, and a new toothpaste (not shops, no reports). All this newness should prepare me for a new little personal inquiry into how one state considers it acceptable that there were more votes than voters, etc. *stops short of diatribe only because this is good for personal well-being & blood pressure and leaves the actual and talented essayists to consider whether a brave new world is where we find ourselves today*

Cooking a batch of Great Northern beans in the Instant Pot, then freezing them in meal-sized portions. Picking up materials to install a basket system on the back of the pantry door. Stocking up on vitamins and supplements at Walgreens during Senior Day.

Oy indeed! I am very surprised at how quickly and logically I acted. I have a repairman coming to do the garage on Saturday.

I went to a convenience store this morning to take advantage of their Free Coffee Tuesdays for rewards members. I didn't see the notification on my app, but the cashiers usually wave people through.

When I got to the register with my cuppa, she told me that the dude in front of me paid for my coffee! After thanking him, I asked her if the coffee was still free. She said it was not, as of the weekend.

That was truly a nice gesture. I have limited cash on hand, no plastic and it was 5am...I NEEDED caffeine!
