What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Couldn't do much of anything today. At 5:40 am, our power went out...and was not restored for 14+ hours, at 8:05 pm tonight. Not even weather related, although we had lots of rain today. Someone hit a utility pole with a vehicle and broke the pole, according to Duke Power. 1700+ customers affected, and I was one of them. So thankful for gas logs and tac lights! Stuff in upright freezer stayed frozen. I keep a LARGE jug of frozen water and a LARGE ice block in the freezer, so I put those if the fridge, and everything stayed cold in there, too! Reheated leftover hamburgers from last night's supper in a pan over the gas logs fireplace-yum! All good now!

grinning smiley Watching news, some silly and some touching holiday movies, and-- in Flylady style-- dispensing with projects. Three are gone forever. It is amazing what can be done in fifteen minutes when the motivation is, 'omg i can hardly wait to get back to that movie. How much lunacy/more heart-wrenching drama/reeeaaalllly ban punniness can they find to fill the remaining hour?!' Go me.

I wacked my foot on the closet door frame and bruised the fourth toe in my right foot pretty bad. Tonight I will be indulging in an Epsom salt soak...maybe even take care of other foot maintenance while I’m at it.

I went to the bank after work. They did a recent remodel and all of the dust got beneath my mask. It triggered a sneezing session of epic proportions.

Do you know what it's like to sneeze in public during COVID? I was treated like a leper.

Subbed for PE, Social Studies and more. 3 long outdoor supervisions. Phew, a long day and over 10,000 steps just at work.
Errands, and now on couch with cat and quilt!
Well, no one called for the last day.
So far, couch, quilt, coffee, cat and Heartland. Looking forward to at least 3 weeks off.

Need to get Christmas cards mailed. Last minute Sam. Hubby says.

Work. Scratching my head over 'The Dissertaion' flap. It is not important that a female wrote it. It is important that an advanced degree was awarded despite simple addition and other errors. Is this usual? I do not know...

... One good direction for the discussion is to meta studies such as... a comparison of dissertations at points in time. What did Engineering and other dissertations from selected schools look like in 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2020? (Other times could be selected.) Compare the winning dissertation for each school that rewards this with one or three other dissertations from the same semester at each school. Now, compare similar dissertations across schools. To obtain larger samples, we could consider land grant, private, conferences (which have changed), and other factors such as athletes, other scholarship students, admission rates, and graduation rates. We might not be surprised to find a greater number of female dissertation award winners in recent decades because women have been earning PhD's at higher rates than men in recent years.

So now you know. If ever I return for yet another degree, I might choose something like this for a project.

Today Hubby is taking off two hours early (the amount of authorized time if his office had been able to have a holiday party in real life). We will do some still to be determined adventure, but be back home in time for a Zoom concert tonight.

It's was the last day of virtual school (sad day) as they are sending us back to the building in the new year.yawning smiley( But my kids were sweet and now it's time to start our holiday break!
All the Amazon distribution centers around us closed for the bad weather. I NEVER thought that would ever happen, especially this time of year, but boy the weather sure was bad.

Educating myself about the sorts of "chair lifts" that can be installed on stairs. I need to insure easy access to my second floor bedroom and shower as I age in place here. So far I have been pleasantly surprised at prices and features of the five brands (and about 15 models) that have been reviewed on line. Unless there is a delivery backlog, I should have something installed by mid-January; much earlier if no back logs.

The was my last week of working 6 day weeks. A plus is that next week I will have a three day weekend. I am so looking forward to that!

I bought myself an air fryer from Amazon. It was delivered a few days ago. I haven't unpacked it yet because I'm not sure how to get started. Except for BBQ and microwave, I haven't really done very much cooking. I'm thinking maybe I will start by making tater tots. Then maybe I'll get more creative.
rofl taco, I got a Chefman Air Fryer a few years back. It's in the Kitchen Gadget Graveyard, untouched. My Mom uses hers frequently.

My Oster food processor, bought in September, is still in the box. By the time I unbox and assemble it, I could use and clean my trusty knife.

So many kitchen gadgets, not enough space!

I definitely use my food processor less than when I was feeding an entire family, but it comes in handy when I have to slice a large quantity of vegetables and have them all come out the same size or if I have to puree something.

Snowshoeing with a friend. Have to meet there, can't drive together. Bringing a picnic to share. Christmas season get togethers grinning smiley
I used my blender to make a few smoothies, then it went to The Graveyard.

My mandolin only comes out on occasion. I love how the veggies are all the same shape, cut and size. It's a bear to clean.

Like I said, I haven't even opened the food processor. I bought it to make cauliflower fried rice and pesto.

Got up early (for a Sunday) and was the Le Creuset store when it opened. Christmas shopping complete! Son saw that there was a Lululemon store (they have men's stuff) and was 7th in line 30 minutes before opening. 15 minutes after opening, the line (virtual reservations) was 2 1/2 hours long. Yesterday, it was 12 hours...People love that brand. (P.S. yes, he is completely over coronavirus. He still wears a mask and stays 6 ft away from everyone.)
My non-driving neighbor goes grocery shopping with me about twice per week. Today we teamed up and placed a very large order for curbside pick-up tomorrow. If that goes well, we will probably move to delivery for everything from that big store. We are both high risk and trying to really cut back on interactions. Then I made some phone calls to three customer service places (bank, pharmacy and medicare insurer) to straighten out 3 very different issues. Applied for a bank shop with a very large EOQ bonus. Avidly followed the news about the deal for Congressional help for UI benefits and direct payments.

Re painted the last wall of kitchen. Project was almost done early August when DS and his family including 3 very little ones moved in for a few months. So far I love love love the new soft buttery yellow color!
The plan for tomorrow...post office visit...one shop....unpack a box or two...wrap gifts...dog walks...and maybe a visit to Dollar Tree.
After a quick drive-thru bank shop..., Aldi for staples; Giant Foods for curbside order pick-up. Then home to store all food and supplies, and to prep a package to send to an Ebay buyer. Take pictures of and post a bunch of stuff to give away on Freecycle.

Tonight might be my last night shift for this year. It is time for the annual hiatus, and they have finished or soon will finish this year's work. Mind you, one of the surveys will return next year in a different iteration. Will this be less intrusive, more intrusive, and/or equally potentially discomfiting?

Fitting errands around phone calls to an apartment complex to try and get targeted agent. The bonus is good enough that when I do it will become my top priority.

sad smiley i lost my phone. I can't replace it for a few months and had to cancel all assignments that involve pics, apps, and/or phones. Wait. That describes all my gigs. I am just hoping and praying that other people will pick up the assignments soon.

Oh my, I hope you find your phone.
My new phone took a dump out of the kayak with me. Camera quit working but luckily was able to find an app. Hope it lasts until phone is paid for.
