What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Hubby got the results of his covid test about noon. Mine took five extra hours, during which I worried about what was wrong. However, both were negative. I can start packing for trip to California!
California has a new travel advisory for out of state people. It’s expected to be even more restrictive today. Watch for new announcements from our dictator.

I guess we'll be quarantining at our kid's place. Two weeks doing nothing but playing with grandkids. DARN! :-)

That’s what I figured, as long as he doesn’t change the rules. Every day, we get new rules.
@SoCalMama: Are you talking about Gavin, who recently attended a party and only later talked about setting a better example and modeling appropriate covid behavior for the masses? Hmm.

In my state, some people want a complete shutdown because they feel this might thwart the advancement of the coviid. Others feel that the financial consequences of it might crush us. Logistically, it might be problematic because of where we are. What to do, what to do... I would not mind it so much because I am almost completely prepared for months of shutdown or indirect stoppages for my work. Before covid, I had become accustomed to how boom & bust economy operates here and how weather affects many situations and closes roads frequently. Once, it took two days to complete a series of shops that were a half an hour apart because of road closures. Silly to have scheduled something efficient, eh? Only here... grinning smiley Anyway, I do not even start with those situations in the winter any more. Now, If I could not go to any worksites because of covid, I would not be shocked.A complete shutdown would be more of the same. We are a hardy bunch and can deal with whatever happens-- except for the possible disastrous financial consequences over time. This would be a terrible legacy because the boom & bust economy is further complicated by typical weather-related closures and recent budget cuts which will result in some roads being unplowed and remaining closed more frequently and/or for longer periods of time. What about people who would be impacted by those changes along with covid closures?

So my world is about practical things: wondering about what is best for most or at least not the worst for as many as possible where we live; work (it is Sunday, therefore we expect it to be late); clean something; sort something; be grateful for great finds at thrift; and take a nice, long nap before the night job. It is still on, apparently, even though some parts of campus are reverting to online and other stronger covid measures.

My mattress was delivered yesterday. It feels so good! Today, I may get my nails done.

Finally picking up the new computer, plus looking for resalable items at a local Goodwill store.

Packing and wrapping up loose ends before my trip tomorrow. Also getting in a walk.

Someone wants Dumpkitty! Dropping him off at noon! Hope it works out!
Maybe meeting walking buddy. For walk, skate, or ski.

Yes, same guy who "can empathize" with small business owners "because he is one too."
He's co-owner of a Napa winery with one of the Getty's. (eye roll)
Kitty probably has a new name now, to go along with their new life. smiling smiley

Tried on pants this morning. Size has not budged for a few months. Must get moving to the next smaller size... at least I have not gone larger! Today is eye exam day and the opportunity to get a status update. I have been wanting (even whinging!) to be lens free for years and years. In the worst case scenario, I could wait a little longer.

Yay, Kitty went to a nice woman.
And I have aching legs from snowshoeing.

Glad you found Dumpkitty a good home.
Not much.... Laundry; conditioning hair; packing an item to drop at USPS tomorrow; consolidating household trash; making routine appointments.

I hope nice woman treats Dumpkitty with lots of love!
I had a good feeling about the woman who took Kitty. He is a really nice cat, he should settle in well.
Some sort of fix-it surgery. It is still too soon, but I was able to continue to wear the current glasses and not spend more money for a new pair. That was a good thing. Once I found out that other glasses styles are fogging up as mine are, I chose to keep the paid-for pair. Why spend money for others that will fog up?

Yay for Dumpkitty! I hope he keeps his name.

After a long plane trip Hubby and I got settled into our Air BnB, then went over to family's for dinner. All of the children (4 years, and 16-month old twins) were standoffish (as I figured they would be) but before the night was over they warmed up...and warmed my heart!

So the night job will continue as usual for a few more weeks before end-of-year hiatus. If I am awake during the break, I will complete numerous projects at home. I have enough time to clean out my merch bag/temporary purse/temporary book bag. What goodies are in there, I wonder?

More laundry; taking non-driving neighbor to Trader Joe's and wine store; picking up a prescription (drive-thru); dropping off a package at USPS during errands. Getting trash and recycling to the curb.

I got a nighttime ointment for my dry eyes. I used it a few hours before I went to bed. Big mistake! It was goopy and I couldn't see.

Honny, hubby & I ordered a new mattress from Amazon. It was delivered about 30 minutes ago. I had the UPS driver and his ass't leave the box on the front porch till hubby gets home in a bit. Ours is a full-size mattress. It's amazing how a full size mattress can be all rolled up inside that box! We're old-school. It's a coil-spring with no extra gel or foam (We've got a My Pillow mattress topper anyhow), and is an 8" mattress. The box that it is inside of is about 5' x 1' x 1'!! I need to go get a new bed skirt today before we change it out.
Finally, the crew to build an additional front step to my front stoop is about to arrive. Due to weather delays and interruptions, (Freezing temps or rain mean no pouring concrete.) this has moved from early last week to today.

The sidewalk has sunk where it meets the first existing step over the years so that an additional step is needed to make it safe and easy to get to the front door. Because this contractor has had crews in the neighborhood to do a lot of work on the common area sidewalks, homeowners were offered a great rate to have work done on their properties. Basically, I will be paying for the materials. The contractor wants and needs to keep their crews employed, so it is a mutually profitable situation. Instead of $750-1000.00, this will cost me $125.00 for a really professional job (instead of some guy with a wheelbarrow and some Sack-crete stuff.for $300)

eta: They were here and done in about 20 minutes and replaced one section of the lead sidewalk as well as adding a new step. So far, it is looking great. Very professional crew and a pleasure to watch.

My project today is helping Son install a rubber gym mat in the garage. He’s doing all the measuring and cutting. I’m the putter in place.
