Today I am (once again!) supervising my middle school student's online work. This is getting old.

Shop-et-al, our school district is still closed down for middle schoolers and high schoolers. They don't expect to restart until second semester, which begins in February (save me!) The kids have Chromebooks and the teachers hold classes via Zoom. Ms Middle Schooler is growing quite discontent with this situation as she is the outgoing, social, music/dance/volleyball type of person. I have to assure that she is online when she should be, and that her work is getting turned in on time and with more than just minimal effort. It's a pretty frustrating situation for all involved, but it is working....after a fashion.
I am currently trying to locate my 8th grade algebra teacher, so I can tell him I did have a use for learning algebra after all. To teach it to my teenager!

A very big part of school is social norms. How are kids achieving that?
You use algebra a lot more than you think.

Dumpkitty is warm, fed and has a bed in the garage. Which is where pampered Kitty also sleeps. He's got a cat door and has always been free to go in and out. All day, we let him in and out.
Pampered Kitty has started to be affectionate to us again. And will spend the day in the house without spraying now!! I only cuddle Dumpkitty when pampered Kitty is not looking. So Dumpkitty is lonely.
Our Kitty is not an alpha, and Dumpkitty takes Pampered Kitty's bed. So PK is not happy.
Dumpkitty really really wants to be a cuddly house cat so she cries to come in the house but haven't let her. Two shelters are full. Have a couple leads on homes, though.
I don't know how people get cats to get along!
