Today, I will be organizing paperwork: ie, moving piles from the table and into a drawer or cabinet.

Today, I begin the latest shredding project. Is it more impressive to calculate by the pound or the filled shredder bag? Hmm. There are a few more things to take back to storage (weather permitting) and ten more episodes of 'Ladies of Letters'. to watch. You know about all the stuff that has to be sorted... yawn...

I was in a store today, and a little, old sweetheart of a lady asked me if I knew where the local appliance store was. I looked it up on GMaps, and it said they were closed for good. I told her where the next closest one was. This sweet lady tried to give me $1 for helping her! I didn't accept it. I told her she could pay me by helping the next person. That way, we both could make the world a better place.

It's been quite the kitchen day. I made a batch of pumpkin muffins for the freezer, put together a hot lunch of random leftovers for myself and Hubby, used my semi-original recipe to make some breakfast barley--two servings for tomorrow and two to freeze for down the line, and put together a rice/fresh asparagus/vegan queso cheese sauce dish for dinner.

Breakfast barley? That is brilliant! Barley is filling and nutritious. I keep barley in the freezer but I forget about it.

JAS, this is the remote for the TV, not the cable box. I can't adjust the volume or watch Amazon Prime video. It has to be in the bedroom somewhere.

I cook the barley in fruit juice with a little brown sugar or syrup and whatever spices catch my eye. At the end I mix in dried fruit and nuts.

My vet is not allowing pet owners inside the building, only employees and critters. Vets and/or techs will come to your car and get your pet. Rigorous sanitizing inside is practiced. Phone contact only with humans.

I have a cat on a prescription diet. I'm not affiliated in anyway, but in my experience, Chewy is an excellent, mail order source.

Today, I went to work at my regular place, where there were very few customers and caught the bus which only had 2 other riders. Funnily enough, it was right in front of the liquor store that had a full parking lot and it reminded me (too late) that I should get another bottle of bourbon and gin.

I also lost my remote to my Blue Ray player. My cable remote works my tv and is the only one I've used for the 2+ years I've lived in this place...until now, when I want to watch a DVD I was given. The stupid player doesn't have buttons on it and you can't buy a universal remote or use a remote app, so basically it is useless and I can't watch Trolls lol.

And finally, Mert, I second Chewy! Besides their amazing corporate culture, they have pretty good deals. Not to mention that their "models" are actual pets of employees and you can follow them on YouTube (I know it's kinda odd that I know that, but I'm ok with it lol) .

They only had 3 chairs in the vets office and a sign that said to wait in the car and they would come get you. Luckily I only had to walk in and she handed me the bag of meds and I walked back out and sanitized my hands. There were two other people in there chatting away like nothing was wrong. One of them was leaning over the counter to talk to the receptionist.
I'd feel a lot better if they had their office set up like Mert's.

As for what I've been up to, nothing much today but the dog threw up on me after I shared my salad with her. I guess that's what I get. I currently have a batch of oatmeal cookies in the oven.

Work. Gather all kinds of information for various eventualities. Work on whatever projects inspire me.

Cooking. Browning a pound of hot Italian sausage to the freeze in 1/3 lb bags to add to sauces later. Braising 2 large lamb shanks, to strip the meat and freeze in small portions to add to various meal prep ideas.

You can make a barley risotto too. I had a recipe once upon a time. It's your basic chicken broth, various veggies thing. The recipe I had wasn't that great. I thought it needed more flavor, possibly something like sun dried tomatoes to perk it up. I found that the barley was better when I added it to soup. But I really like barley and that fruity one sounds appealing.

I am making a small crockpot of bean soup with andouille sausage. I used chicken broth and water to cook the beans. Oh crap, I should add some onions. I am going to go do that. On hold with BOA, wait time is 1 hour. Got it on speaker, LOL!

I used to make Lobster Risotto on New Years' Day when I was married. It was a lengthy process because of the rice. No way am I doing that for just me.

I'm going to make a lemon-rosemary barley in turkey stock. While that's cooking, I'm going to brown the peppers, onions and sausage crumbles in a separate pan, then mix everything.

Now, when many courses are switching to online for health reasons, I am thinking about education in general and remembering the story of Dr. Joyce Bishop. Apparently, her eye doc noticed that she was overcompensating for something by overusing her vision. There she was, a grown-up in grad school, when she finally was diagnosed with a learning disorder. She goes to educational therapy, gets a master's and a PhD, and gets a real job in human resources development. She was teaching teachers how to teach online long before COVID-19 forced many into this mode as well as writing for the 'keys for student success' series. In a short youtube video, she tells this story and mentions 'Pathways to Independence'. She and her hubby developed this program for 'throwaway' girls. The board of directors is made up of 50% program graduates and 50% administrative people. I wanna be like her when I grow up!

I thought SPAM was aka 'Miracle Meat'. I call mystery shop food 'Mystery Meat'. I learned something.
