What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I have returned from yet another wonderful visit with my parents. I came back with gifts and oodles of leftovers.

I picked up an ivy plant on a shop. I repotted it with some peat moss. The leaves got dry and brittle. I took it home and asked my Dad to revive it. He added fertilizer and water and said it was dead. He said to get another one. I think the roots are still good, so I cut the dead off. We'll see!

Awwww..... smiling smiley Our plants are growing well now after changes in soil, pottery, and nearby plant companions. One plant is blooming again. Another shed three old leaves and adds more daily (or so it seems). This leafy one looks like it could be a canopy plant in a rain forest when it finishes growing up and up and up... As a group they seem to have some silent ecosystem thing going on that we mere humans sort of understand.

It's practically impossible to kill ivy. Just water it once in awhile, put it in a sunny place and pretty soon you will mostly likely see signs of life.
We went shopping at the Retail Outlet Mall. So many great deals! Got leggings, running shoes, Calvin Klein jacket and a handbag. Besides the tax in Wisconsin is half that of Illinois. The hour long drive was was worth it.
That's what I thought! After repotting, the leaves actually turned brittle.

Recently I posted some furniture on both Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Craigslist has been a dud, but today I sold a mahogany bedroom set and fielded questions about some vintage maple dressers and mirror and a couch. Hopefully optimistic that both will be picked up tomorrow.

Kathy, lucky you, I also posted a large dresser on Marketplace, no results and price was low. I'm calling got junk, they have a job but not in my zip....have mattresses, couch, dresser and odds and ends.

Try Freecycle to get rid of furniture. I got my living room furniture that way. I saw a post, liked the pictures, and hired a moving company to pick up and deliver.

In the DC Metro area, Freecycle is definitely a great way to give things away. And, there are many here who actually pick up Freecycle furniture and clothing to support refugees who are just arriving in country, or formerly homeless folks who are being resettled after recovery. And, of course, folks like Honny, who have to start over after a break up or a fire or flood.

It was a good day, for vision. The latest trial contact lenses are better than the previous ones, and in a few weeks I will try an updated version. Eventually, I will make it back into full-time contact lens world. I recently purchased a tool that removes the contacts for me (so that there will be no more weekend trips to urgent care where someone reaches into my eyes and extracts the lenses). I would have invented this thing, based upon my own recent experiences! However, someone else created it first. In addition, I got two pairs of eyeglasses for the price I used to pay for one pair. Such a deal.

Sounds like everyone had a good holiday! I spent it with two of my daughters in Austin. Three glorious days of good food, great company and lots of wonderful memories.
What kind of gadget is this?

I have had many soft contact lenses stuck in my eyes during allergy season. Luckily, I was able to flood my eyes with solution to remove them.

For reasons I don't remember, years ago I moved away from Freecycle and joined a Yahoo group that had the same philosophy. Both gave away and picked up many things. However, this most recent purging I discovered it was hard to upload photos to the site, so the Free section of Craigslist has become my preferred method.

The head cold I picked up in California was in full throttle last night. I slept (very poorly) on the couch with my head propped up on the armrest. Consequently, I've been moving slowly all day today. I found a bottle of mucus relief pills in the medicine closet and will remember to take one when I go to bed tonight.

This is about one inch long, about as big around as a cribbage peg, and with a 1/8 inch suction cup as its head. It has its own, clear case. During the first experience, the tool worked well to pull the lenses to the outer corner of my eyes after I added lots of lens-friendly drops and lightly massaged each eye. The tool was not strong enough to suction the lenses from utterly dry eyeballs. This might not be the best approach with or without dry eyes? I will learn more as time passes and I try different types of lenses. My fingers swept the disposable lenses out of my eyes, and the lenses landed on the surface beneath my head. Mind you, these are disposable lenses and I do not give a fig where they land! I just want them out when my eyeballs say it's time for them to go! grinning smiley

This is more information than you asked for, but it might help you to determine whether it is worth a try for you, or not. For example, if you did not have enough solution, could you just wet the tip of the device and have success? (I do not know if this would work.)

The little tool cost less than $8 online. YMMV.

That sounds torturous. So far, the solution method works for me, and I never run out.

Today is homework. After this class, which ends in two weeks, one more to go.

Have you ever been to the Green Mesquite? Best BBQ in Austin, IMO. Try the smoked wings next time you go. My stepdaughter lives there and my sister has a house in Cedar Park. I love Austin!

I"m spending the day working on spreadsheets and mileage. yay. I'll put some navy bean soup in the crock pot to cook and make cornbread later tonight.
Writing reports, making pot roast in the slow cooker, laundry, being a bit lazy before the EOQ rush which, for me, will start bright and early tomorrow.

Work. Apply for assignments for 2020. The nearby EOQ projects were taken, so I just decided to plan for 2 or 3 days of work next month. There was time for overdue mani-pedi, but it was snowing outside and I was hunkered down in warm layers and surrounded by tasks and projects. Nails will wait.

I got my final submitted yesterday. I have some minor tasks to close out the term and that's it until the next one.

I broke my martini glass. I went to make a dirty martini to celebrate submitting my final. When I picked up the vermouth, it hit the glass and shattered it. I'm headed to GW tomorrow.

Taking another car full of things to our new condo, then coming home to quarterback several people coming to buy unneeded furniture I listed for sale on social media. Tonight Hubby and I will go to mass and out to a nice dinner. We will come home and celebrate new year's in the time zone of whatever area is convenient to us, then be in bed by 'our' midnight.

Work. Sort stuff. Clean the car.
Watch old Brit flick. I had never heard of it until today. Hmmmm...
Trying (again) to schedule a visit with mil.

Happy Whatever you do for the entire year! grinning smiley

I tried Freecycle the pits, now they have my email. They said their giving my request to another (who charges), and I'm getting emails from every company that charges for removal.

Mu husband took me to lunch today...and we had the leftovers for dinner. We've done some reading, relaxing, played dominoes and upwords...and now we're watching TV with adult beverages.
Happy New Year's everyone!
