What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Trying to decide what to make for dinner. I feel like I'm in a cooking rut.

Come wit me, kid. We goin' south of the border 'n tryin' somethin' new. Yu'll wate fer ma' contax or glassez, whatevr fitz more...

If that did not inspire you or at least scare you enough to try Granny's raccoon especiality or something equally toothsome from the Beverly Hillbillies lawn to table menu, nothing will. But I tried to jolt you out of your food rut.

Seriously. Today is the big day. Will any of the contact lens options work well? Must I order new eyeglasses? (Must make all options equally okay, if I want to see anything...)

Thanks for the laugh. Since I don't cook with meat I'll pass on your kind offer of raccoon, but I'd definitely take black eyed peas or greens :-)

Good luck making your lenses decision. I wore contacts for 30 years, then they became more trouble than they were worth and I went back to glasses. If I ever win the lottery I may look into Lasik.

I find in this cooler weather, a nice homemade pot of soup with french bread fills my needs. I enjoy either lentil or barley with veggie's, adding a small red potato, then blending for thickness. I also made tortilla soup, healthy, no meat and easy to make, one hour...does that help? Better than raccoon, no/

Live consciously....
I feel like we've been having a LOT of soup lately. The Asian market had eggplant on sale, so I decided on an eggplant/sweet potato curry served on top of brown rice with a side of slaw.

I went off plan and had a salad with ingredients that I like. i estimate that this was 92% compliant and that I am 100% satisfied.

For the first time in OVER 30 years, I will NOT be cooking a turkey!! My niece and her hubby live nearby, and HER parents (my brother and sister in law) have come down here to the South for the winter from Mass, and my niece invited myself and hubby over to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. I WILL be making desserts: pumpkin pie, lemon meringue pie, and peach cobbler with fresh peaches kept in the freezer for cobblers in the winter! So this will be very nice indeed!!

Also, had my mammo and visit with surgeon this week. Mammo looks good, and breast/chest exam with surgeon today also looked good! SOOOooooo, 5 years, 10 months and 27 days after my mastectomy, I have been officially released from ALL my cancer doctors (onco released me in June)!! I am OUT of the nest....no longer a fledgling!!
guysmom, that is awesome news!!!!! I am so very happy for you!!!!!

Early work began late, and we filled in for people who had to go their typical jobs. I rounded up two more garments that are too big now and will donate them today or tomorrow. Despite being an estimated overall 95% compliant, I am doing well with this odd and rigid diet. I am beginning to wonder whether 100% compliance or else is the opening gambit and a high percentage of compliance is effective...

I volunteered at the bimonthly fish fry at my church making desserts. When we were done, I was about to leave. One of the Church Ladies, who had just arrived, pulled me back into the room to get the dirt on New Guy. They wanted to know everything.

Work. Clean car. Look for holiday cards for the hubby customers. We still have not found anything appropriate!
Resume the sorting project (deal with the last of the stuff that we brought from storage).

I like using a rotisserie chicken for a couple of days:

Day 1 is gourmet salads with mixed greens, rotisserie chicken, bacon, feta, snd whatever your individual salad ingredient preferences are. Hubby likes mushrooms, tomstoes, radish, green or blsck olives, green or red onion on his plate. I like cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, kalsmata, red or green onion.

Day 2 is sometimes homemade macaroni and cheese, baked in the oven with chopped rotisserie chicken layered in the bottom, panko bread crumbs and parm across the top (and crumbled bacon for the last 5 minutes). Or you could do chicken, bacon, avocado and lettuce sandwiches (with your favorite cheese (I like h0av0arti or white cheddar) or pulled chicken barbecue sandwiches.

Day 3 I have the rest of that chicken in the crockpot and I make soup.

Packing for my trip. Oldest stepkids (adults) will be here watching our house while we are gone.
Honny, I don't blame you for taking it slow with New Guy. But DO enjoy every moment you can with him at this time!

Anyhow, hubby is sitting in front of the TV as the Penn State/Ohio State game begins. He's a HUGE PSU fan, and he's worried that OSU will clobber them. He keeps saying, "Penn State has no pass defense!!!" So the next few hours should be interesting here around the house, haha!!

ETA: And my hubby talks AT the TV for the entire game!!! haha!!

I met this lady yesterday. She was very beautiful. Her hair was nicely done and her makeup was perfect. She was maybe in her 70s. She told me that her husband of almost 50 years left her for sister. I was heartbroken for her. Talk about a tailspin!

Oh!!! And the most important thing I did today? Managed to find out that a country meat market about 18 miles away has turkey giblets and necks in stock FRESH ones!. I will go there tomorrow to get some to make my all-time favorite turkey gravy base! It took three weeks of sporadic asking at various venues before someone (a true, "good ole boy" at my wine and beer shop) said, "Oh, you need Borman's Old Fashioned Meat Market in Clarksville."

I have confirmed that they got their delivery of what I need today, and I will head for Clarksville tomorrow. When you do not roast a whole turkey, these essentials are rare finds in an urban area.

I am packing for Cancun. Have to get up at 3 am to catch the 7 am flight. Mexico, here I come!!
wales, it takes me two or three tries to make perfect gravy. I make it so that it sticks to the spoon. I use the giblets and necks to make the stock.

After I made perfect gravy, my youngest stepson would make a gravy sandwich.

The early job is actually sort of early today! Huh.

Yesterday, I unexpectedly found tubit. Some people might appreciate the offerings on this free streaming service. So far I have watched one movie, one episode of 'At Last the1948 Show', and a short piece called 'Thorns'. These fit neatly between back-intensive work sessions around the house I wonder what I will watch today when i am not sorting and schlepping...

Honney,
Yup, giblets and neck, plus onion, celery and 1 carrot, to make the stock; de-fatted drippings from the roasting pan to be added; finally, thickened with a mix of milk and corn starch. A little poultry seasoning and salt. . This method works in one try as long as the thickening mix is free of lumps. That is much easier with corn starch than with flour. And, yes, I add back in the chopped liver, heart and gizzard. The neck meat goes into the soup, made with the stock from the turkey bones.

Today I am doing nothing!

Yesterday was awful. I had only two shops to do, both in the city. The exit to the shops was closed due to construction and I didn't know this until I saw the signs. Had to do a confusing detour. Finally arrived at the hotel (it was a breakfast shop at their restaurant). Parking was a nightmare. The shop instructions state that one person must order the buffet and another must order off the menu. Sounds easy, but I was told that there is no menu at breakfast; they only offer the buffet. To make matters worse, this was my very first assignment with Coyle and I had no idea what to do! I went ahead and ordered two buffets. Food was mediocre and the service sucked.

I head to Sam's Club for the next shop. The exit for Sam's Club is also closed!! Traffic was heavy and it started raining (35 degrees here too, so cold). I finally arrive at Sam's Club and since it's the Saturday before Thanksgiving the place is packed! I had to park far away and walk in the rain. The job was to straighten up a display of doggie sweaters and vests. There is no display! I looked everywhere. I finally asked an associate. She said there were a few boxes in an aisle. I find the boxes and there are doggie vests and sweaters strewn everywhere! Half of them were pulled out of the packaging which made them difficult to straighten. I spent 20 minutes straightening this mess for a measly $15 fee.

I leave Sam's Club and forgot that I had to take a photo of the exterior, so back to Sam's I go. By this time it's raining so hard I could barely see the road. I finally make it home and the Coyle report took me 2 hours to write...the fee was $15 plus reimbursement for the food. The doggie vest report only took 30 minutes but neither assignment was worth the aggravation.

So today....I am sitting on my butt watching Netflix and not doing a damn thing!
It's a beautiful sunny day today. Since our house is back on the market we're having another open house today...packing up the cat with lunch, reading material, cat, water, and litter box. Will go to a park and let the cat out to explore in the car and pass the time reading.

Driving into the country to go to that old fashioned butcher shop. Then, home to start the base for my turkey gravy. If the price is right, I might get fresh turkey thighs, never frozen, at that market. It has turned sunny and breezy and this should be a pretty drive through fall colors.

Hello from Cancun.. Sandy beaches, endless buffets and the blue waters. Drinking my matcha and then reservations at the Italian restaurant in an hour.
