What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I can only WISH it was cold here! Instead, the heat and humidity make me think of a rain forest jungle. The outside of the windows even temporarily fogged up because of the inside/outside difference in temperatures.

Time to remind all of our forum colleagues, friends and family: an annual derm exam is right up there with other regular screenings. I lost a much-loved shopper buddy to skin cancer about 6 years ago. She was only in her forties.

I go yearly for skin check, so far so good, but I always have a mole or something that needs popping. Today have another stupid thing to do. Last night I was tired of sitting home and went to a restaurant happy hour all day Sunday which I shop, just for a relaxing B-day dessert (free). My shop always brings me there during the week, and the Bartender is the best. Now there was a woman who wouldn't stop talking to a couple at the end of the bar. I told her I get a B-day dessert and ordered an appetizer and a drink. Never came over, never cleared dished, yelled what dessert do you want, and I ordered a flourless chocolate torte. Bill comes and I'm charged 6.99 for dessert. I tell her and she adjusts bill (no problem). Today checking account, yes I got charged for full dessert....other than that, same ole same ole....still looking for restaurant for Chicago.

That's amazing that your fellows have such great longevity!

The thing is about that goosedown pillow is that I have one. It is my favorite pillow and goes everywhere with me when I am out of town. I tried the My Pillow...meh. I love my goosedown one, it's the best ever. I sleep so well with that thing...I have a Temperpedic mattress, which helps immensely, but a great pillow is very important (heed this, you humans who have trouble sleeping).
Happy birthday, Irene! Not sure what day it is but hope it's wonderful smiling smiley

Thanks Jas...Aug. 30th, I'm leaving the 27th....another year older and wiser, maybe...smiling smiley and to think I used to be the baby in the family.

@HonnyBrown That is awesome! I'm sure you'll get it an what a great thing to do what you're actually studying for!

@walesmaven I am sorry to hear that! I urge everyone to get their cancer screenings. Mostly what you hear about is breast cancer and people don't check anything else. Both my sister and mother died a year apart from uterine cancer and NOBODY talks about that. I bug the heck out of everyone to get their checks.

As the day progressed, the temperature rose to the usual August heat wave. For whatever reason, at 2 AM it was cold instead of cool. That was a treat!

So I figured out that in September, I can afford to wait for bonuses and, especially, EOM bonuses. This does not mean that I will not complete other assignments. It means that I do not need to do them. Somehow, in spite of myself, I reached the point of being able to wait for bonuses. In an unrelated mess I mean matter, I thought I was supposed to participate in something today. oops. Wrong calendar page, wrong everything. I do not have to participate in that until next month. But it is a good thing that I double checked. In addition to getting the date right, I will not schedule shops for that date unless I can be somewhere in between assignments where I can do the dratted unprintable mandatory bleh. It is irksome that in my wonderful free-to-wait-for bonuses month which also includes the beginning of my beloved Autumn, there is this blotch. But the good always outweighs the bad, so I will just stop complaining and chortling and find something else to do. grinning smiley

The summer vegetable plants are almost done. There are three or four tomatoes left on the plant. I picked and used the last of the peppers. The basil is nice and full. The peas died. The kale/arugula/spinach plant died. The patchouli and lavender are clinging to dear life.

That's a lot of plants.

It's time to plant pumpkins, acorn squash, more kale, broccoli, snow peas and radishes. Fall is a great time to grow lettuce as the heat won't stress it so much.

A pound of bacon wouldn't make it a week in my house. I too cook 1 lb. at a time, but I just put it in a ziplock in the frig and it gets gone fast.

I had a nice long chat with a friend, then did a day care center shop right down the road from her house. Tonight a walk with Hubby after dinner.

I bought bacon for a potluck dish. The remainder went bad. The next pound, I put in freezer bags two at a time and froze them.

I bleached my roots today. I pulled it through to my ends to tone the color. It looks amazing.

I had a consumer retrieval today, nice to get paid to drive.

So yesterday the dermatologist took two biopsies of some small growths that she wasn't worried about, but just to be safe they are going to the lab. She said she doesn't think the lump is a lipoma, but because of where it is (under the subcutaneous tissues), it's not in her wheelhouse anyway, so my GP referred me to the wrong specialty. She wouldn't tell me what she thought it was and said she was going to refer me to someone else, but she didn't say who, what, when, or where. She said her office would be in touch soon. I am mystified.
JAS, my fingers will be crossed for you and wales!

Fun day here. I found the cutest slightly distressed denim jacket that is perfect for my snappy red dress which I will only wear at home because... you know... it's red... A few weeks ago, I had located a sweet jacket for twice the price at a boutique. There were no jeans jackets at thrift stores, and I was thrilled to find this one for half of the boutique price which is about twice the thrift price. On average, somehow, this is perfect! This happened at Wal-Mart, where I also found good-enough shoes and $3 clearance slip-ons to wear to/from the shower. One of the perks of the early job is finishing work early and arrving so early at Wal-Mart that the store is practically free of customers and it is easy to shop there. I realize that this is tmi, but I just wanted to chortle...

And, back to you, ladies and gentlemen. Good luck with everything to everyone who needs that.

Meeting a shopper buddy for lunch at a favorite Tex-Mex place that is 1 block from one of my parking shops. I think it is my turn to buy lunch.

Hubby and I are taking baby steps towards getting our house ready to sell in preparation for downsizing. Today I have a contractor coming for an estimate for updating two bathrooms/some parquet floor in the foyer. After dinner a realtor is stopping by to give us her opinion on exactly what we would need to do to get things market ready.

Kathy, good luck, out here the market is very slow with interest rates going down in Sept., and the fall of the stock market, everyone is frightened about having a recession, and staying put. Spoke with a very savvy Broker/Owner.

So I rummaged around on Zillow and found an old, familiar house. Sort of. I remembered the original, lovely context and neighborhood. I recognized the excellent-condition red brick place where the retired minister lived and had interesting conversations with my relative, whose religion was somewhat mysterious. I was shocked to see just the basics on once-thriving land. There was nothing discernible of change and substitution. There was only 'Mmm?' Once upon a time, this was a year-round profusion of color and edibles. Now, it is a wasteland. Very sad. Now, you understand that I have not said 'They should have hired a gardener' or 'They should have grown up into the property instead of reverting it to their personal and public sandbox.' (It is a large corner lot.) Oh, no. I did not even imply that. Much. winking smiley

Seriously. I wondered if xeriscape just sort of xeri-escaped them and they could not accomplish a conversion to cactus garden or some other finished look.

I thought of this while reading Kathy's post. For this property, xeriscape would be appropriate and increase the value greatly. It would give the noticeable place a settled look and set the tone for several blocks. It would not burden the next owner with an expensive removal or ongoing water bill. It would not cause the property to blow dirt at the neighbors during the inevitable storm season. But the new owners have done what they have done.

Thanks. We're in no particular hurry, so if the market tanks we'll just stay where we are until it improves again...and upgrade things more leisurely.

shop-et-al, I found a red designer dress at the thrift store for $7. It goes perfectly with my platinum, so I wear it frequently!
