What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I can see you taking your daughter out to some nice restaurant shops in Chicago, Irene. Plenty of lifestyle shopping to be had in that city. I LOVED it both times I visited there. Once I took my mom on a trip there, we walked all over down by the lake, shopping, eating, sightseeing! Second time I went with my husband and we had a blast, jazz and blues clubs, great food!

I'm grabbing up all of those 5 minute presto shops I can. They were mostly taken by the time I got the notification, but they have gradually been dropping off as well so I log in every so often and take whatever is open. I'd be happy to drive around the city all day doing those. I hope by tomorrow I have at least 3-4 more.

Also been considering what I spend my shopping time on. It occurred to me this morning that my time is probably better spent doing apartments as I have bought video equipment but as yet haven't been video shopping. I really need a lot more apartment experience so I know almost instinctively what to focus on. When I consider a gas station at $22 for about an hour, and an apartment shop for $40 for about 2 hours only one of which is spent driving and touring, the apartment seems like the better choice, especially if it gets me closer to my video goals. I need more practice with narratives as well. I'm a good writer but it doesn't come naturally, I really have to focus and concentrate.

So all of that is what I've been up to so far today, thinking and playing a computer game. Later we will go visit the grandson and maybe have dinner out.

Yesterday I went to a nursery that I shopped last month. The goal was to get two small houseplants. I found the exact ones that I wanted: a spider plant and a wandering jew.

Then I saw the 50% off section. I exchanged the spider plant, and picked up a string of pearls succulent.

Honny, spider plants are notoriously easy to propagate. When you see a large one with a lot of little hanging "spiders", just pinch one off, take it home and put it in a pot and water it well. It will grow into a large and fabulous spider plant.

Woo hoo, I just picked up two more of those presto shops. The first one I did took 15 minutes tops, counting the report.

I envy you, Honny....sounds like you have a real "green" thumb!! Me??? Well, I've never been real good with plants. The best I've done is that I have 2 healthy indoor green plants in my home....everything else I've tried just wilts away and dies!! I like reading about your gardening adventures!

ALERT...the food posts are now replaced by plant posts, love it, and by the bye, my .99 store plants are blooming/thriving and gorgeous adding color to an otherwise drab patio....

I turned my flower bed by the garage into a vegetable garden. My raspberry bush comes back every year, my husband properly trellised it so it's growing up and out, and in the bed along with it I have green onions, two roma tomato plants (one has flowers on it), some lettuce, parsley, basil, dill, and cilantro. That should keep me for the summer! I wish I had room for oregano. I might have to grow some in a pot on the front porch.

I like to tuck basil, dill and cilantro into my pots containing summer annuals. They add texture and foliage and grow just as well. That also frees up space for other things.

Too hot to play in the yard here today! I'm reupholstering a set of Scandinavian design dining room chairs. Gorgeous wood frames and they have survived long enough to have the upholstery completely wear through on the front edge (30 years?). A little stain is also blending back in the minor nicks & dings to the legs over the years.

More than two decades ago my boys brought home spider plant babies from day camp. I have had spider plants ever since!

My neighbor has a plot right by the sidewalk with vegetables and herbs along with some annuals. As long as the deer don't come by and munch on them he should get a lot of produce.

I would love to come home and find the deer in my yard eating my produce. I saw a fawn yesterday on a rural country road on my way home on a route. Cute thing, no mama in eyesight. Hope she wasn't far away or hit by a car. I have seen several dead does on the highway lately.

I had a shop at a Dairy and Pig farm in Indiana. We drove up early since it was a 2 hour drive. It was a great experience. Got a nice wedge of Havarti cheese from their cafe. It was amazing to see 4800 cows being milked on a carousel like thing. We saw a cow giving birth. Well, technically it was only me who saw it since my wimpy husband stood outside the birthing barn. We saw a sonogram too at the pig farm. Came back home at 6. A Saturday well spent!

And you explained why the poor plant was in the 50% off section. People pinched it to near death.

I have very good light throughout the day. That makes all the difference.

Posting three new ads for the in-law suite that I want to rent. With a fireplace, full kitchen private yard, bed, bath and all furnished, it usually rents quickly. Now that I have better pictures for the ads I hope to have no vacancy when the current housemate departs in late June.

We went to church and Sunday School this morning. At Sunday School Lannie was honored. A lady in the class has been making welcome home quits for the Vetman VA which Lannie is one. The quit is red , blue and white of couse. Then we went for a drive , I stop at two places to do a shop. Then we went to dinner. A very nice day. I hope all you men on here had a wonderful Father's Day if you are ne.

I check CL about 4 times a day. Full of people wanting $800 a month room only. I found another site where a lot are looking for more like the full suite that I have. But, I still list on CL, because, historically, that has been a reliable source.

It's a decent deal for the D.C. area, too. My sister owned a 3 bedroom townhouse in MD near D.C. that was nice, but here in the midwest it would have gone for about 175k back in 2005 when she put it on the market. She sold it for $380. I know that rent prices must be high in that area as well. It's just one of those areas, like Austin TX and some others, that never really feel the effect of any housing market shocks.

honny/Wales....we get 800.00 for a room and bath, no garage here in town. Have a community college and housing is paid for, I got 1,000 for a small room, bath + garage.....he bought which is why I'm moving, it's time.
I'd call the college near you, but personally, I wouldn't go on Craig's list, hear too many negative's, must be smart.
I was lucky he was recommended to me needing a temporary room just to sleep while getting a divorce. Surprised to hear CL is reliable, this was my first time renting and being we knew same people, it worked.

I rent a room in CO, north of Denver. Rooms go for $600+ in this area. I rent mine for $500 because I have 4 kids, I babysit sometimes, and I tutor. Kids run amok in this household. However, when I have a vacancy, I have over 20 people who look at the place within a week or ten days.

Just interesting to see the prices in different parts of the country.....

It is not just a room. It is 670 sq ft with full private bath, bedroom, sitting room with fireplace, full kitchen, level walkout to private patio and yard, backing to forested parkland, all utilities plus assign parking at the front foor. Shared full laundry. ALL linens, kitchen gear,, flat screen TV, real stove with oven, full size fridge-freezer, super high speed FIOS Internet. Just a furnished bedroom and shared bath in this area start at $750; $850-900 for one with private bath. Most here have no parking except, perhaps, street parking.

Try and get Appt. with my Dr. for a referral to another eye Dr., that I hear is the absolute best and can help my eye problems. I'll have to go in for him to see me. Waiting again for painter, am I the only reliable person on earth, everyone flakes. Then renter asks me to stay home at 10:30 to sign for a package for him. I told him to take care of it, I have my own s___ to do.....sorry, was woken up at 6:30, not happy.

Laying out the schedule for my 13 remaining parking shops so that I can make good use of those to anchor what I hope will be EOQ bonus shops that be combined with them

But, since all but one of the parking shops can be done on any weekday that I like, all could be rearranged in a delicate dance to best accommodate almost bonus opportunities in DC or in MD burbs near me.
