I volunteered at the food bank this morning.

We got the car out of the shop and our taking a little drive to make sure everything is o. On the way we are going to make two stops , so I can do two little quuick shops

My teenage garden helper was here for a while this morning. He and one housemate and I spent about 2 hours weeding and planting and watering in the small front garden and then he built a small path through part of it with some red 12 x 12 pacers that I had. It is actually starting to look "intentional" after a much needed reorganization.

I also have some beef chuck in the slow cooker making a couple of meals for later this week. The rest will be frozen in 2-meals per package amounts for future meals.

Also took a nap just because I could. Pride parade today and huge DC Pride festival tomorrow mean street closings and traffic will prevent and city center shop this weekend. I will have to make up the time over the coming 2 weeks. Just part of the price of living near the demonstration, parade and festival capital of North America, lol. (Not to mention the motorcade capital !! You never get early notice of those events, which can happen several times per day.)

I have a Garden Tower, as I rent an apartment and there is no "ground" to plant in. I love this thing, I got it last year about 50% of the plants came back this year. I got some of those wildflower balls for $1.00 at the end of the summer and planted them in the empty spots to see what would happen and now I have some lettuces, herbs, peppers, and various wildflowers that looked like they popped up overnight. I can't wait to get into a place where I can have a proper garden.

Met my buddies at Starbucks and some I haven't seen were there, so talked and caught up for 2 hours, nice.
Then return at Kohl's and did my Whole Foods (same mall), spent too much but love their coffee and wild fish, so you only live once. While there, a woman asked me a question and she lives in San Francisco in my old neighborhood, we talked about the city and our high schools, so she found out my age, and said, I wouldn't have believed it, Have you had work, no, she gave me the nicest compliment saying I look 30 years younger, glad I put makeup on today (if she only knew). Got a manicure, came home, did report and waiting for Broker to see what place is worth. Plants on front patio look amazing, all colors and blooming up a storm. Glad I planted when I did...bought plants and soil and pots at .99 store all for under 10.00....last years rose bush back and red roses in bloom. Will be in 90's next week. Happy not to work, city is having their gay parade tomorrow, preparing today, streets closed and all that.

So now it is Sunday. The early job was so late that the whole day practically slid into another time zone. The good thing is, everything else could be whacked from the schedule or performed later. The better thing is, I tried on smaller pants and they fit. Go me. The best thing is, I have nearly completed all extra work for this month. Aaaaahhhhhhh..... my porch needs me. Chiefly, it needs me to clean the bird turd off of it. Love the birds anyway.

Went to church , then to Tace Bell for lunch. Then I did a quick shop. Then I watch my OSU Cowboys lose the baseball to TexasTech.

Counting down the days...

Started a new-to-me novel. It's a keen look at odd pursuits, inane values, and probable vapid outcome for the near future. Makes me feel downright good about shedding what "they" proclaim is supposed to matter to me and, instead, just being me.

I was out picking up Lime scooters tonight with my adult son. We were having a great time working together, making great progress, when some idiot set off a small explosion on the tracks. I called it in to the cops, but it scared the crap out of me.

Strom yes I think so too. OUr Cowboys did have a good season and maybe next year we will go all the way. At least our boys get furhter then the OU Sonners

Looking for a handy man to do some paint touch up. taking care of house stuff, Veterans truck coming Thursday, so getting stuff ready. Errands this morning, library and home.

I'm looking at gray shades for the remainder of my living room.

I went to a club meeting tonight. Tomorrow I will go with hubby as he goes to the VA

This week, I pick up the touch-up paint. Sometime next week I will touch up the interior paint. (Nothing fancy. Just clean a few spots, paint them, and watch the paint dry.)

Going into a different town about 9 miles from me, newer mall, Kohl's, new front mat and The Habit, home for more arranging.

I have chickens again. Should start laying in a couple of months. The chicken coop turned out great with a little TLC. Dogs are still getting used to them. My sis feeds them in the morning and I feed in the evening. The tomato plants are loaded. All is good.

I've always wanted a few chickens, but hubby is dead set against it....and he grew up on a farm!! We live in a semi-rural part of the county and have 3/4 acre of land that we're on, with woods beyond our fence. So we could have accommodated them. But maybe it's turned out for the best that we haven't....our next door neighbor had 2 roosters and about 4 hens over the past year that somehow disappeared....but we believe the hawks got them, or perhaps a coyote jumped the fence at night. So now, I'll pass on having them! But I hope you enjoy them and enjoy having fresh eggs!!

I did a route 50 miles away on Friday. Shortly after I got home, I noticed my FitBit was gone. I tried to track it using a bluetooth app, no luck. Turns out it was on my pantry floor all this time. No clue how it got there.

Ghost in the house....?

I have had several weird things happen in several houses....deck door open ("maybe it's the wind..." -but it was locked-); trap door to attic open ("maybe one of the kids did it...." they all denied it and couldn't sleep for several nights thinking someone got into our house); broken curtain rod ("maybe someone pulled the curtains open too hard...." unlikely, of course.); once I came home and my front door was wide open. I went straight to the neighbor's because he was a cop (and my HS boyfriend, incidentally) and he went in with me and the kids and radioed my husb to come home (also a cop). Maybe the kids left it open. Maybe I didn't pull it tight. But no other time has that happened...

And the best one: once we bought a house from my old history teacher. And his wife was my Sunday School teacher. They had 3 daughters and the youngest of the 3 was 2 years older than me. Then they had a son who was about 7 years younger than me. Apparently, when they sold their house, they neglected to tell their son. I woke up one night to see a guy standing in my house. I almost had a heart attack and then I realized it was "Jimmy," and Jimmy realized his parents' house had sold....

We did change the locks after that

One day I came home from work, and my garage door was wide open. That mistake only happened once.

I'm in the process of setting up a password manager on all of my electronic devices...two Windows-based and two Apple. I'm relatively technology savvy, but the project is challenging my knowledge.

Found out another book. This one, by Arthur W. Hunt, is called Surviving Technopia: Essays on Finding Balance in Our New Man-Made Environments.


Personally, tech reached my then-unidentified tipping point some time ago. No wonder I need the wide open spaces! No wonder I love the critters more than ever! It's all about balance, and this thread is all about balance, and this was the perfect place for a little blah-blah about balance.

After days and days of off and on rain I finally have a day dry enough to mow the knee high grass. I shall force myself to push the recalcitrant mower through it and then gasping for air I shall collapse with a giant glass of iced tea under the fan. Everything else is optional.

I have a massage appointment this afternoon. Other than that, gonna dash through the grocery store because they have Smithfield baby back ribs on sale for $2.69 a pound and I have a $5 off manufacturer's coupon, so I should be able to get a small rack of ribs for just a couple of dollars. Working the next 3 days...

Quick appointment with my neurologist this afternoon to go over the results of the brain MRI that was done last month. Hopefully, that benign meningioma in the front of my head is staying benign!! You know, for someone who since 2013 has gone through breast cancer (w/surgery, chemo & radiation), a herniated disc, a benign meningioma, heart arrhythmias and recent appendix surgery, I really do feel great and consider my health status as "very good"!! I'm so thankful for the good health I have!!

Thanks, Alieda. Yes, all went well. No changes in the meningioma over the past 2 years. We'll leave it alone for 2 more years.
