@ Lauraphx, the older I get...the more houses I live in throughout my life...the more picky I get.

I tend to look for a house that has ALL of my favorite features from previous houses....it just doesn't exist. Or it would be a million dollar home...
In order to get everything you want, one needs to build their own house, which we did years ago.

Live consciously....
Haha so true Jill and Irene! My goal is to make a decision on something this weekend.
Irene,

True....but it seems as if husb and I have a bit of wanderlust. The longest we stayed in one house was 8 years, and that wasn't really by choice.

I like moving. Well....not "THE MOVE," but the new, different house/neighborhood, etc
You all have reminded me that I still have to get rid of a house, in a manner of speaking. But first, I want to respond to two bits of the news. Should we all be concerned about the women who believe that their raging activism is the matriarchal future of the world? Do they not "get" that a male doctor was so moved by the tragedies of survivors that he has dedicated a unique career to helping them? What is between this determinedly endless raging and: doing the individual work? assimilating examples of males and females assisting others? contemplating that males, females, and others who are presently participating in excellent in leadership might stall out because of the endless raging by activists? At any time in their lives, did these women think? Or, have they raged their way into the present?

In other activism, some 100,000 WalMart cashiers will split a $65 million settlement. WalMart violated a state law by refusing to provide seating for on-duty cashiers, and now it must pay. These cashiers sued, following an established pattern and system, and won. I did not even know about their concerns until I looked at news updates today. Perhaps this will turn the tide for other people who would do more if permitted to utilize reasonable accommodations, such as seating. Has seating become reasonable?

So, Happy Saturday! Typical day: get up at 1-ish, do a few house tasks, do a little exercise, and go to work. Take nap. Go to work.

It's a very cool, (not cold) overcast day. I am thinking thrift store bargain hunt. I'm always looking for weird old stuff. It has to be pretty special for me to drag it home but occasionally I find something. My last find, some original dessert dishes, large salad bowl and a bunch of juice glasses, all in a cool crinkly green glass are our favorite daily use dishes. They are the perfect size for all kinds of things. I would like to expand the set. My best guess is that they were made in the 60's or maybe even the 50's so they are quite hard to find. I also like to look for old furniture that is solid wood and structurally in good shape but in bad enough shape cosmetically that I don't feel bad distressing and painting it. I like to give those things new life. I often come home without finding anything but it's always fun anyway.
Laundry and errands

Drove to see Youngest Son's at his college town. It was Homecoming weekend there, and I was looking for something specific at a craft show. Couldn't find it, but got a solid lead on someone who can make it.

Happy Sunday! The roads are closed due to weather, and we cannot do the morning job until... whenever. So, I did the daily house tasks, took a nap, did a little workout, and visited the internet. It is only 2:22 AM. Think I will go back to bed now.

Woke up to SNOW! It's cold and I am in my pj's at 9:00 AM....wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate. Not wanting to get dressed or do anything, but I have .... So Much.... to do....sigh
Happy day, it poured for a minute last night, and is gloomy with a prediction of rain.....we need it, so good news.
Today will cook, got my kitchen sink fixed Friday, saw the movie "A Star Is Born", cried like a baby, great music, very sad. Going to meet my friends at SB for our Sunday coffee, then more of the same. Looking forward to phone call from daughter to be updated about her relationship, which looks serious.

I'm sitting at Sonic waiting for a check back so I can leave. Then I'm doing some errands and then going home to make green chili burritos.
Chatted with Son and Grandson via FaceTime, then Hubby and I went to our church's fall festival. Did a volunteer shift, walked around, ate dinner, and came home.

Staying home. Playing computer games. Doing a few house tasks. Pondering the pros and cons of changing a few points in the legal code to suit myself. But wait. I would have to get elected to something first. And that would disrupt my at-home time. And I would have to look great all the time. That is time-consuming. sigh.

House hunting. Tomorrow, we see a new house. We have been living in a condo for almost 4 years and thinking about getting a town house. Single family homes are out since none of us want all the "work." Saw one on Thursday. I have been thinking so much about space Vs security. Condos give that sense of security and yes, I can get scared easily! Husband thinks we should get at least a townhouse to get away from all the condo rules and restrictions. Besides, the president of the building has been driving us nuts all these years. I am just torn between remodeling our current home vs buying a new house.
Sounds like a townhouse with a modern security system would suit your needs.

I'm in a Townhouse and we have rules. The difference for me is Homeowners takes care of all the outside stuff, painting, roof, etc.,having a pool, and I have a private 2 car garage, opposed to a condo where you park in the garage and schlep your groceries up. The principal is the same, and my Hmo's fee keeps going up yearly.....there is a cap on it.
But it is safe, we have security driving by every few hours. I've always felt safe wherever I've lived, it's really all about location, you can have bad neighbors anywhere, I'm lucky there.

Thanks! I have been in this country for about 11 years now out of which we spent 6 years in a rental and 4 years in our owned condo. We don't have much knowledge about townhouse living though our real agent (an 80 year old lady) is great!. She helped buy our first home and she is educating us a lot on security systems, Asso. fees and Insurance. DH has the same opinion as Irene. A sex offender moved downstairs in our condo building but the area that I live in is safe in general. I do feel that we would have more freedom in a townhouse.
There's a chance of frost tonight, so I'm bringing in all of the plants from the deck and the back porch. My counter is covered! Each plant gets a soak in soapy water to encourage any critters that might be living in the dirt to vacate before getting placed in its winter home.

I was growing some of the plants for my church's fall festival country store booth, which didn't happen this year. I have to find a new home for two spider plants (a hanging basket and a pot, both with multiple plantlets) and a philodendron that went crazy in the summer humidity. It's three feet long!

Found a house and put down the deposit today, guess I will be packing all weekend (after my shops, of course!). So excited though!!
KathyG, do you just put a plant in the sink with soapy water? How does that work? I would love new plants, but EVERY. SINGLE. TIME...in the last couple years, that I have gotten new potting soil, it's always had bugs in it and I end up just dumping it all out. I've tried putting a drop of soap in the soil, drying the top soil out, spraying peroxide...seems like the bugs don't leave
I mix a tablespoon of dish detergent per gallon of water in the sink, then soak each pot for 20 minutes. (Either one big pot at a time or multiple small ones.) That does the trick. One year a group of pill bugs (AKA roly polys) was living in a pot and I watched them abandon ship when things got really wet. It was grossly fascinating.

I bought this round of plants in the spring from the .99 store, and they are still blooming. Weather getting cool, so time to re-plant, never had bugs in soil. Went to Wal-mart and got some good bargains, hardly ever go there, but,
not as bad as I thought.

I had a low key day baking and playing computer games before I get busy tomorrow doing gas stations. I made a pineapple upside down cake and tried my hand at some sugar free banana bread. I had a whim to put some salted caramel chips in it and it's really quite delicious but it looks funny because they melted and left brown blotches all over.
