KathyG - so sorry for your loss. It is tragic when a young person leaves this world way too soon.
After work I went with my book club to a food truck festival. I had the loaded crab quesadillas. They weren't loaded with the black beans, salsa and sour cream as described, but great nonetheless. D had the fried shrimp with crab dip fries. M had a crab cake slider. I ate her fries. C had a caprese sub. M had a soft shell crab Po' Boy. B had smoked macaroni and cheese. R had a gyro. We left fat and happy!

Made appointment for Monday to have my carpets cleaned. Today will find me shopping for food (no job) except for Inn@Out after 2:00. Housework, wash and all those fun things. Weather reaching 90's, squeze in pool and hot tub if I get around to it.

Don't forget, Park City Brian, Chris Cooper, many have bit the dust.

This day reminds me of CoffeQueen, who started this thread with a mention of balancing our lives. As I complete more and more deferred projects, I want more and more to live as I did when I began in this industry. There were two jobs, a few shops, and me. That was good. Thanks to CoffeeQueen.

I just returned from Trader Joe's where I had a great lesson about foods from the Manager (who knows me), not as a shopper, as a customer and I'll pass on a bit (not all) I learned.
Canada is the only place that has no GMO in any of their foods. Soy is not good for you. Companies are still putting bad oils in food. Shrimp from Argentina is the best as their waters are pure, as are fish from Alaska and Northern waters. Do not buy any fish from Mexico. The Gulf waters had a bad oil spill a few years ago and their Lobster isn't half of what it used to be. Lesson over, enjoy your day.

Worked the regular job, squeezed in two shops, preparing for weekend shops, play with the dogs. and try to stay cool in this crazy Texas heat.
Does Trader Joe's get their shrimp from Argentina?
Good info, BTW, thanks.

@kimmie,
Yes, however they also get shrimp from other places, so check on package. I bought a bag (9.99) from Argentina and will have them tonight, they look gorgeous. The Manager (Trader Joe's) said they taste like Lobster...stayed tuned.

Happy Saturday! In my world, it is a perfect day. The weather is fine, I can take a breather between projects, and I have the exquisite torture of deciding which book to read next. Aaaaahhhhhh......

Today, another day in paradise, has me going to Marshall's for a return, possibly picking up a couple more dishes from Kate Spade, getting a bagel and lox at my favorite Noah's Deli and returning home to pool and straightening up for a professional carpet cleaning Monday. Saturday afternoon movie and whatever hits my fancy. Being alone has it's advantages....

Going to a graduation celebration for the daughter of some friends of ours, who graduated from high school. It's that time of year!
Mowing and trimming and weeding around trees while the laundry sways in the breeze. Hope it rains soon so I can come in the untidy house and tackle that.
Slowing getting my life back on track. Yesterday and today was about straightening the house. This morning I did yard work before it got too hot, then came inside and made some Instant Pot brown rice and pinto beans. (Two separate dishes, not mixed together. Until maybe later.)

OK. Thanks!

I think that the most recent frozen shrimp that I got at Aldi was also from Argentina.

Well, what a day! At about 3 pm, while we were at our friend's daughter's graduation reception, hubby casually mentions to me that he has been seeing black spots come in front of his right eye for the past 3 hours, since noon! And HE drove!! Anyhow, he has a history about 10 years ago of a benign, yet very dangerous brain tumor that required 8 1/2 hours of surgery...he did great, recovered fully, and all has been fine since then, but you just never know! PLUS....it could mean some sort of retinal issue, since it popped up out of nowhere just today! He had his regular eye exam just 3 months ago, and all was great! So I called his optometrist, who is at a local Walmart vision center, and he had left earlier in the day. They recommended calling another local Walmart vision center, which I did. They agreed to see hubby if I could get him there by 4:15....this was at 3:20, and we were about 35 miles away! So I said I'd get him there, and did so. Turns out that the spots are indeed just "floaters" that come about as we all age. The optometrist was wonderful, understanding, and did a thorough job of examining his eyes...they're still a bit dilated!! It was more of a concern to me than hubby, and more of a relief, too!! He's just relaxing and watching a baseball game on TV now.

@guysmom....I get (what we call) floaters, black spots almost looking like a small bug, many of them flying around. This in itself is not dangerous, my eyes are a mess, 5 drops daily (don't ask). I don't know what causes it, but it is annoying. Could just be eye strain.

Cleaning, dusting and scrubbing. Grocery shopping and cleaning all the produce before storing it in the refrigerator. The most enjoyable part of the day was going for a play date. DD had so much fun and it's always a pleasure meeting good friends over tea and snacks.
@guysmom..Glad everything turned out okay. My mom had the same problem at 50. The doctor gave the same diagnosis.

Irene, Yes, The optometrist explained that we all have this "jelly"-like liquid in our eyes, and as we get older, it shrinks! When it does, it can break loose in small tiny pieces, and what we see as black dots are the shadows caused by these dots as they "float" by the part of the eye responsible for what we see. I hope I explained that right. He said it was a good idea to get it checked, just to be sure there were no injuries to the retina or rest of the eyes. Yes, not dangerous, but get checked if any noticeable change in the type or amount of "floaters" that show up. If he suddenly sees a bunch of shapes that look like cobwebs, for instance, to get it checked again if it's before his regular checkup time. I suppose my biggest concern is that he doesn't try swatting these "small bugs" around while he's driving!! haha ... sounds comical, but I'm sure it can be distracting. But hopefully, they will slow down somewhat over time.
So today is for relatives, tomorrow is for merchandising, and Tuesday and beyond are for projects, fishing, and reading. All is well.

Guysmom,
You were right to insist on immediate attention to that. Sometimes a sudden dark spot, or complete darkness of one eye is a sign that there is insufficient blood supply, which mat signal a stroke. Fortunately, this was not the case, but when I had a recent urgent visit to my eye doc she explained this, just as a warning for me to be arae of what to do if it ever happened.

I go every three months for a expensive eye test, checking pressure and all. I have Glaucoma, and thank G__ an excellent Dr. that was with U.C.L.A's Jules Stein eye center before coming up here. What Guysmom and I are talking about are floaters, not complete black out, this is common as you age, and the Dr. cannot do anything about it, it just happens then goes away. I am super careful about my eyes, always taking my drops as prescribed, and very lucky to have a good prescription plan, as one drop costs 260.00, which I am able to get for 1/4 the cost. I learned about this Medicare plan through a job, with all my Dr's. being within 2 miles of my home.
TMI, sorry....something I know way too much about!

The timer on my dryer broke this morning, so I will be looking for a good appliance repairman. The one I'd used for years was semi-retired the last time I called, and indicated by his actions he wasn't interested in more work.

Yes, I recognized that she was talking about floaters. That's not the point of my post. I also have floaters and glaucoma. My doctor's warning, which I thought was worth passing along, was that the sudden appearance of dark spots calls for an immediate investigation, because some are not floaters but, instead, signs of a stroke! So Guysmom was doing the right thing when she insisted on a quick trip to see an eye spedialist. Better safe than sorry!
